Chapter 475 - Investigate

Chapter 475: Investigate

It was indeed like the comment that called out those people who looked proper in real life, but they wouldn’t even hesitate to utter the nastiest things to another person on the Internet—stuff that only a boor would say.

Tan Mo felt her racing heartbeat as it pumped through her veins. She was burning with rage but had no way to extinguish it.

Her hand that was holding her cellphone was trembling.

Many bystanders were staring at her while pointing fingers at her while she strode toward her dormitory.

At that moment, she wished that she had clairaudience ability like Wei Zhiqian to listen to what they were talking about.

The girls would at least cover up their mouths as they spoke, but the boys would leer at her.

The way they ogled at her with their speculations was unpleasant to the core.

Throughout her entire lifetimes, Tan Mo had never once felt so much ill-intentions directed at her. Ignoring the crowd, she rushed toward her dormitory.

Right after she opened the door, her three other roommates could be seen inside.

Lin Fuxi had arrived two hours earlier than Tan Mo.

“Tan Mo!”

Jin Yuelin and Meng Yuxi exclaimed in unison.

“Are you alright?” Meng Yuxi questioned as she pulled Tan Mo’s hand in concern.

Tan Mo nodded. Jin Yuelin pulled the former’s chair out while Meng Yuxi pulled the person-in-question to her seat.

“I’ve already discussed with Yuxi,” Jin Yuelin informed her. “We’ll smoke out the one who posted this and put that person under the spotlight no matter what.”

“You said it!” Meng Yuxi chided. “Does that person have nothing better to do? Why would anyone post such an article to irritate people? Putting the truth aside, what does it have anything to do with that fellow? Even if it’s real, whoever we date with or whatever we do with our boyfriend is our business!”

“Plus, Tan Mo came back from the nearby residential area that morning,” Jin Yuelin recalled.

Tan Mo bowed her head. “It was my uncle who took me back here.”

Upon hearing that, Meng Yuxi chuckled. “Well, then. That’s all the more reason to track down the OP. I bet whoever did this never thought they were actually involving Wei Zhiqian. Should he come to know about this, that person will be dead meat!”

“Tan Mo, don’t take this upon yourself. You have to tell your family and Wei Zhiqian,” Jin Yuelin urged. “You should also request the article to be deleted.”

Tan Mo nodded and drew in a few deep breaths.

When she first saw the article, she was brimming with anger that she could not contemplate her next steps rationally, unlike Meng Yuxi and Jin Yuelin, who could treat the matter clear-headedly since they were not the victim.

Moreover, they had already digested the content of the post after reading it before that.

Though they might have been angry at first, they had already calmed down and started making countermeasures.

Tan Mo took in a few breaths to keep her composure.

After making mental preparations, Tan Mo opened the link to the article again and saved the three images to her smartphone.

Lin Fuxi, who had been watching from the sidelines, came up to them and remarked, “It isn’t easy to find out the culprit.”

“There’s a popular saying that says the Internet is not a lawless space,” Meng Yuxi snorted. “As long as the person said something on the web, we will have a way to find it out. What it all comes down to is our desire to discover it and how we do it.”

Jin Yuelin was scrutinizing Lin Fuxi secretly while Meng Yuxi was talking to the latter.

Right then, Jin Yuelin stated, “Although it’d be an arduous task for an average Jane, she could still ferret out the perpetrator with determination and perseverance.”

“But do you think it would be hard for Tan Mo, who has the support from her family and also the Wei family?” Jin Yuelin added with a smirk.

While listening to them, Tan Mo took a screenshot of the author of the article.

The original poster’s profile picture and username could be seen on top of the page.

Below the username was the IP address.

Tan Mo saved that information on her phone as well.

With that, she pressed the refresh button to read all the latest comments.

Since she was already prepared for it, her mood was no longer as easily affected as before.

Even though she was still irked, she could now think of countermeasures at the very least.

It was different from the first time where she was thrown off guard and was preoccupied with her exasperation, unable to think straight.

Also, she wanted to see what they were saying about her so that she could slap them with her well-grounded responses.

But who would’ve thought that the article had disappeared after Tan Mo refreshed the page?

“Has it been deleted?” Tan Mo didn’t even have the chance to look for President Mu yet.

Initially, she had thought of taking screenshots of all the commenters’ usernames and IP addresses to figure out their identities.

She would only contact President Mu to remove the post after she was done.

But the post was deleted before she could take a single screenshot.

Still, Tan Mo was not really bothered by it.

Since it was removed, then so be it.

Following that, she received a phone call from President Mu.

“President Mu,” Tan Mo greeted.

At that, the remaining three turned to look at her simultaneously.

Lin Fuxi heightened her focus to the highest possible level as she listened to Tan Mo talking on the phone.

“Have you read the article?” President Mu asked.

“Yeah, I just saw it a while ago. I was taking screenshots of the author’s information right before you called. Just then, I thought of keeping a record of all the mean commenters’ usernames and IP addresses. So, I pressed the refresh button and voila, the whole page was gone,” Tan Mo explained.

Having heard that, the three of them took out their smartphones together and checked.

The post was indeed deleted.

However, Tan Mo informed them that she had already taken screenshots of all the information about the author she could find on the page.

President Mu was at a loss for words and thought, “Here I am worried about taking too long to delete the page and be called a slowpoke. But heck, she’s complaining that I was too fast.’

“Should I ask the tech guys to make the page online again?” President Mu queried.

“There’s no need for that.” Tan Mo chuckled, “The only thing I got here is the author’s information. Could you please ask the site moderators to send me the backend logs?”

“Sure. No problem at all,” President Mu agreed without hesitation. “Our university will be investigating this matter as well. Just let me know if you need anything. The campus will do its best to cooperate with you.

“This incident will bring a huge negative impact to us!” President Mu bellowed.

Tan Mo was the mascot of Beijing University.

If Tan Mo did not have a rich family background, the author might even say she was looking for a sugar daddy.

Tan Mo was already an adult who could fall in love and date another person freely. No one should have any say in it.

Yet, what was the author trying to achieve by posting something like this?

Putting the negative impact aside, the act itself was immoral to begin with.

Behaviors like this could never be encouraged.

Those were the things President Mu was furious about.

After ending the call, President Mu instructed the IT staff to send Tan Mo a copy of the backend logs.

Additionally, he ordered the campus technical staff to investigate the matter as well.

Tan Mo stood up and strode toward the balcony with her smartphone in her hand following the call.

“Tan Mo?” Meng Fuxi tailed Tan Mo upon seeing that.

The former’s first response was as if the latter was taking things too hard.

They were lucky to move to the third floor that year.

They could still stop Tan Mo if she were to do anything silly.
