Chapter 95 Chapter 093 The Girl in the Square

"Here...!"

Chu Mo waved to the tall girl looking around at the entrance of the barbecue restaurant.

Dressed in a light pink dress and holding a matching pink handbag, Ling Yue's eyes lit up, and she elegantly walked over.

As the university belle, there was no doubt about Ling Yue's beauty. Standing at 175 centimeters and wearing a pair of high-heeled sandals, she was even taller than most men, attracting quite a few glances from the male patrons of the restaurant as she approached.

Chu Mo, with appreciation in his eyes, casually sized her up.

Ling Yue's dress had loose sleeves with a cape-like design, giving an immediate impression of royalty, while the high-waisted and pleated waistline made the entire dress lively and vibrant. Her long hair was tied back in a low ponytail, giving her an air of utmost elegance.

As she gently arrived before him, the sprite-like girl curiously asked,

"Where's Li Fei, that big fatty? Didn't it sound like you were together on the phone?"

"Sit down first."

Chu Mo gestured for her to take a seat across from him before explaining,

"Li Fei has been dieting recently, he isn't as fat as during our school days, he's successfully slimmed down and become quite the handsome man. He had some matters to attend to, so he left early."

Hearing this, Ling Yue, with a playful smile on her beautiful face, said regretfully,

"They say every fatty has potential, and Li Fei actually looked quite handsome at school, with his fair and clean appearance. I'm not at all surprised he's become a handsome man now."

Glancing at the barely touched food in front of her and then covering her mouth to chuckle, Ling Yue teased,

"Who would have thought you and Li Fei were this close. Did he run to you to tattle on me?"

Chu Mo, picturing the helpless face of his close buddy, nodded and said,

"He came to me to complain, saying he got a good scolding from the great campus beauty. But before he left, he asked me to apologize to you.

Li Fei and I were roommates in college, and we've kept in touch over the past three years, often getting together. He's one of the few college mates I'm still in contact with."

Upon hearing that, Ling Yue's face turned a shade of red with embarrassment as she said,

"You two are so close, it seems I've wronged him. I scolded him a lot in the group chat yesterday, but I didn't see him retort.

Find your next adventure on empire

Had I known you were this close, I wouldn't have said so much...

It's awkward now, I don't even know how I'll face him in the future."

After setting out the utensils for her, and due to several drinks beforehand, Chu Mo, his face also a bit red, laughed and said,

"Don't worry about it, the fatty's thick-skinned. Before he left, he even asked me to apologize to you on his behalf. You must be hungry, have something to eat first."

The girl across didn't respond immediately but seriously looked Chu Mo over twice before asking in confusion,

"I thought it was just my imagination, but now I feel like, Chu Mo, you really do seem closer than the last time we met."

Raising his eyebrows slightly in puzzlement, Chu Mo asked,

"What's wrong? Do I seem different in some way?"

Ling Yue laughed heartily, raised her glass, and gently said with her eyes shaped like crescents,

"Nothing much, I just feel that the current you is more approachable than the last time I saw you. Is it because of the alcohol?"

Chu Mo didn't know how to respond, so he simply clinked glasses with her before laughing,

"It might be because beer is tastier than red wine."

After another drink, Chu Mo waved his hand and said,

"I've had quite a bit before you came, so I'll pass on drinking more. Please feel free, I'm just going to enjoy the food."

"You make it sound like I'm some kind of booze-loving lush."

Raising an eyebrow, Ling Yue rolled her eyes coquettishly, exuding charm.

Chu Mo, distractedly, grabbed a skewer of meat and began to eat heartily.

This was a restaurant he and Li Fei used to visit frequently; the ingredients were always fresh, and the flavors authentic.

Though he had grown accustomed to a variety of delicacies recently, Chu Mo still longed for the flavors here, and he ate with gusto, grease smearing his lips.

Once sated with food and drink, the two left the barbecue restaurant, and Chu Mo suggested,

"It's still early, let's take a walk around."

