At first, Shen Qin had thought that Xiao Yang might be Wuyang, but after seeing that familiar face, she was now certain that Xiao Yang was an imposter.
Luo Peilan drove Shen Qin home. As Shen Qin leaned against the back seat, she appeared lost in thought, her eyes reflecting frustration.
“Stop the car!” Shen Qin suddenly commanded.
“Master?” Luo Peilan looked at her, puzzled. “Where are you going? I’ll take you.”
“No, thank you.”
Shen Qin took an umbrella and got out of the car. Standing under the street lamp, she was cast in shadows. “No need. I want to walk alone.”
“Be careful,” Luo Peilan called after her.
“Yeah.”
Shen Qin walked alone along the sidewalk for a while before hailing a taxi to a villa on the outskirts of the capital.
The villa was quiet and empty, with only the sound of rain punctuating the stillness.
This villa belonged to Shen Qin, though she rarely stayed here. Only a nanny, Nanny Zhang, was usually present. Shen Qin came here at the beginning of each month for a period of time.
Nanny Zhang looked surprised to see Shen Qin. “Miss Shen, you’re here?”
Given that it was the end of the month, it wasn’t unusual for Shen Qin to visit.
As Shen Qin walked upstairs, she asked, “Nanny Zhang, how is he?”
Nanny Zhang shook her head. “It’s still the same.”
At the end of the hallway on the second floor, a light was on in a room. Unlike the others, this door was reinforced, and beside it was a small, barred window that allowed a view into the room. The window was large enough for someone to poke their head out but too small for a full body to pass through.
Through the window, Shen Qin could see that the bedroom was empty. The bathroom door was closed, but the sound of running water came from inside.
Nanny Zhang said, “Young Master just had dinner and took his medicine. He should be showering now. Would you like to see him later?”
As Shen Qin was about to go downstairs, she noticed water seeping out from under the bathroom door. The sound of running water continued, but the water flowing out was tinged with red.
Shen Qin’s eyes darkened with rare panic. She shouted, “Brother! Shen Ran!”
When there was no response, Shen Qin’s heart grew colder. “Nanny Zhang, quick, give me the key!”
Nanny Zhang quickly realized something was wrong and rushed downstairs to retrieve the key. She usually only delivered food to Shen Ran and cleaned the room weekly, so she didn’t carry a key with her.
Shen Qin grabbed the key and instructed Nanny Zhang, “Hurry up and call Doctor Lin.”
She hurriedly opened the door and headed straight for the bathroom. The bathroom door was locked. Shen Qin kicked the door forcefully and pounded on it, shouting, “Brother! Shen Ran! Come out! Please, come out quickly!”
There was no response.
Shen Qin was frantic. With no sharp tools in the room and lacking the strength to break the door herself, her efforts were futile.
In the midst of her panic, the door was suddenly kicked open with such force that it almost came off its hinges.
Dazed, Shen Qin turned to see Cao Cuo retracting his leg, with Gu Yang, Gu Jin, and Feng Jue following behind him.
Nanny Zhang, breathless and anxious, explained, “Miss Shen, they insisted on coming in. I couldn’t stop them.”
Shen Qin didn’t have time to question why Gu Yang and the others were there. Her focus shifted to the young man lying in the bathtub. Tears streamed down her face as she rushed to him.
“Brother! Shen Ran, wake up!”
The bathroom was steamy, and the water in the bathtub was stained red with blood. The hot water continuously poured in, causing the bloody water to overflow, filling the room with the metallic scent of blood.
The young man slumped against the side of the bathtub, his face pale and his condition critical.
