Nevertheless, Tan Mo’s eyes were set on Wei Zhiqian’s face.
There were calmness and tenderness to his countenance as he closed his eyes.
It was only then that Tan Mo noticed his long lashes, which she hadn’t realized before.
Hit by an epiphany, she determined to observe him better next time.
“Are you done checking yet?” Wei Zhiqian asked.
“No!” Tan Mo exclaimed, lowering her head and lifting her shirt.
The heat outside was hot like summer’s blazing sun, so it was necessary to switch on the air conditioner.
For that reason, she dressed in a T-shirt or blouse.
The weather that day was exceedingly scorching. Thus, she wore a short-sleeve T-shirt.
After raising her garment, a red spot could be seen on the side of her waist.
“It’s a little reddish,” Tan Mo explained truthfully.
Wei Zhiqian opened his eyes at once and uttered, “Let me see.”
“Um. It’s fine.” Tan Mo was somewhat self-conscious about it.
“The spot is on your waist, right? It’s not somewhere private. Besides, didn’t you wear a crop top during the summer before? You didn’t mind letting others see your belly button previously. So what’s with the sudden change of heart?”
Tan Mo covered her red spot out of bashfulness.
She shook her head. “I’m really fine. It’s just a tiny red spot. The redness will fade in no time. And it doesn’t even hurt.”
If Wei Zhiqian didn’t prohibit her from abusing her healing magic, she would have used it to remove the red spot altogether.
“That’s cool. Let’s forget about it.” Wei Zhiqian had never planned to insist on seeing it anyway. It was just a mere psychological tactic.
He would first propose a condition that Tan Mo could not accept and then settle for the second-best option. That way, when he would suggest the second condition, she could not reject it again.
“Tell me, what made you think that you were dreaming earlier?” Wei Zhiqian fixed his gaze on Tan Mo with his eyes looking like a starry night sky. “Could it be that you’ve dreamed about me before?”
Tan Mo was taken aback upon hearing that.
‘Oh, snap! The cat is out of the bag!’
‘What do I do now?’
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Tan Mo buried her head against his chest promptly.
If she hid her face, Wei Zhiqian couldn’t see her guilty expression.
“I was sleepwalking!” Tan Mo replied in a soft voice.
Wei Zhiqian exclaimed, “Sleepwalking?”
Never in his wildest imaginations did he expect her to give him such an answer.
“Yup!” Tan Mo nodded.
“Are you suggesting that you saw me in your dream while you’re sleepwalking and decided to pinch my lips?” Her explanation rubbed him in the wrong way. He felt like giving her rears a good pinch.
What sort of nonsensical excuse was that? Did she even try?
Only a fool would buy her reason.
“Yeah!” Tan Mo bowed her head again.
Wei Zhiqian burst into laughter at that.
She had the audacity to reply yes twice.
Since she was hell-bent on the fact that she was sleepwalking, Wei Zhiqian did not press the matter further. With her still in his arms, he stood up and walked outside. “Let’s go. I’ll take you home.”
Wei Zhiqian came to a halt before the office door as it was closed.
Moreover, his hands were full from carrying her.
“Momo, open the door,” Wei Zhiqian stated.
Tan Mo was dumbfounded. She said, “You may put me down now.”
Wei Zhiqian’s mouth curved into a smile. “I’m dead set on doting on you today.”
He would not put her down no matter what.
Tan Mo was at her wit’s end as to what to do.
She was unsure if she had the wrong idea, but for some reason, Wei Zhiqian seemed to be a little different from usual.
“Do you remember when you were young, your feet would always be off the ground whenever I was around? It was like you were born for my embrace.” Wei Zhiqian reminisced as he stood before the door while carrying her in his arms.
As he recalled the good ol’ days, Tan Mo said, “I was very light at that time. But I’m an adult now. My weight has increased a lot since then.”
“Your weight has increased, you say?” Wei Zhiqian shook Tan Mo’s entire body twice while carrying her.
Startled, Tan Mo cried out, “Uncle!”
She immediately wrapped her arms around his neck tightly.
Wei Zhiqian teased, “You’re still too light. I can even give you an upsy-daisy.”
Fearing that he would do it, Tan Mo bawled, “Uncle, what’s up with you today?”
Why would a mature, big man like him suddenly fool around like a spoiled child?
Giving her no further explanation, Wei Zhiqian carried her steadily and ordered, “Open the door for me.”
“Uncle, I’m no longer a child. People will take me as a fool if they see me like this.” Tan Mo struggled to get loose.
Wei Zhiqian lowered his head and closed up to her without warning.
Tan Mo held her breath instinctively but forgot to evade his approach.
His face was getting closer progressively. He got so close to her that he came within a whisker of touching her nose. “Who dares to laugh at Momo?
“Even if someone saw us, they would only think that you were the one I favored.” Grinning from ear to ear, Wei Zhiqian asked, “Who dares to make fun of the person I pamper?”
Tan Mo was speechless.
Even though Wei Zhiqian said something similar like this before, those words he uttered earlier felt different.
Those domineering yet doting statements warmed Tan Mo’s heart.
According to the meaning of his words, Wei Zhiqian seemed to want everyone in the company to see it.
Then, by word of mouth, everyone would know how important Tan Mo was to Wei Zhiqian.
“Open the door, please,” Wei Zhiqian urged softly. “If you feel embarrassed when someone sees you, you can just hide your head in my embrace.”
Tan Mo thought, ‘He really went all out just to show everyone my place in his heart.’
Tan Mo could not refute after listening to Wei Zhiqian’s crisp and tender voice.
By reflex, she opened the door as instructed obediently.
Right when Wei Zhiqian carried Tan Mo out of his office, they bumped into Zhou Jingan.
Gaping at the unusual sight before his eyes, Zhou Jingan was rooted to the ground.
“Momo, what happened to you?” Zhou Jingan asked in curiosity. Why was Wei Zhiqian carrying Tan Mo in his arms like that?
“I sprained my ankle!” Tan Mo babbled a ridiculous excuse in a panic.
Zhou Jingan was flabbergasted upon hearing that.
How could she sprain her ankle in Wei Zhiqian’s office?
As spacious as his office might be, there was still a limit to it.
It was not as if Tan Mo ran a full marathon inside, so how did she injure herself?
Just then, Zhou Jingan turned to look at Wei Zhiqian, who had a gratifying smirk on his face.
“I’ve already sent you the documents,” Wei Zhiqian said.
“Got it.” Zhou Jingan nodded. “I’ll get everything done before I leave.”
Wei Zhiqian bowed his head. “Thanks for your hard work.”
He only procrastinated his task until this late as he did not work the day before. Therefore, he had to cram all his workload at the eleventh hour.
“It’s my pleasure.” Zhou Jingan had a smile on his face. “I’ve already worked on the documents you passed to me earlier. This is the last batch, so it won’t take too long.”
“Okay.” Wei Zhiqian bobbed his head and turned to leave while holding Tan Mo in his arms.
She would not even dare to look at Zhou Jingan at that time. She buried her face against Wei Zhiqian’s chest like he suggested earlier.
With that, Wei Zhiqian carried Tan Mo and strode into the elevator.
Tan Mo began to contemplate, thinking that there should be no one around at such a late hour like this.
After convincing herself of that thought, she felt like there was a weight off her shoulder.
If nothing else, being held in Wei Zhiqian’s arms like that was pretty comfortable.
When she was young, Tan Wenci and Tan Jinqi would often carry her in that manner.
Nonetheless, Tan Jinsheng and Tan Jinyi could not do that as neither of them was strong enough.
As she grew up, Tan Wenci could no longer carry her like that either.