The tall Ling Yue beside me nodded lightly, slinging her handbag onto her back. The girl whose fair face had turned slightly flushed from the drinks gave a gentle nod:

"Tonight I'll follow your plans."

Then, as if something dawned on her, she turned her head slightly and with bright eyes stared at the profile of Chu Mo's face inquisitively:

"Class monitor Du Yanyan said she ran into you at the Bafang International Hotel? You two had dinner together, didn't you? These past few days, Du Yanyan's been posting lots of pictures of delicious foods, top-notch wines, Kobe beef steaks..."

A faint smile played at the corners of his lips as Chu Mo recalled the scene of Du Yanyan asking if he was going to confess to her again that night. He breathed lightly and smiled:

"Yeah, that day I was at the hotel discussing business with a few people. It got very late, and when I was seeing the guests out, I happened to run into her in the lobby. So, I just booked her a presidential suite and casually ordered some dinner for her since she hadn't eaten."

"Oh~"

The voice dragged on as those bright eyes kept stealing glances at his face. Finally, Chu Mo, unable to endure being watched so unnaturally, honestly confessed:

"After dinner, she went back to her own room. Yesterday, she even sent me a message thanking me for the invitation."

At his words, Ling Yue suddenly became lively and jumped up:

"What do I care? I didn't ask you these things."

Chu Mo, smiling and shaking his head, said no more and instead kept her company seriously as they jaywalked across the street.

It was already 8 p.m., and the streets of the city were brightly lit, wandering into the night market without realizing it, the two walked side by side, strolling leisurely.

The streets were lined with new clothes and all sorts of intriguing toys, dazzling to the eyes, while boys and girls dressed to the nines frolicked with laughter and play.

Occasionally, Ling Yue would stop to pick out some breezy clothes through the crowd, Chu Mo could see a few men in black leisurely following behind them.

Of course, Chu Mo, not wanting to be disturbed, nodded subtly to Shou Bo nearby, and the latter's figure disappeared from view.

Passing through the night market, the once crowded streets suddenly cleared, and a huge square appeared before their eyes. Two handsome men and women walked towards the pedestrian bridge, and just then, a gentle melody echoed by their ears.

Ling Yue beside me stopped in her tracks, listening intently, and seeing this, Chu Mo, also with a hint of curiosity, similarly concentrated; shortly after, a beautiful melody filled his ears.

Looking around, Chu Mo spotted a tall, thin man singing and playing guitar on the opposite side of the square on the pedestrian bridge.

Ling Yue began slowly moving forward, the closer she got to that figure, the clearer the singing in her ears.

"...

Without a trace, beyond words,

Feigning gentleness, till today,

All actions translate into this rainy night's reckless embrace,

...!"

Ling Yue, with eyes gently closed, stood listening quietly, the image of her sheer serenity.

After a while, the street performer under the bridge finished his song, and amidst sparse applause, he bowed and thanked the audience with his guitar hugged close.

And at that moment, Ling Yue suddenly grabbed Chu Mo's hand and, with a face full of eagerness, said:

"Let's do it together."

Chu Mo was briskly led down from the pedestrian bridge before he could react, and Ling Yue approached and chatted with the tall, thin man for a moment before the man handed his guitar to her, leaving Chu Mo agape.

Handing her bag to Chu Mo, her cheeks flushed from the alcohol, Ling Yue cradled the guitar and then the exceptionally beautiful girl stretched out her pale, delicate hands. With her fingers dancing, wonderful notes instantly spread throughout the square.

With her lips parting slightly, an angelic voice resonated in the ears:

"...

Disregarding the torrential downpour, unmindful of being drenched,

You roll up the splashes of rain, moving further away,

The small alley's dawn always arrives earlier,

I want to seize the moment, and grasp hold of you,

To tell you, don't go, don't go,

...!"

Holding the pink handbag, Chu Mo's heart pounded like a drum. There, in that bustling square, was he being flirted with by a drop-dead gorgeous girl?
