Chapter 198 Advice (4)
Chapter 198 Advice (4)
Jake hoped to find some drops, but the monsters were stingy and didn't leave anything behind. To make things worse, it was hard to imagine how he could sell parts of a mummy… doing that on Earth probably would be a crime. Even the bandages were useless, and they smelled really bad, so Jake gave up on that. He made a mental note regarding that mission and he swore to follow it to the very end...
"I guess this is the first and final time I will come to this world… I can't obtain materials, so only the first clearing rewards are what matter," Jake thought. "I guess this explains why this mission is so unpopular, the loot sucks, the materials are close to none and the atmosphere is bothersome."
Jake began to follow the footsteps left by the mummies, and it didn't take long for him to find another group that had four of them. It seemed that he would have to fight groups, even before reaching the dungeon. That wasn't impossible, but it was a bit worrying since their numbers were increasing with every mission, and Jake felt that it was a warning from the system that things would only get more complicated.
In any case, just like before, the second group of mummies used gravity to hinder Jake's movements. He truly needed to get the equipment that would grant him Resistance to that skill… In any case, he had an idea. He jumped to the side and began to slip down one of the dunes and then used Boomerang Shield. Before he could reach the bottom, he managed to kill off two monsters, and the distance between them didn't decrease a bit.
The mummies jumped from the top of the dune to attack him directly, but Jake just used Concentrated strike and cut them into two or in four pieces. Jake knew that their gravity gave them an edge, but the fact that they were dying that easily bothered him. Was it because he could kill them up close too fast, and they couldn't show what they could do at close range?
While feeling a bit confused, Jake kept moving, and after half an hour, he realized that ahead, there was a weird dune. It was the only one in an area of five hundred meters, so Jake wondered how come he didn't see that before. Maybe it was because it was too far away before.
In any case, Jake looked around, but he only found a couple of mummies. It wasn't surprising since the dungeon had been cleared less than one week ago, but…
"The entrance looks like… It was man-made…" Jake thought when he saw that the first area of the dungeon looked like some kind of old building. "It couldn't be like the interior of a pyramid, would it?"
Jake looked around, and he was certain that the dungeon would be an underground one… he didn't think much when going to underground dungeons before. Still, now he was worried that he might be buried alive if the thing fell apart.
"Well, I can use the system to escape…" Jake said.
Jake's weird feeling only got worse when he said that, and he hesitated even more. His instincts were telling him not to enter the dungeon. He couldn't say why, but it seemed like it would be a bad idea, and yet…
"Let's see what life has in store for me," Jake thought.
Jake never ran away from anything in his life… at least nothing that he couldn't deal with, so he wouldn't do that. He wasn't afraid of traps or the mysteries of that mission, so he could only move ahead.
It didn't take long for Jake to confirm that the interior of the dungeon was like of a pyramid. Proper walls that had some cracks here and there, but nothing serious. In some parts, it looked like the walls had been carved out of a single rock… The corridors were pretty small, though, so fighting against a group of mummies should be difficult for groups of players. Jake found a group of mummies ahead, but he kited them by using Boomerang Shield while walking backward. After a while, Jake found a large room ahead, and the room split into three paths. Front, right, and left… it was a pretty weird bifurcation…

It was a common cliche for the protagonists of some adventure movies to fall for traps in such places. Still, Jake couldn't see anything weird on the floor, so it didn't seem like he would activate any trap. Nevertheless, he waited for a while for the mummies to come and show him the right path, but they didn't come…
"For real… they can even control like that?" Jake thought. "They didn't seem that smart to me."
Jake shrugged and then decided to follow the left path's rule to find the dungeon's exit. He was fairly certain it would work on structures like that. However, before anything, he just jumped toward the left path instead of crossing and activating some kind of trap. One wouldn't lose anything by being cautious.
Jake didn't get surprised when he suddenly found a dead end in that direction after a couple of minutes and four mummies waiting for him there. At such point in time, he was starting to think that purple crystal was controlling them. Still, why did the others not do the same?
In any case, Jake charged toward them before they could use gravity magic and impaled their heads with a single sword strike. That was what they get from trying to ambush him in a confined space.
Jake didn't find any problems in the dungeon aside from the fact that he was wasting a lot of time finding the right path. Fortunately, no traps were activated… However, after a couple of hours, the entire dungeon began to tremble, and that was a phenomenon that he hadn't experienced before…
