Chapter 169: Wearing Hanfu Again
Chapter 169: Wearing Hanfu Again
Shen Mozhen invited Liu Man for this empty spot because of three reasons.
First, to alleviate the misunderstandings between Liu Man and Wen Fangfei. Wen Fangfei didn’t want to apologize, so Shen Mozhen stepped up to perform with Wen Fangfei for one program. Afterward, she would perform with Liu Man. Like this, she would be able to hush the complaints about both Liu Man and Wen Fangfei. She would also be able to protect Wen Fangfei’s future.
Second, Wei Wanru was furious that day because she obviously thought well of Liu Man. Wei Wanru’s pickiness was famous in the whole Chinese folk song circle. If she could be so angry for Liu Man, it was clear that Liu Man did have a special talent for Guqin. Shen Mozhen hoped that her teacher could recover as soon as possible, therefore letting her see Liu Man perform would be helpful.
Third, Shen Mozhen personally liked Liu Man’s talent for the Guqin. She could feel that Liu Man’s skill level was higher than her own. Her last bit of envy disappeared because of Liu Man’s talent. In this so-called triangle relationship, she lost with all her heart. Shen Mozhen was different from other women, she wouldn’t be jealous of Liu Man because of her talent. She liked making friends with people that were better than her ever since she was young, no matter the gender. Plus, if the people who seemed better than her accept her as a friend, then that meant she was not bad either.
“I know my request is sudden, but I really hope you would perform as a duo with me.”
Liu Man was surprised. She thought that she was somewhat responsible for the break-up between Tang Tu and Shen Mozhen. Shen Mozhen clearly suggested a break-up after noticing Liu Man’s presence. This showed how Shen Mozhen didn’t hate her; in fact, she was kind to her and Liu Man respected her for that.
Back in the palace, she’s seen too many women who fought over a man. Liu Man valued Shen Mozhen’s ability to live for herself and put things down when she had to. Women should have the bold attitude to live for themselves, and only themselves.
In addition, after ten more days or so, the injury on her right hand would pretty much recover, and her fingernails would’ve grown more. Performing wouldn’t be a problem.
Alas, under Shen Mozhen’s pleading eyes, Liu Man accepted the request.
Shen Mozhen helped Liu Man put her Guqin inside the bag.
Liu Man took her instrument and wore her mask and hat. Shen Mozhen mocked her jokingly for looking like an actual celebrity with all this attire.
After waving farewell to Shen Mozhen, Liu Man hurried to the Capital University.
A girl carrying a Guqin already stood out, and the Hanfu Goddess while carrying a Guqin would never blend in. It was imaginable how, before she stepped out of the school, she would already be stared at.
The filming place of episode 11 of “Shi-Senpai” was the artificial pond of this school. He Qisi chose a sublime location — the square temple beside the pond. There was an old bell inside this temple, which volunteers struck every full hour.
The six people of the “Happy Guo Guo” team all arrived on time to this place. Tao Zhiyao carried a large handbag, which had her Hanfu inside.
They noticed the girl with a Guqin from afar, walking towards them. Jiang Chengfeng and Cheng Han hurried towards her, helping Liu Man carry her Guqin like two gentlemen.
The Guqin was much lighter than the Guzheng, but carrying it for a long time also required strength.
Liu Man relaxed her shoulders and arms. Her top priority now was to change, and so Sun Weiwei took her and Tao Zhiyao to a nearby academic building’s washroom.
Ten minutes later, Liu Man returned, and everyone knew why she was called “Hanfu Goddess” after seeing her attire.
Tao Zhiyao’s Hanfu was far from “temporary costume”. In order to support her and Liu Man’s job, she chose the most expensive attire out of her closet.
This attire was designed by the famous Zhong Jiangnan, who specialized in designing Chinese ethnic groups’ clothings, who customized this Hanfu specially for Tao Zhiyao. It replicated every detail of the female clothing during the Han dynasty.
The attire changed from a white color slowly to galaxy blue, with a purplish tint in the middle. It looked dazzling, and the embroidered white patterns in the front were done by the best and most famous artists.
But the most valuable part about this attire wasn’t the delicate completely man-made decorations; it was the material.
Zhong Jiangnan, in order to make this piece of clothing, went to Tokyo and used a Japanese gradient method to make the shift of colour on this attire natural, as if the ink was the blue honey oozing out of a blue petal when it got squeezed.
Before putting the attire in her closet, Tao Zhiyao only tried this clothing on once when she first received it. She wasn’t a big fan of Hanfu; instead, she just loved buying all sorts of clothes. She had both Western and Eastern attire: Robes, Lolita, night gowns… Lots of them were new and never even touched.
After seeing Liu Man in her outfit, Tao Zhiyao thought this costume wasn’t made for herself — Instead, it was clearly more fitting on Liu Man.
Everyone else thought the same thing.
If Liu Man didn’t expose her shoes when she lifted the hem of the Hanfu, she would’ve looked exactly like a girl from the Han dynasty. Even the hair she tied effortlessly looked natural, modest, and elegant.
“This is a real Hanfu Goddess,” Jiang Chengfeng couldn’t help but exclaim.
Zhang Jiaojiao added, “There are so many girls that love Han attire now, but no one wears it to such a replicating effect. You really look like someone from ancient China.”
Liu Man put down her hem, sat on the stairs of the temple, and placed her Guqin between her knees. She looked natural and proficient, with a temperament that was indescribably vivid. Behind her was a temple, which was in front of willow trees, and she was surrounded by a pond with lively waves.
For just one second, everyone thought they traveled back in time and were watching a lady from a royal family play her instrument.
This moment was mesmerizing. Jiang Chengfeng, despite the fact that he wanted to say some compliments, was speechless. He really hated himself for not being in the Chinese major.
Sun Weiwei said to He Qisi and the others,
“This episode will dominate.”
Tuesday, “Happy Guo Guo”, which had stopped updating for a week, finally updated, and it posted two videos in a row!
The first video depicted a beautiful, fairy-like silhouette in Hanfu, and the subtitles were explaining: “Episode 11, Shi-senpai hitting the bell for the Hanfu Goddess.”
The fans clicked open the first episode,
The first scene revealed an ancient-looking temple beside a pond. Near the pond stood willow trees, with sparrows accompanying. It looked like a Chinese painting.
