Chapter 120 As Expected (5)
Chapter 120 As Expected (5)
The poison darts flew in an arc and hit Jake in the shoulders. The attack made his body grow numb for a few seconds, but Jake's willpower prevented him from lowering his shield. Not to mention, his health began to decrease at a fearsome pace. Fortunately, Lana acted fast and used Purification several times to nullify the poison.
In the next moment, a huge-ass ice arrow flew toward the face of the creature and completely ignored the Flamethrower. The attack had been so powerful that not only the boss stopped instantly, but the temperate of the room decreased considerably for a few seconds. Not to mention, half of the monster's face had been frozen by the attack. Jake and Karina jumped toward it and attacked with their best skills, causing tons of damage while making the ice dissipate and destroying a good party of the creature's face.
"GGGGGGYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
The elder salamander screamed from the depths of its soul in pain. For a moment, everyone thought that they were on the wrong side of the battle since it looked like they were bullying animals. However, those thoughts suddenly disappeared from their minds when they saw the creature raising its body completely… that wasn't a good sign.
The monster suddenly dashed toward Jake… no, it dashed toward Louise since her attack made the creature lose almost three thousand health points. However, the monster found Jake blocking its path… but when comparing both bodies, it was only natural that Jake would end up losing the exchange, and so he did it. However, he was knocked down or sent flying by the monster because he used Defense Mode. He suffered less damage than expected, but Jake still felt his whole body being crushed by the pressure of the enemies' weight.
Congratulations! The skill Defense Mode has leveled up.

It was useful to know that Jake could make his skills level up so fast at a certain moment, but he didn't have time to celebrate it. The monster was still pushing down, and Lana had to choose between healing him or running away to avoid her death. In the end, Louise fired several Ice Arrows on the wounded face of the monster, and the creature was forced to stop.
In the next moment, Karina jumped into the monster's back again and used her daggers to attack the monster. Yet again, the creature grunted in agony with the critical hit… Jake tried to follow up the attack by getting close, but the Elder Salamander used Flamethrower. However, this time, the creature, instead of selecting a single target, it aimed in all directions. Before Karina could get caught in the attack, she returned to her allies' shield and hid behind Jake's shield. Once she did that, the monster finally focused on the group, and the power of the flames had increased considerably. It didn't take long for the hide in Jake's shield to completely melt, so Jake started to receive a lot more damage, and his shield began to lose durability. Lana tried to counter the flames with her Heal, but she was losing it. Louise and Lana used Barrier and Earth Wall, but not even that was working…
"It is just like before! The monster got stronger now that suffered a lot of damage!" Lana said.

The boss was using two hundred points of mana per second to keep that spell active while strengthened. Still, it was obvious that the group won't last until the monster ran out of juice. Despite that, the best attack of the monster was also what caused its downfall. All the pain caused by the burn marks made Jake's anger increase, alongside the power of his flames. He unconsciously divided his flames into several smaller ones and turned them into needles, and then made them pierce the face of the boss.
The boss grunted in agony while Jake was forcing the needles to pierce the monster's skull. Still, since he focused on the number of attacks instead of power, he didn't obtain the result that he wanted, which was to kill the monster right at that moment. On the other hand, the monster finally stopped the Flamethrower, and the group finally had some room to breathe. They finally had the chance to attack all at the same time, but Jake dropped his left arm and his shield alongside it. When the girls saw his left arm, they opened their eyes widely in shock. Most of his left arm skin had been burned to the point where it even reached the muscles. It was already shocking that Jake wasn't screaming in pain, much less glaring at the enemy like he wanted more…
"Jake… your arm," Lana said as pale as a ghost.
"Buff Karina's swords again with Lesser Poison Enchantment," Jake said and then grabbed some potions and poured them on his left arm.
The pain decreased, and his arm began to heal, but Jake didn't wait for it to be back to normal. Instead of that, he covered his katana with Flames of Wrath and then dashed toward the enemy.
"Focus on the fight, it is the best thing we can do right now," Louise said.
The monster's head was free from the dark flames, but then something even more brutal cut the monster's cheeks: Jake's katana was enveloped by the flames. Jake barely felt any resistance in the monster's flesh, so he attacked the creature viciously. The creature tried to head-butt him, but in the end, it hesitated since Jake would block the attack with the sword.
Jake used that chance to slice the monster's face into several pieces. Amidst that, the Elder Salamander got enraged again, making all the pits to explode. After that, the creature opened its mouth to use the massive Flamethrower again, but Karina suddenly appeared and made her swords pierce the monster's head.
