Chapter 390 Epilogue - Continuous Changes
Chapter 390 Epilogue - Continuous Changes
In the end, with Leon's help, Jake obtained the powers of the enemy and used them to create a place the humans from his universe could live. A shit ton of mana was used to create a place that resembled their previous home, but Jake had the means to gather all that mana with the traits that he had.
Bringing back to life all of those people that died during the assimilation was kind of easy once Jake passed to their memories a part of the traits that he absorbed. Thanks to that, they also all knew what had happened in their previous life, and now they knew that they couldn't make the same mistakes…
In any case, once the plan was set in motion, Jake contacted those who survived the battle against the enemy and told them where they needed to go to find their fallen relatives and friends. It looked like the disasters of the previous universe had never happened. Still, only the humans had been that lucky, the other species that were decimated only had a few of their members that managed to come to the new universe.
Speaking of which, Jake asked Leon what they could do about Virgilius, but he explained to him that he didn't die. Leon said that he was quite interested in Virgilius, so he prevented the damage that would have killed him. After six months, he was back, and it was around that time that Jake and Leon finished their combined work.
"Our job is done, so we probably won't meet again unless you want to continue on this line of work," Leon said. "You will need to become stronger, though."
"Hell no, good grief," Jake said while he was watching the planet, he had chosen to work with. "Only a dumbass would work for free for strangers."
"It isn't for free, there are others like that guy out there and others with the potential to become troublemakers, so it is like preventing future problems for yourself," Leon explained.
"You must be one hell of a workaholic… if you defeated some of those guys, you already did more than your fair share of work," Jake said.
"One of my partners says that pretty often," Leon said. "Still, that is one of my purposes in life, so it can't be helped. I taught Virgilius how to contact me, so If you find your purpose in life and change your mind, you can ask him to contact me."
"Keep dreaming," Jake said.
"Why are you all always like that… always on edge," Leon said and then sighed. "Well, later. Talk with you soon, Virgilius."
"Best regards, Merlin," Virgilius said, and then Leon's magic hologram disappeared.
"Merlin? How old is that guy, and how old are you to use such weird codenames?" Jake asked.
"We determined that your codename is Shakespeare because you like to make too much drama out of things," Virgilius said.
"I will write a play where a smartass will end up like a blender," Jake said.
"You can choose a better codename then," Virgilius said.
"Leave me out of your nonsense," Jake said and then sighed.
In the end, Jake asked if Virgilius wanted a new body, but he didn't want one. He expected as much, and that was why Jake knew that Pride would fit him well… now, the only traits that Jake had were the power of his envy that he could control and the enemy's envy, which he still was learning how to control. Jake couldn't see a point in that, but he was forced to learn how to control that since he was becoming a magnet for mana… people felt dizzy around him, and Leon warned him that he would attract many enemies if he left that ability alone.
"It seems that the others are working around helping other planets that are being attacked. Morgan still is asking about you," Virgilius said. "Nightingale, Leonidas, Charlotte, and Medea also try to contact you now and then."
"You really are hooked with the codenames stuff… I already have lived two lifetimes' worth of fights. I don't need to keep fighting anymore…" Jake said and then sat down and yawned. "I will enjoy a good neet life now."
"And yet, you refuse to accept the title of the drama king," Virgilius said.
"I am going to take a power nap, so don't bother me, and don't let anyone bother me either," Jake said.
"Yes, commander," Virgilius said.
Although Jake said that, he had a hard time falling asleep. It wasn't like he did much physical labor while using the magic that Leon taught him to make that world a bit more convenient for humans… in any case, from the window of the spaceship, Jake already could see how they were changing that world. They were using more magic than anything since they lost their homes once and didn't want to lose another by destroying with their own hands.
Eventually, Jake fell asleep, wondering what he should do… thanks to the numerous traits that he got, he had enough time to heal his whole body. He couldn't just let it waste away without doing anything with the time he had ahead of himself. Still, it was hard to find any motivation now that he had defeated all of his enemies.
In any case, it was hard to say for how long he slept, but he woke up while hearing the cries of someone. Jake sighed… it seemed that Virgilius let someone come to the spaceship again, and someone who was noisy at that. When Jake turned around, he found the usual suspects and a new and small suspect. Lana, Louise, and Arilene had bought a toddler with them… it seemed to be a blond girl with pointy years. Lana was holding her, but she was crying.
