Chapter 41
C41 – Instructor Lee’s Worries
From the second day forward, Instructor Lee honored his promise, giving the students of Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four the freedom to choose their own training location.
The boys deferred the choice to the girls, and the unanimous decision was the Taekwondo dojo at Forest City University.
The Taekwondo Club at Forest City University is among the top ten student organizations on campus, which explains why their dojo is so spacious—it was converted from an indoor basketball court.
This dojo boasts two central air conditioning units that run for 12 hours during the day, ensuring a warm environment in winter and a cool one in summer. It’s a dream training spot for all students undergoing military training.
Yet, most instructors, while not overly harsh, would typically only allow training in the shade of trees, never in the comfort of the Taekwondo dojo, as it would contradict the principles of military training.
If it weren’t for Instructor Lee losing a bet, he would never have consented to use the Taekwondo dojo.
“Now that the venue is settled, let’s head over. But just to be clear, this is your choice, not mine. I don’t have the authority to take over your school’s Taekwondo dojo. Whether or not you can use it is something you’ll need to negotiate yourselves.”
In the basketball court, Instructor Lee, with two fingers on his right hand bandaged, spoke with a stern face, his gaze fixed on Wang Xiao. He still felt a twinge of embarrassment over being bested by a student in combat.
“Don’t worry, Instructor Lee. We get it. No special treatment. It was our idea to go, not yours,” they reassured him.
“Exactly. And about the venue, rest easy. With so many girls in our class, a single flirtatious glance is all it’ll take to knock the Taekwondo Club’s leader off their feet,” they joked.
Hearing this, the boys from Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four chuckled mischievously, winking at Instructor Lee as if to say, “Leave it to us.”
The girls stood tall, chests out, radiating confidence.
After all, what can’t be solved with a wink? And if that doesn’t work, just throw in another!
“Let’s get moving!”
Upon hearing the crowd’s consensus, Instructor Lee’s face softened before he spoke with authority.
“Instructor Lee is invincible!”
“Time to head out—we’ve got military training at the Taekwondo club.”
The students of Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four erupted into joyful screams and cheers.
Students from other classes could hear the jubilant sounds from afar, their faces painted with envy.
“Instructor, this isn’t fair. Why does Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four get to train at the Taekwondo club? We want in too.”
At that moment, a few daring boys from other classes raised their hands in protest to their own instructors.
The instructors, upon hearing this, clenched their fists until they crackled and sneered, “Alright, if any of you can meet my challenge, I’ll let you train at the Taekwondo club too.”
Gulp…
The boys, who had been protesting vociferously, suddenly found it hard to swallow and cast fearful glances at their instructors.
“Are you kidding? Sparring with the instructor? That’s just asking for trouble.”
“Someone from Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four actually took on the instructor and won? Can that be true?”
“That guy must be incredibly tough!”
The rumor quickly spread among the freshmen at Forest City University that a prodigy from Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four had bested an army instructor in a duel.
The news sent shockwaves through the freshman class, and even some sophomores caught wind of the tale.
A few skeptical first-years even challenged their own instructors, only to be soundly thrashed. That quickly brought them in line.
Witnessing their instructor’s formidable prowess, the onlooking students were struck with fear, and their training intensified—none wanted to risk their instructor’s wrath.
To the surprise of the instructors themselves, this whole episode had unexpectedly tripled their training efficiency.
……
Inside the Taekwondo club, the students of Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four practiced their stances and marching drills, basking in the cool breeze of the air conditioning. Each student’s face was aglow with contentment, their smiles a testament to their happiness.
They could hardly believe that their military training would one day take place in an air-conditioned indoor facility.
Across the venue, a group of sophomore Taekwondo Club members were diligently practicing. Yet, amidst their training, they couldn’t help but steal glances at the beauties from Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four, murmuring among themselves.
“Wow, the new students this year are really something. So many beautiful girls.”
“Absolutely. They’re all studying TCM. Imagine getting one of them to give you daily massages, acupuncture, and cupping therapy. That’d be the life…”
These Taekwondo Club members whispered conspiratorially, their eyes gleaming with avarice as they engaged in their lewd discussions.
When the Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four students arrived at the Taekwondo dojo, they were somewhat taken aback.
Upon learning that the TCM students wished to share their space, the student in charge of the dojo was initially hesitant. He wasn’t the club president, after all, and couldn’t make such decisions on his own.
