Chapter 256 Insistence (2)
Chapter 256 Insistence (2)
When the monster recovered, it began to attack Jake even more fiercely than before. The strikes made Jake and his body tremble all over. He needed some more extra time to recover thanks to that… Still, instead of attacking with the spear when Jake was pushed back a bit, the monster equipped the crossbow. That made him frown a bit...
"Oh no. You can't use that," Jake said and made his dark flames appear on the face of the monster again. "How the fuck can he move his head so fast?"
Jake couldn't believe that he had failed at making the eyes of the monster burn again. That was some crazy level of reaction speed… In any case, Jake prevented the monster from using the crossbow and used that chance to attack. The monster barely saw him approaching and used a one-handed thrust, but since its other eye was almost burning, the boss lost its session of depth and then missed. Jake considered chopping down one of the enemy's arms, but since his flames were on the face of the beast, he wouldn't be able to summon more on his sword that fast, so he went to the throat of the monster.
The sword pierced a few centimeters, but not enough to reach the artery. All of a sudden, the monster turned around, and Jake was hit by its tail. He felt like a truck suddenly hit. That bit had been too powerful and fast, and he was caught off guard. Not to mention, Jake landed on his face on the wall of the dungeon. He felt like half of his body had suddenly been crushed…
Despite that, Jake landed on his feet, and while the pain prevented him from thinking clearly, he still spat a lot of blood and looked at the boss with eyes full of hatred.
When the monster recovered from the damage of the flames, it pointed its crossbow toward Jake, but for a moment, the boss hesitated in attacking. Something about him had changed… Maybe it was only his eyes, but they sure made the boss feel uneasy. The monster couldn't understand that since Jake was so wounded…
Eventually, the monster pulled the trigger of the crossbow, and then dozens of Poisonous bolts flew toward Jake, but he just kicked the ground by using Explosive Touch to escape, but in the middle of the motion, he also used Flash toward the enemy. In the end, he found a clear path by doing that, and the beast didn't have time to swing its spear. Jake's sword hit the belly of the monster, but it didn't pierce much. However, he used Cyclone Strike and then Thunder Slash on the wound and increased its size. The blood that gushed from the wound was small in quantity, but it worked to strengthen Thunder Slash.
The boss recovered pretty soon and then tried to impale Jake's head. He blocked with his sword, and it was pushed backward for several meters, but while he was in the air, Jake created a wall of dark flames in front of him and then used Mana Blade on it. Before the boss could do anything, the combined attack of magic and dark flames hit his right arm and burned it while creating a wound in the shape of a line… The monster hissed in pain since the attack had been more powerful than any sword strike that Jake used.

"Forget about that, moron… Focus on the enemy in front of you," Jake thought.
The pain made Jake's senses get a lot sharper. That was why he tried to ignore the pain as much as possible and focused only on the enemy in front of him. Unfortunately, old habits die hard…
Despite the pain, the boss readied its spear when Jake approached to attack. The wound on the creature's arm wasn't deep enough to hinder such movements. Still, Jake moved while targeting that aside. Since the monster had the crossbow in one hand, the creature could only be so fast and strong while attacking… When Jake approached, the spear moved to his head. He slightly swung his sword and then bit the side of the weapon, parrying to the side.
Jake dodged that attack, but then the enemy pointed the crossbow at his head. The monster prepared for Jake to use the dark flames on its face, but Jake didn't do that. Instead of it, he created a wall of dark flames that blocked the projectiles when the boss pulled the trigger. The bolts were consumed by the dark flames, but they slowly decreased the size of the wall. However, before the wall could disappear, Jake swung his sword against the wall and made his Blade absorb the flames, and then he attacked the right arm of the monster. The beast grunted and trembled in pain when the Blade pierced some centimeters on the monster's flesh and also reached the muscles. Thanks to the flames, the muscles were severed, and the boss was unable to keep holding the weapon… the spear was dropped, and Jake grabbed it, but at the same time, he got smashed in the head with the massive hand of the monster, and the crossbow. Using the Poisonous weapon probably would have been more efficient, but the monster wanted to feel its hands smashing Jake's head.
Jake was knocked down and rolled to the ground after having his face hit the floor. Somehow, despite such a fierce attack and the damage that was received, Jake didn't drop the spear or his sword… He didn't fall unconscious, either. Even with his mouth and nose running a lot of blood, he got up ready to finish what he had started.