"Congratulations? Who was the brave soldier who had balls harder than steel?" Jake asked.
"The hell are you saying? She isn't my daughter…" Lana said and then put the girl on the floor, and she began to crawl toward Jake.
The little girl stopped crying and moved toward Jake. He didn't know how to interact with newborn babies, and lately, he has been quite grumpy. So, Jake couldn't help but frown when the little girl stopped in front of him and kept looking at him.
"A staring contest, I see," Jake said.
"Sorry about that, Jake," Louise said. "She is always like that with strangers… I guess she is looking for her parents."
"No problem," Jake said.
"Jake like kids, after all," Lana said.
"You should word that better…" Jake glared at Lana. "That isn't completely true since I find you kind of annoying."
"I am older than you!" Lana protested.
"Speaking of kids, where are Karina and Julian?" Jake asked.
"They were here a minute ago, and I guess they are exploring the ship," Arilene said.
They are exploring something, but it certainly isn't the ship. Jake could confirm that with Virgilius, but the life of horny teens wasn't his problem.
"So, where did you find this one here?" Jake asked.
"Myrna asked us to help some small tribes of elves that had been on the run for a while since they are kind of weak physically… we helped some of them, but one of them was decimated by drakes. We found her in the arms of her mother, but she was… despite the situation, the little one survived, and we felt like our encounter was destined," Louise replied with her head down.
"We tried to give her to the other elves, but they have a strong sense of duty toward those that have their blood," Lana explained. "They don't raise people of other tribes… assholes. They were planning to abandon her if they had to, even though we saved their lives…"
"Are you guys seriously thinking of raising her?" Jake asked. "You are a queen, right? Why don't you quit this job and raise her?"
"I abandoned my duty as the queen of my homeland… there are more important things to do. There are many more enemies out there spreading destruction," Arilene replied.
"I see. You want to become Xena," Jake said.
"Who is Xena?" Arilene asked.
"... What is her name?" Jake asked after a long sigh.
As if the little girl had understood the question, she patted Jake's knee before approaching him and then climbing him. She wasn't supposed to be even six months old, but she sure could crawl quite well… in the blink of an eye, she was standing on his lap and trying to hug him.
"Sorry, kid, but I am not your father," Jake said.
"Why don't you name her Jake?" Louise asked.
"You guys are unbelievable. You decide to take the kid when you only do dangerous jobs, and you didn't even have a proper name for her?" Jake asked.
"I think it is too much responsibility for me…" Lana said.
"And you want to make me responsible for her by being something like her godfather?" Jake asked while he was looking at the elf girl trying to hug him, or maybe she wanted to sleep in his arms. "I am currently a NEET, so you really have low standards. In any case, this girl is a hugger, huh? I thought that she disliked flatchested girls like Lana, but I guess I was wrong."
"I am not flat-chested, and they are low on fat, that is all," Lana protested. "Anyway, she really liked Louise's chest, I guess it was comfortable, but she also seems to like yours, but she disliked Julian's chest."
Jake had a hard time dealing with the little elf girl, his arms were basically weapons made to destroy things, and only recently, he began to control his draining powers while he was awake. Still, it looked like the little girl truly thought that he was her father, so he ended up hugging her back. She quickly fell asleep, and he let her rest in his arms.
"So warm and so frail…" Jake thought while feeling his heart tightening. "I guess I can understand a little why Leon keeps working and doing what he does."
"Are your powers under control already?" Louise asked. "I don't feel my mana being drained anymore."
"While I am awake, it is fine…" Jake replied and then turned around. "Her name will be Amanda."
"It is a good name… it means that she will be loved," Lana said. "Not bad, Jake."
"I thought that an elf name would be more appropriate, but I guess it is fine," Arilene said.
"Right… we need to give her food now, don't let her sleep, Jake," Louise said while she was approaching.
"Don't come now… just give me five minutes," Jake said, having a hard time not sniffing.
"All right…" Louise said.
Jake had never heard the name of his mother, but he always thought that was her name. He felt it in his heart. And since the little elf girl made his heart feel the same way he recalled her, he decided to give her that name, and because he felt a supernatural connection with her… then, he became her father.
