Chapter 272 Alert (4)
Chapter 272 Alert (4)
"Oh? You guys cleared that dungeon as well. Even if Frederick helped, that still is impressive," Jake said while smiling.
"It almost sounds like you are mocking us since you did it by yourself," Lana said.
"It can't be helped. I am built differently, after all," Jake said.
"Putting that aside, Jake," Louise said. "Frederick said that the next mission will be different from the others and that you need some backup to avoid problems. That is why we are here."
Jake stopped to think for a while. Frederick was stupid enough not to give major details to those guys about the next mission for one reason or the other. Probably not to make them feel anxious… in any case, while Jake was thankful for their intentions, he could tell that Frederick still was aiming for something by going out of his way to help them and him at the same time. At that point in time, his dislike of that guy was almost reaching a pathological level... that was really troubling.
"I get it, but you guys are too exhausted, and the last mission also pushed me to the limit," Jake said. "So, we will spend the next two days resting."
"But tomorrow is…" Louise said.
"Yeah, that is why I am going to rest instead of going to fight in the next mission," Jake said. "I am not sure if that weird thing will happen, but we should be careful, just to be safe. Besides, I am pretty sure that the front lines will be empty with that happening."
They nodded since it made sense… Besides, they were truly tired, and they wanted to sleep for the rest of the week.
"Mister Jake, who are those monsters outside?" Julian asked.
"I am fucking eighteen… don't put the word mister in front of my name…" Jake said after a long sigh. "I got a magic item when I completed that quest, and I can summon them. I suppose you can have one of them."
They thought that Jake would let them choose one of those outsides, but Jake actually summoned them when they were at level one just for funsies. In any case, their reactions were pretty much the same.
"So… so cute!" Lana said while she buried her face in the fur of the puppy.
"They really are… it is quite shocking that they can grow that much," Louise said while blushing and looking in the eye of her puppy.
The kids were the ones who didn't know how to react much to the puppies. They didn't want to be seen like kids, so they tried to hide their thoughts. That was exactly what made them kids… Nevertheless, that will give them some extra fighting power when they join the frontlines, but the summons will need to eat to become a decent workforce. Jake explained that to them, and they frowned when they realized that the puppies would grow that much just by eating for a few days.
"Alright, we are going to return now," Lana said. "You should wait here for two days. We will come early in the morning, so you won't have any reason to complain. If you don't wait for us…"
"I think I am not going to sleep tonight out of fear," Jake said and then shrugged.
"You will get an earful, Jake," Louise said. "Don't you disappoint us with this?"
"The more you say that kind of stuff, the more I feel like I want to pull that kind of prank," Jake said. "I am that kind of guy, you know."
"Hah… let's get going," Lana said.
Jake promised them that he would wait, but he wasn't so certain of that. First of all, he felt that the guild masters were hiding something more. Not to mention, he had those weird dreams even before getting into the game… more specifically, he had the first dream when he got the helmet. So, it seemed a bit weird… He was going to decide things after tomorrow.
Regardless, Jake went to sell the feathers in the cities that he could visit. They were the ones near the undead Trent dungeon and of the rabbit people. The rabbit people like those quite a bit since the weather in their world was pretty harsh due to magic, but they frowned when they saw the vast amount of feathers, so Jake had to sell them to multiple people. Still, in the end, he got two thousand coins for that without dropping a single drop of blood.
"I feel a lot better since I got the Hydra's bloodline… the wound in my chest is decreasing in size and becoming a smaller scar," Jake thought. "I suppose that is one of the merits of having Augmented Recovery."
In any case, Jake returned to his home, and he kept working on the mana potions. He truly needed a way to use them automatically… it was too much of a pain to get them out of the magic boxes during the fights. After Jake finished making the potions, he ended up repairing his weapons. All that electricity ended up melting some parts of his gear, so he had to work for a while to fix everything.
"I really have a bad feeling about this..." Jake thought.
Although he sighed and took a deep breath many times, he failed to relax and fall asleep. He wasn't the type to worry about things, so that was the first time since pretty much forever that Jake had a hard time falling asleep. In the end, when he got tired of that shit, Jake smashed himself in the head with his shield and then fell asleep… or perhaps he got unconscious, which was more accurate. Nevertheless, that night, he had one of those dreams.
