Chapter 52: Confident Tom
Even though Arash had seen the incredible speed displayed by the "Schrdinger's Cat" that his Master referred to, he was still somewhat surprised to witness his own arrow being instantly intercepted. After all, even though it wasn't his full-powered attack, it wasn't something that could be easily dealt with either.
Most importantly, as an Archer-class Servant with A+ ranked Clairvoyance, he hadn't been able to see how his attack was neutralized. He only caught a glimpse of a stone, and then his own arrow was shot down, which happened suddenly.
"Well then!" Arash exclaimed.
Taking a small leap back into the air, Arash didn't just shoot a single arrow as a probe like before. Instead, he rapidly plucked the bowstring, and a dozen or so arrows shot out in quick succession, heading straight towards Bai Song's direction.
The sheer motion of these arrows cutting through the air was enough to cause harm to anyone standing nearby.
However, on Bai Song's side, after enduring the previous round of attacks, Bai Song and Tom were prepared to face the next assault. Tom was now standing in front of Bai Song, once again wearing his "epic-level armor." He had a small pot on his head, trash can lids hanging in front and back, connected by wire, and he held a broom in each hand.
Although... no matter how you looked at it, Tom's attire was quite shabby.
But Tom the cat didn't think so. On the contrary, he felt quite secure in his outfit, wearing a serious expression as he awaited the next attack.
Soon, more than ten arrows flew towards them once again from a distance. Each arrow possessed the same power as the one that had been blasted by Jerry's slingshot, or perhaps even greater.
However, Tom remained unfazed. With Jerry's outstanding performance earlier, Tom was confident that if Jerry could intercept the arrows, then so could he. Considering the feats accomplished by a mouse, how could a cat like Tom be any less capable? Armed with this mindset, Tom decisively positioned himself in front of Bai Song.
However... Tom's bravery didn't inspire Bai Song to be courageous. Even with Tom standing before him, Bai Song quickly took several steps backward.
In the instant the arrows arrived, Tom's eyes, which were fixed on Arash as he sought to see how he would deal with the situation, suddenly went dark, as if intentionally obscured.
At the moment when Tom's eyes were partially revealed through the gap between the two black curtains that swiftly moved from above and below, Arash looked towards Tom. It was as if a special spotlight was shining on Tom's eyes, leaving only a three-centimeter opening. There was even a faint sound of "whoosh!" as the two curtains closed and left only the narrow slit.
Witnessing this unusual sight, Arash was momentarily stunned. His initial reaction was, "Oh no, my Clairvoyance is malfunctioning!" However, when he blinked and looked away from Tom's eyes, the effect suddenly disappeared.
"Hu-ha!" Tom swung the broom in his hand with a single hand, striking the side of the incoming arrows and deflecting them off course.
"Boom!!!" The arrows, after being struck, collided with a nearby wall that belonged to an unknown household. Accompanied by a loud explosion, a significant portion of the wall collapsed, leaving a six-meter-long gap. The ground near the wall turned into a large pit, despite the arrows hitting the wall instead of the ground.
Just imagine, if one of these explosive arrows hit Tom, wouldn't he end up with patches of blue and purple bruises? And if they struck Bai Song, it would be even worse.
But it wasn't over yet. It wasn't just a single arrow; there were dozens of them. If these arrows were used to destroy buildings, they could easily bring down an entire structure.
"Hu-ha! Hu-hu-hu-ha!" Tom didn't stop his actions; he continued to swing the broom. With each swing, another arrow was deflected, causing destruction and intense explosions in the surrounding area.
In less than three seconds, Tom successfully blocked all the arrows in the air. Don't ask how dozens of arrows shot within a fraction of a second provided Tom with three seconds to counter; not even Tom himself knew the answer.
After witnessing Tom's incredible feat, Arash exclaimed, "This cat... is truly formidable!"
"It's okay, great hero. If you give it your all, you'll definitely win," Gudako, who was currently on Mashu's back, recalled the countless fireworks she had released and gave a very insightful comment.
As long as Arash used his Noble Phantasm, he could easily obliterate Tom. If that happened, Tom would truly be reduced to dust and ashes.
"Don't worry, Master, I will definitely bring you victory!" Although Arash couldn't understand why, he felt an increasing sense of dread in his heart, and the word 'danger' on his head grew larger. Nevertheless, Arash was still glad for Gudako's trust in him.
Out of trust in Gudako, Arash decisively dismissed the uneasy feeling as a mere illusion. Taking a deep breath, he once again nocked an arrow on his bow. But this time, instead of rapid-fire, Arash began to gather his strength, releasing his grip on the arrow's tail when he felt it was just right.
After intercepting dozens of arrows, Tom raised his head. If it weren't for both of his hands holding the broom, he might have even crossed his arms. "Well... do they really not care about the rules of the Holy Grail War?" Bai Song, observing the ruins around him, couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation.
Although he was standing behind Tom earlier, feeling completely safe, the lingering shockwaves of the explosions still made him anxious. It was like someone who knew they wouldn't be harmed watching a horror movie but still couldn't help feeling scared. This experience was even more terrifying than watching a horror movie, akin to immersing oneself in a VR experience of the highest level. Just imagining it could give one an idea of the fear Bai Song was feeling.
"It should be about time... right? They won't continue, will they?!" Just when Bai Song thought that after Tom had blocked those dozen arrows, the opponent would realize it was futile and retreat, he looked up only to see another arrow hurtling towards him. And the force behind it was even greater than the previous dozen!
Tom, who was still holding his head high, saw that only one arrow was coming this time and became even more arrogant. The whole cat instantly swelled up, raising the brush in his right hand.
"Boom!!!" When Tom confidently swung his brush to strike the incoming arrow, the brush was instantly destroyed. Then... the arrow directly hit Tom's abdomen!
