Chapter 516.3: Confrontation, Vision, Exposing
Alright, this matter actually wasn’t that important. Jing Wan no longer continued asking. “By the way, Ah Yuan, I heard that Inspector General Su got transferred back to the capital, getting promoted as the Head Minister of Rites. Didn’t he just get transferred from Tong Prefecture to the south a year ago? How come just got transferred again this quickly?”
“Someone desperately wants to have him transferred back, so naturally just returned. What’s so strange about it?”
“You also participated in this matter, right?” Jing Wan hooked her mouth as she looked to Li Hong Yuan, “Would I not know what you’re thinking? That Inspector General Su, well, at present, should call him Head Minister of Rites, is a genuine old fox. Having him brought back to the capital at this time, is it really okay? Are you disdaining the capital’s water for not being muddy enough, not lively enough? Don’t forget, during the first encounter, that old fox already produced suspicions towards you. Right now, are you sure you’re not looking for trouble for yourself?”
As the saying goes, ‘the onlooker sees more clearly than the ones involved’. The current Head Minister of Rites, Sir Su, prior to meeting Li Hong Yuan for the first time, also just heard the various rumors regarding Jin Qinwang. But, for someone like him, it was always being cautious and careful at all times, believing what he sees as the truth, and what he hears as false. Moreover, towards his own senses, he has always been very confident. From the first meeting, he already sensed a threat from Jin Qinwang. That’s why, regardless of what the rumors concerning Jin Qinwang were like, he still further believed his own judgement.
This kind of person, in reality, was quite scary, because they were able to more easily see the truth of a matter than ordinary people.
“Don’t worry, this husband is well aware inside. One has to know, uncertain dangerous elements usually only when placed under one’s eyelid can one be further at ease.”
Jing Wan naturally understood this reasoning as well. Rather than leaving him in the south to secretly cause trouble, letting the people far away in the capital be unable to reach, this way right now was also not bad. At least, for many things, after discovering, it can be reported up first thing. And if in the south, because the communication wasn’t convenient, the report getting delayed, in the end, even if thinking of a good way to prevent, it might also be too late. Just, once the wind and rain is stirred up in the capital, it will certainly be much more severe than in the south. After all, for everything, the final goal was also just one, and that was the throne. No matter how capable this Sir Su was, to want to control things in the capital remotely, it also won’t be that easy.
That’s why, all things have two sides. Just at present, one temporarily can’t tell exactly which side was greater.
“However, having this Sir Su thrown onto the position of Head Minister of Rites, exactly whose idea was it?”
Head Minister, although was a first rank high minister, but comparatively speaking, the Head Minister of Rites didn’t have as much actual power as the other ministries. Just from the current state of affairs, the Ministry of Revenue was still missing a right and left assistant minister. Inspector General Su sitting onto the position of Assistant Minister of Revenue would be far better than becoming the Head Minister of Rites. After all, because of the undisclosed corruption, as well as the evident negligence, the Head Minister of Revenue will soon ‘voluntarily’ retire from his post, so as to avoid losing his honor at old age. When time comes, even if this Sir Su can’t sit onto the position of Head Minister of Revenue, based on his abilities, to want to do a bit of something in the Ministry of Revenue, it was still very easy. But, in the Ministry of Rites, even if overturning the place, it seemingly was also just that.
One has to know, from the position of Inspector General to Assistant Minister, it was considered an equal transfer.
The Inspector General was a province’s highest administrative official, the regional general acting as governor, so the power in hand was quite heavy. This kind of person, to suddenly let him sit on a ‘cold stool’, on the surface perhaps it didn’t show, but on the inside, don’t know how stifled. It goes without saying, in the very beginning, they were probably scheming for the Assistant Minister of Revenue position, yet in the end, became the Head Minister of Rites. Aside from the rank appearing a bit better, what other benefits can there be? It goes without saying, for anyone that has ambitions, all won’t be interested in a pretty hat.
TN: All
Just like for instance, going from the Head Minister of Rites to the Head Minister of Appointments, others would all say congratulations on the promotion, and not congratulations on the transfer.
“Say, was it your handiwork again?” Jing Wan reached out, continuing to jab him.
Li Hong Yuan grabbed Jing Wan’s hand, placing by his lips and lightly kissing, “Having the person transferred back, all had this prince pushing from behind, so in the end, what position to sit in, of course it’s still this prince having the final say. Solely just wanting to obtain benefits from this prince’s hand won’t do, ultimately need to pay a price that satisfies this prince.”
