Chapter 303: His Heart Sank
“Yup, it’s correct,” Qin Muye said after confirming that she’d input the correct ID numbers.
Her anxiety was slowly subsiding after listening to Tan Mo.
She took a deep breath and pressed Enter…
95 points.
“Well done!” Tan Mo exclaimed as she hugged Qin Muye. “This is way more than enough!”
Ming Yeqing also nodded excitedly.
Just like Tan Mo, he also had the urge to hug Qin Muye, but he couldn’t do so because Dong Hanbi was in the room with them.
His arms were already out, but he quickly pulled them back when he realized that.
Dong Hanbi raised an eyebrow and stared at Ming Yeqing. One could never tell if she was smiling or not.
When Ming Yeqing turned to sneak a look at the mother, she quickly averted her gaze as if she hadn’t noticed his actions just a moment ago.
“Really?” Qin Muye let out a sigh of relief after hearing Tan Mo’s compliment, but quickly became worried once again. “But, what if the average score is higher this year?”
“Even if the average is high, it won’t be as high as your score,” Tan Mo exclaimed as she pulled out a spreadsheet from her bag. “This is the minimum score requirement for Beijing University for the past few years. I also compared them with the difficulty of the high school leaving exams for each respective year.”
The spreadsheet that Tan Mo had prepared was easy to understand.
“So, the exam this year was about at the same level as two years ago,” Tan Mo explained as she pointed at the spreadsheet. “The minimum score requirement that year was 667, and it’ll be around that this year. I’d say it’ll only be two to three points different, so your 695 points are way over the minimum requirement. What are you even worried about? Girl, if you can’t get in with your score, then Beijing University might only have had a handful of freshmen this year.”
“So, I only have to apply for Beijing University right away now?” Qin Muye asked just to be on the safe side.
“Muye! Since when do you have so little confidence in yourself?” Tan Mo scolded her as she put her hands on her waist.
“I know you’re worried because you want to study in the same school as us,” Ming Yeqing smiled and comforted her. “But your score is definitely more than enough to make it into Beijing University. If Mo Mo is not enough to assure you of that, then I believe my words are more than enough, right?”
It was then that Dong Hanbi received a call from Qin Mufeng.
He was already back in the country and was completing his internship at Qinyang Company.
Since it was a weekday, Qin Mufeng had had to go to work, but he was equally concerned with Qin Muye’s results.
“Did Muye check her score yet?” Qin Mufeng asked.
Dong Hanbi saw that Qin Muye had given all her attention to Tan Mo and Ming Yeqing and decided to leave the living room to talk to her son. “Why don’t you call and ask her?”
“I’m worried that she’s stressed out now,” Qin Mufeng explained. “If she didn’t do well, then go somewhere she won’t hear you and tell me. I don’t want her to be too sad about it.”
“You don’t have to worry about that.” Dong Hanbi smiled. “She did very well. They just finished checking her score when you called. Muye got 695 points.”
“Oh? That’s insane!” Qin Mufeng exclaimed. “She doesn’t have to worry about getting into Beijing University then.”
“Yeah. But, you should call her and calm her down.” Dong Hanbi sighed. “Because she was so anxious about the score, she’s still suspicious about whether she can get into Beijing University or not. Both Tan Mo and Ming Yeqing have assured her that her score was more than enough. Oh! Do you know what Tan Mo did? She made a spreadsheet that compared the minimum score required to get into Beijing University for the past few years to the difficulty of the exams in the corresponding year. I wonder how she even found the time to do that? I was completely surprised when she took the spreadsheet out!”
The mother was happy that her daughter had such an amazing friend.
“But, still, I don’t think the two of them are enough to calm her down.” She sighed. “You should call her and congratulate her. She always listens to you. That should do the trick.”
“All right. I’ll call her right away,” replied Qin Mufeng.
After hanging up the call, Dong Hanbi returned to the living room as if nothing had happened.
Only a few seconds had passed when Qin Muye got a call from her brother.
“Brother!” She greeted him excitedly as soon as she answered the call.
She was excited that she had done so well on the exam and hadn’t let him down.
Yet, she would remain worried until the moment she received the acceptance letter from Beijing University.
Qin Mufeng pretended not to know her score and asked, “I believe the results are out now? What did you get?”
“695…” Even though she got a really good score, she was still a little embarrassed to tell her brother about it.
“That’s amazing!” Qin Mufeng complimented her proudly. “Looks like all your hard work has paid off! See? I told you you’re smart! There’s no idiots in our family!”
The family that Qin Mufeng mentioned was only limited to his own family and did not include his relatives, especially Qin Murong and her family.
“With your brains and hard work, you were bound to get a good score!” Qin Mufeng kept praising his little sister.
It was a little cringeworthy and Qin Muye felt a little awkward hearing it as it had been quite some time since her brother had last praised her. It just wasn’t like him.
“Do you think I’ll make it into Beijing University?” Qin Muye asked.
“Of course! If that score can’t land you an acceptance letter, then Dad and I are going to confront President Mu ourselves,” Qin Mufeng vowed. “Well, if you aren’t confident about it, then I’ll head to Beijing University today with Dad and ask President Mu to see if your score is enough or not. I’m sure President Mu has the experience to tell at one glance.”
“There’s no need for that!” Qin Muye laughed. “If you say I can make it, then I’ll make it!”
As Qin Muye talked to her brother over the phone, Tan Mo turned to look at Ming Yeqing and sighed.
She couldn’t believe after all they’d said to her, and after all the work she had gone through to prepare the spreadsheet, they still weren’t enough to convince Qin Muye while Qin Mufeng had done it in just a few sentences.
Ming Yeqing suddenly realized something, and his heart sank.
It looked like Muye listens to her brother a lot…
“I’ll go inform your grandparents now.” Dong Hanbi smiled. “Muye did really well this time.”
Dong Hanbi was proud since Qin Muye had definitely scored better than Qin Murong. There was also the fact that Qin Murong took the arts exam or else she would’ve never made it into Beijing University, while Qin Muye proved to the whole family that she was smart enough to get into the top university with just her own efforts.
There was no way Dong Hanbi could keep the results to herself. It was a chance for their family to shine, and she was eager to spread the news.
Not only would she inform Qin Muye’s grandparents about it, but also all of her friends.
In the past, people would only praise her son, but now it was her daughter’s time to step into the spotlight.
The mother had already started spreading the news through her phone.
As for Qin Muye, she finally calmed down after her older brother assured her that she’d done well. All she had to do now was submit her registration form and wait for the acceptance letter.
