Chapter 289 Cold World (1)
Chapter 289 Cold World (1)
That had been a lot easier than expected, perhaps too easy. Still, Jake had a direction now, and he could worry about things after heading there. In any case, during the whole time that Jake was moving away, the trolls kept their eyes on him. They sure were suspicious, but what it was weird was the fact that they weren't as violent as he had imagined.
When he had the chance, Jake climbed some trees and looked around to see if he was being followed, but he didn't see that. Maybe he was being paranoid since now some of his fellow humans were hunting him for the memories of those bodies that they had. Still, Jake didn't drop his guard while he advanced.
After half an hour, Jake finally found some traces of the salamanders in the snow. Considering their paws and the fact that he found four of them and a clear path, there was no mistake that one of them had passed been there. When Jake followed the traces, he eventually found even more footsteps on the snow. So, he gave the order for his crystal wolves to assemble.

It didn't take for Jake to find one of those, but he couldn't help but frown… their level of power was a lot higher than expected. In any case, Jake climbed another tree and then found that there was a high concentration of enemies ahead. All of them were frozen salamanders, and it seemed that they were around a particular mountain. That was good… He found the dungeon, most likely.
Sword and shield is a convenient way to fight, but Jake equipped his new axe because even though it was heavier, he felt more comfortable with that kind of style. Moreover, the salamanders were tougher, but their neck areas were as thin as the others that Jake faced, so it was the perfect way to deal with them.
Still, in a place like that, where the enemies were stronger than expected, Jake decided to pick a few of them at a time instead of challenging the whole group all at once. He had to get a good feel of their fighting style first before fighting like usual.
With that in mind, Instead of attacking that enemy, Jake began to walk around the area until he found an enemy far away enough from the main group. Once that happened, he charged at the creature.
With its wild instincts, the monster turned its neck to the side and then found Jake; instead of properly turning around, the monster just swung its tail toward Jake. He had planned to swing his axe and cut that off to make the enemy learn a lesson, but he raised his guard when the ice began to cover the tail.
Although the weapon and the tail collided, Jake was the one who was pushed backward. The impact even froze his hands a bit. That was definitely Frozen Strike… In any case, when Jake stopped moving, the monster bombarded him with Ice Arrows. Jake swung around his hammer to repel them, and while he succeeded, the attacks gave the creature enough time to approach and headbutted him…
Jake felt the air leaving his lungs while he was spinning in the air. Still, at that moment, he only felt thankful for the fact that he didn't attack the entire army of monsters before anything. Somehow, he landed on his two feet, but then the monster fired several Ice Spears.
With his ax, Jake also blocked them, and without any other choice, the frozen salamander charged once again while it opened its mouth and used Ice Breath. At that point in time, Jake had seen enough, and he was satisfied. There was no point in trying to block the attack with his ax.
Jake used Flash forward, and even though he moved so fast that he cut one of the monster's legs before the creature could see what had happened, he still took the ice breath directly, making the upper half of his body being covered by a thick layer of ice. Still, that didn't stop Jake from turning around and jumping to attack the enemy. He only felt that his balls were freezing…
The monster was trying to keep standing after losing one of its frontal legs, and thanks to that, it was unable to turn around fast enough, so Jake just swung his big ax as fast as he could and without holding back. The weapon easily beheaded the creature since he combined several skills.
? You received 150 coins.
Your recovery increased by two points.
Jake sighed in relief, but since he relaxed, the cold became even worse. He used Hot Blood and enhanced his willpower with Apollo's Blessing, and then things improved a bit. Nevertheless, he made a mental note to avoid Ice Breath as much as possible.
"Should I try to level my cold resistance in order to endure this faster?" Jake wondered while looking around. "If I try to level up Cold Immunity by using Master Thief on them, it will become even more efficient, but… perhaps I should train my mind to endure this whole mess."
Besides, Jake truly wanted to make Recovery increase as much as possible with that skill. Not only would let him use his skills more often, he also would recover from damage faster, and thus, but that would also increase his survivability. That being said, Jake was fully aware that he would need to stay in such place for longer periods since his strength wasn't increasing as fast as before… now that classes would be harder to get, that was even truer.