Look at this high-sounding man that treats all things as expected and natural, really very much make one want to beat up. However, what to do, Jing Wan instead liked him more and more. At anywhere and anytime, this heart all wildly raced for him.
How others will be, naturally don’t need for them to go consider. However, the war in the northwest, although has come to an end, there were still many many follow-up matters. For instance, issuing financial aid to the injured or fallen soldiers and their family, moving the population to the northwest, also those territories ‘stolen’ from West Xiongnu, need to decide whether it’s partitioning into a new province, or dividing into the northwest border province, as well as dispatching officials, handling the various problems that appeared during the war, and so on. These things absolutely can’t be finished in a short period of time. That’s why, there will still be many people busily running about.
Li Hong Yuan, as the one controlling the state of affairs, can’t throw the matter to others that easily either. Otherwise, with the major matters in front all handled perfectly, yet the matters afterwards end up having careless mistakes, that would truly be unfortunate.
Speaking of which, the one that was the most idle was probably still Fu Yun Ting. With him letting go of everything, it was truly letting go very cleanly, not getting involved in the slightest matter. In the past, in the capital, for better or worse, he still held an idle post in the city defense, occasionally even attending morning roll call. But now, that was just directly shutting the gates and declining guests, not meeting with anyone, truly quite ‘arrogant’.
Jing Wan organized a huge pile of things and headed to the Luo Manor, meeting her newly added two nephews and one niece. Her two nephews were both her eldest tang brother’s, one shu and one di. Her niece was her second tang brother’s. It seems among the five children of the Luo family’s fourth generation, all three boys were from the first branch. Jing Wan was still glad that for her eldest tang brother’s second di son, one temporarily can’t make out any symptoms of genetic diseases brought about by the union of two close relatives———Hope that there really isn’t any influence at all. After all, some diseases, one simply can’t make out right now.
(T/N: Jing Wan’s eldest tang brother and his wife are first cousins.)
As for her good friend plus sister-in-law, she originally didn’t really care that much about this matter, but this while, she was all somewhat jealous.
Jing Wan found it funny, her gaze landing on her stomach, “Don’t you already have a second one coming? This second one of yours certainly will be a son.”
Sun Yu Jia stroked her stomach, “I’m just saying it right now. This one in the stomach, whether it’s a son or a daughter, I don’t really care that much, and probably because of you, father and mother also don’t have any thoughts. Xuan’er, in their hearts, have always been a precious treasure. I guess, it’s because they’re aware that they weren’t qualifying parents, so now want to have those thoughts compensated on the younger generation. Sometimes, they even fight over the child with me.” She couldn’t help but laugh.
“Then, what about my third brother’s opinion? Whether it’s a son or daughter, he doesn’t have any thoughts either?”
Sun Yi Jia unconcernedly waved her hand, “His opinion can be ignored.”
Jing Wan laughed. Right now, that third brother of hers really got tightly grasped by his own wife.
“Don’t just talk about me. Now that I’m already pregnant with a son, where’s my daughter-in-law? When are you preparing to have one for me?” Sun Yi Jia could tell Jing Wan seemingly still don’t plan on having a child. Although long knowing the reason, but as a member of the imperial family, without a child at her side, it was really hard to not worry for her. Even if Jin Qinwang doesn’t say anything, others will still have complaints.
Although sounding like a joke, Jing Wan still understood her meaning, but she didn’t plan on directly answering, “Don’t bother, regardless whether it’s a son or daughter, our children, I don’t plan on marrying together.”
“Eh, why?” Sun Yi Jia didn’t think of the problem of status or position, just purely not understanding.
“If people of close bloodline come together, the child born, compared to others, is more likely to have birth defects.”
Sun Yi Jia was shocked, “There’s even this kind of thing?”
Jing Wan nodded, “Actually, this kind of thing, if one slightly pays attention, should be able to notice.”
Sun Yi Jia’s eyes slightly flickered, seemingly thinking of something, “Then, eldest sister-in-law’s two children, are you also worried about?”
Jing Wan didn’t deny, “Some symptoms, one can make out not long after the child is born, but some symptoms will only gradually appear as the child grows. They are my nephews, so I naturally hope for them to both be well.”
Sun Yi Jia had an understanding inside. This topic also just got pushed aside, no longer mentioning.
T/N: Inspector General Su was first introduced during the Jiangnan Arc, towards the end of chapter 280. He was also the only one of the high ranking officials of Jiangnan that didn’t get demoted, imprisoned, or executed but just got transferred at the end of the arc. It’s also mentioned that he’s connected to the murder of Yu Zhong Qing’s original family, see chapter 287.
