Chapter 218 One Out Of Three (4)
Jake woke up the next day with someone knocking on his door. Since his senses didn't wake him up, he could already tell who it was. Still, why the hell did his senses feel relaxed when it comes to these guys? In a sense, they were more troublesome than dungeon bosses.
"Why are you guys here again?" Jake asked when he opened the door.
"We made a bet," Lana said. "We heard that a cloaked figure saved the princess of the second world yesterday and I didn't believe that it was you. Louise said that you would do that since you tend to do good deeds while no one looks."
"It was me, but I am not that of a good person," Jake said. "I took all the armor and weapons I found valuable inside the castle, after all. Only someone dumb would do that much work for others and not take something in exchange and don't say that the rewards of the quests was enough."
"I am not sure what is the worst… Not helping or helping and taking things away instead of waiting for proper rewards," Lana said. "In any case, we are also here for some serious reasons."
"Guild master assumed that you would like to hear what happened in the third world," Louise said.
"As long as you can share your perspective from those incidents," Lana added.
"I almost could respect you guys… But you don't mind being treated like errand boys from Frederick, so I guess that is impossible," Jake said.
"This is the week that we work for the guild, so it is fine," Karina said.
"That changes absolutely nothing," Jake said. "Well, all right. Ladies first."
"How convenient for you," Lana said.
"I said ladies first, you need to become one first to talk now," Jake said.
"You will have to try harder, I am developing my thick skin against your nonsense," Lana said.
The army stationed there failed at defending their capital, and the monsters destroyed almost everything. In the end, they raised the castle and also took the last member of the royal family and the magic weapon that represented them.
"How did things happen to you?" Louise asked.
"On the second world, I thought that the mission would fail if the entire city falls, so I decided to face the monsters there," Jake replied. "They were too focused on the castle, so I got curious and chased them. Eventually, I found a boss and a few goons carrying a bag. I thought about killing them. I could keep the things that they stole, but I gave up on that when I saw a girl and a sword that couldn't be analyzed."
"You didn't do anything to a real bunny girl?" Lana asked. "I say that is bullshit…"
"Don't lump me together with the likes of you, I don't have such weird preferences," Jake said.
"Yours is even weirder…" Lana said.
"Nobody asked you anything," Jake said.
"... Did they say anything to you?" Louise asked.
"What if they did? Would the taunts of losers like them change anything?" Jake asked. "They only spotted nonsense to make me fearful of them. Naturally, they failed miserably. They are so stupid that the bastard that was helping the boss didn't even try to attack me, he tried to run away with the bag girl."
"Bag girl…" Lana frowned.
After that, Louise explained what happened to the third world. The monsters took the member of the royal family of that world and a relic to the dungeon. After that, some explosion of dark energy happened, and the entire area around the dungeon disappeared, leaving only a massive hole behind."
"It seems that they did some sort of weird ritual…" Jake said. "They were planning to do that in three places at the same time… Still, since none of them was captured, we can't say what they were targeting. Since you guys are here, I can say that Frederick is lost as well…"
Louise and the others couldn't deny that. There were too many things that they didn't know, and they were busy with other things as well. That was another reason Jake wanted to stay away from guilds… too many things to do with close to no benefits. Things could go only well for them as long as they keep their heads in the clouds. Otherwise, sooner or later, they will realize that things couldn't be as simple as we are good, so we should do good things no matter what.
"Sir… can I ask you to show me how you fought the boss that invaded the castle?" Julian suddenly asked.
"I am not a sir, I am eighteen…" Jake said. "Besides, why would I do that? There is nothing for me on that."
"Ha? I am older than you and you have been all high and mighty all this time like you were older!" Lana said.
"Who cares about that?" Jake said. "I think you are a fool, therefore I treat you like a fool."
"How come every single word that you speak pisses me off so much?" Lan asked while clenching her fists.
"That is because you are a fool," Jake said. "By the way, that is one of the many skills that I take pride in having.
For a while longer, those two kept arguing, but eventually, Lana gave up since Jake was too tiresome to deal with.