But the Taekwondo Club members below were unanimously in favor, especially after being cajoled and charmed by a group of attractive young women. The student in charge felt like he was on top of the world and didn’t hesitate to give his approval.
?If the president were to question his decision later, he’d simply say it was a unanimous vote by the members, and he was merely honoring the will of the people.
Hadn’t he noticed how the presence of the TCM female students seemed to invigorate the club members, who now trained with exceptional zeal?
“Did you ever train in martial arts before?”
Instructor Lee and Wang Xiao stood on the dojo’s platform, observing the students below. Out of the blue, Instructor Lee posed the question to Wang Xiao.
?”Just a bit,” Wang Xiao replied with a light smile.
“Ever thought about enlisting? Serving your country with pride?”
Instructor Lee’s face lit up with understanding before he spoke.
Wang Xiao was taken aback; he hadn’t expected Instructor Lee to broach such a topic. He chuckled and responded, “Instructor Lee, what made you ask me that all of a sudden?”
“Today’s Hua Xia, despite its prosperity, is constantly threatened by those who seek to undermine its very foundations. Countless treacherous deeds are carried out in the shadows. Hua Xia will always need protectors. You have talent, and I hope you’ll consider enlisting to serve your country…”
Instructor Lee’s face took on a grave expression, his eyes piercing as he spoke with a resonant voice.
“There’s no such thing as everlasting tranquility in this world. It’s only because some are willing to bear the burden and march forward on our behalf!”
Boom…
Wang Xiao’s body jolted at Instructor Lee’s words, his previously casual gaze sharpening with solemnity.
Wasn’t this statement a tribute to the soldiers?
Hua Xia’s current prosperity and stability were thanks to the silent guardianship of its devoted soldiers!
“So, is this why you’re training them so rigorously?”
Wang Xiao locked eyes with Instructor Lee, gesturing towards the students of Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four on the training field, his voice subdued.
“Yes, their physical strength is lacking. In 13 days, when the military training concludes, I’ll be leaving. So, during these 13 days, I want to do everything I can to improve their condition…”
Instructor Lee spoke evenly, his demeanor unflappable.
Wang Xiao’s earlier grievances with Instructor Lee began to ebb away.
He was more than a competent soldier; he was an exceptional instructor.
His love, however, was undeniably stern.
“It seems we’ve all misjudged you.”
A smile crept across Wang Xiao’s face as he addressed Instructor Lee, “Behind your back, they’ve taken to calling you the ‘Demon Instructor.'”
“If they remember me for the rest of their lives, that’s quite an honor,” Instructor Lee replied with a smile.
?It was the first time Wang Xiao had seen Instructor Lee smile. Though it was a mere curl of the lips, Wang Xiao could tell it was genuine.
Yet, Instructor Lee’s smile was somewhat less than charming.
“Serving your country doesn’t necessarily mean joining the military. Whether you’re farming the land or teaching, as long as your heart is with Hua Xia, that too is patriotism, isn’t it?”
Wang Xiao turned to face Instructor Lee, his mouth curving in earnest, his spine straightening as if he were a sword drawn from its scabbard.
“As long as one’s heart is with China, even farming and teaching can be acts of patriotism…”
Upon hearing this, Instructor Lee mulled over the words several times. Then, his eyes brightened suddenly, and he raised his gaze to Wang Xiao, admitting, “You’re right. I’ve been too narrow-minded. My apologies.”
His apology was heartfelt, not merely a formality.
Having enlisted right after high school, he had always believed that military service was the truest way to serve his country. The internet was rife with stories of female university students compromising their morals for money, neglecting their studies, and making questionable choices, which infuriated him.
So when he encountered the pampered demeanor of the girls from Traditional Chinese Medicine System Class Four, he was less than welcoming.
But after spending two days with them, Instructor Lee recognized a resilient streak in these students. Despite their delicate constitutions, they faced his rigorous training with determination and perseverance.
They were nothing like the girls he’d read about online.
This revelation left him both stunned and heartened.
Realizing his mistake after Wang Xiao’s remark, he offered a contrite apology.
“Instructor, you’re being too hard on yourself. Your willingness to let us train at the Taekwondo club shows you’re a man of integrity. We all hold you in high regard,” Wang Xiao said, a gentle smile on his face.
?Instructor Lee responded with a light smile of his own.
With their misunderstandings behind them, the two engaged in a warm and friendly conversation.
