Chapter 444: Off to Jiaoyuan City
“Aren’t the history and Chinese majors sending their students over as well? Why don’t you just represent our major?” Professor Yue asked. “Do your best to get us some talented new blood. The future of the aerospace major now lies in your hands. Don’t take it the wrong way, okay? I have no choice but to force this on you because no one else from our major is going.”
“Why didn’t you send someone over as well?” Tan Mo asked.
“Unfortunately, we are very shorthanded. Yeqing has to go to Xiangnan City, and the rest are all juniors. Since we only have a handful of students every year, we can’t send people to every city,” Professor Yue explained. “Even though we only have these few people, we still have to compete with Hua University, right? That’s why we can only go to the most promising cities. It’s just impossible for us to be everywhere.”
Even though Beijing University was one of the best in the country, it still had its fair share of problems.
Some universities were worried that they might not have enough freshmen for the next year. Some were worried that they might not be able to recruit students with amazing potentials.
On the other hand, the problem that Beijing University faced was making sure the potential students it had marked didn’t get stolen by Hua University.
Because of the competitiveness between Beijing University and Hua University, it had to keep its standards high.
It had to ensure that all the high school seniors who had scored well in their graduation exams would apply to its university.
Of course, it would be impossible for one to win all.
Students who did extremely well in the exam had their own criteria as well, such as which university’s faculty was better in terms of the major that they had chosen.
Things like scholarships that the universities could offer and the cities they were in were important to these students as well.
“Okay.” Tan Mo nodded. “I’ll try my best.”
“Did Professor Gu and Tang ask you to help them as well?” Professor Yue asked with a smile.
The more Professor Yue had gotten closer to the other two professors, the more he knew how cunning they could be.
“They asked me to recruit as many students to the history and Chinese majors as well,” Tan Mo told the truth.
“Don’t worry. It won’t affect us that much,” Professor Yue said. He kept insisting on the word “us” in the hope that he could brainwash Tan Mo into thinking that she belonged to the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
Tan Mo couldn’t help but roast Professor Yue for calling the other two professors cunning all the time in her head as the aerospace engineering professor was already in the same league as them.
“They’re from the liberal arts majors and not science majors,” Professor Yue explained with a smile. “There’s not much competition between us. Our main problem is the mathematic major.”
Tan Mo took a deep breath when she realized the wild ambition that Professor Yue had.
“Are you thinking of persuading the students who chose the math major to join yours as well?” Tan Mo asked. “But, Professor Yao, the head of the math major is leading the team to Jiaoyuan City this time. He’s determined to recruit the top science scorer to his major.”
“So what?” Professor Yue scoffed. “It’s not like it’s a done deal. The student never said he wanted to be part of the math major. Since he’s also a science student, why can’t he choose our major as well?”
“Professor Yue, you are literally telling me to do this while Professor Yao is watching. I think you’ll have a better chance if you do this yourself.” Tan Mo sighed.
“I wish I could. There are other potential students as well. If I went and invited the top scorer from Jiaoyuan City, what would other students think?” Professor Yue asked. “It’s not like everyone is you where all the presidents from the top five universities in the country went and recruit you personally.”
“Why can Professor Yao go?” Chen Xiuze barged into the conversation and asked.
He had already completely given up on trying to date Tan Mo as he sort of understood Wei Zhiqian’s intention now.
With Wei Zhiqian close guarding Tan Mo, and the fact that she had no interest in dating him, Chen Xiuze knew that he had to give up, or else he would cause a scene.
“What makes you think Professor Yao and I are on the same standard?” Professor Yue scolded. “He’s the head of the mathematic major, but he’s not as important as those old professors in his major yet. Do you see any of those old professors going?”
What Professor Yue meant was that Professor Yao was more proficient in managing the major than doing research.
Being approved by Professor Yao and being approved by Professor Yue were two completely different things.
“All in all, Tan Mo, you don’t have to worry about a thing! If anything happens, you still have me to back you up,” Professor Yue assured. “Even if you really took the student that Professor Yao was eyeing, do you really think he can do anything to you? He knows that he cannot offend Professor Tang, Gu, and me. There’s also President Mu as well.”
It would be weird if Professor Yao didn’t know that Tan Mo was now basically the face of Beijing University. Her existence meant a lot to them.
Up until now, Tan Mo had shown talent and knowledge in ancient Chinese, history, and aerospace engineering.
Not one would be surprised if she actually had more hiding up her sleeves.
It had been quite some time since Professor Yue got acquainted with Tan Mo. Like the other two professors, he now knew a lot about her.
The most important thing about Tan Mo was that she hated troublesome work.
Unless it was absolutely necessary, she would never show what she was capable of.
Even if she did, no one would dare say that what she had shown was the best of her abilities.
“Fine…” Tan Mo agreed with a nod.
In the evening, Tan Mo got a message from Counselor Hong telling her the time of departure and reminding her to bring all her identifications.
The next morning, Tan Mo dragged a 20-inch suitcase and was ready to leave.
Since it was summer, all she brought was light clothing that wouldn’t take up a lot of space. A 20-inch suitcase was more than enough for three to five days of clothing.
Just as she was about to open the door, Lin Fuxi suddenly stopped her. “Tan Mo, wait up! I’m going with you.”
Tan Mo turned around and was surprised to see Lin Fuxi dragging her suitcase with her as well.
“Oh?” Tan Mo was surprised. “Are you part of the recruitment team as well?”
Tan Mo was shocked as she didn’t see Lin Fuxi packed her stuff the night before.
The truth was that Lin Fuxi had already packed beforehand and hid it from Tan Mo deliberately.
As for being part of the recruitment team, Lin Fuxi personally asked Counselor Hong to include her because she was from Jiaoyuan City.
To be precise, her hometown was actually the city south of Jiaoyuan City. She had only visited the latter a few times. Yet, Counselor Hong didn’t know about that.
Since Lin Fuxi had told Counselor Hong that she knew the city very well, the counselor thought about it and agreed to let her join them since having someone familiar with the city showing them around would be better.
The reason Lin Fuxi wanted to be a part of it was that it could gain her extra point in social involvement. Not only that, but she was also able to take the plane for free.
Being able to live a few days and have everything paid for by the university could save her a lot of money.
If she wanted to go back home, all she had to do was pay the bus fare.
When Lin Fuxi learned that Tan Mo was heading to Jiaoyuan City as well, she was scared that Tan Mo might ruin her plan, but she couldn’t tell Counselor Hong that she didn’t want her to be part of the team.
Tan Mo was an important figure in the university and had the favor of President Mu and a few important professors. There was no way the counselor would agree to Lin Fuxi’s request.
Lin Fuxi was even more anxious after that. It wouldn’t be hard for Tan Mo to ruin her plan.
That was why, as a cunning person, Lin Fuxi had hidden the fact that she was part of the team from everyone and packed when Jin Ruilin and Meng Yuxi were out.
