As expected, Kobolds were even stronger than the Hard Scorpions. Even Jake would have a hard time against them in a one-on-one battle since they were obviously physically stronger. Still, their are other ways to win a battle without having to rely on brute strength alone.

Kobolds were essentially creatures that were between dogs and wolfs. Their fur was dark grey and they also could walk and run like humanoid creatures. That was why they could use so many different weapons. Swords, spears, axes, crossbows… it was crazy how versatile and dexterous those creatures were, no wonder the orcs never had a chance against them. However, because of that, they felt like they didn't need tactics, they were just charging toward the village like mad dogs. Jake prepared to dash at them, but Louise stopped him.

"Wait…" Louise said. "You should focus on fighting the ones armed with crossbows. It seems they have some rapid-fire mechanism, so they can cause a lot of damage to us. Defeat them and throw their weapons to our side."

That seemed a bit too much… how the hell Jake would find time to do that in the middle of the battlefield while surrounded by enemies. It was obvious that with his appearance compared to the orcs, he will stand out like a sore thumb.

"I will see what I can do," Jake replied.

In the end, Louise made everyone wait until the Kobolds were one hundred meters away from the village. Their numbers were close to five hundred, so they were outnumbered five to one. Given that, it didn't seem like a good idea to waste time like that, but soon Jake realized that she was considering the range of Lana's healing.

"Now!" Louise shouted.

Jake and the orcs finally dashed toward the enemy. Jake was the first one to arrive since he used Dash to surprise the enemies. His first target was armed with a sword, but before the creature could raise it to block the strike, Jake pierced its throat with his katana. The creature resisted for a short while, but then Jake finished it off with his Bash. The other Kobolds looked surprised and thanks to that, the orcs had the chance to get some of them by surprise.

While he wanted to see what the enemies could do, Jake had no time to pick them up. He already could feel the gaze of some Kobolds armed with crossbows on him. After finding one of them preparing to aim the weapon toward his direction, Jake used Mana Blade on the creature's face. The Kobold suffered critical damage and even lost its sight and then Jake used that chance to finish him off, with another thrust on its throat.

Just as Louise asked, Jake picked the crossbow, but he barely had time to check it since he noticed two crossbows armed with axes running toward him. They were even taller than him, so it was obvious that their strength would be massive. Jake tossed the weapon toward the allies' side and when the kobolds raised their axes to strike, Jake used Cyclone Strike and cut both of their wrists. The monsters began to bleed and slowly began to lose their strength. Before others could get in the way, Jake used Bash and made his katana pierce their throats in quick succession.

"Hmm… isn't this weird?" Jake thought.

Now that he thought about it, Jake was pretty quick to react in aim at the throat of humanoid enemies. It was quite weird since he didn't consider that… was it because of his instincts? It was a bit weird considering he was inside a game. Nevertheless, Jake saw other enemies trying to surround him, but he picked one of the axes and activated Throw. The weapon flew in a straight line toward one of them, and while the Kobold tried to block the attack with its sword, the ax easily destroyed it, but unfortunately, thanks to that, only the cable of the weapon hit the target. The kobold was knocked down senseless, but the creature didn't die.

Three other Kobolds tried to surround Jake, but then he had an idea… he extended his arms to make sure the range of his attack would be as big as possible and then activated Cyclone Strike. While he used it only on his katana, he spun around himself and made the scabbard also hit the enemies. While Jake didn't kill any of them, he wounded them deeply and he also realized that Lesser Vampirism was activated with the hits of both weapons. It is a pretty good way to recover health, but it costs some stamina…

Before Jake could finish off those enemies, some orcs appeared and did that for him. At least he gained his coins… Nevertheless, he thought that he had advanced too much, but it seemed that the orcs were able to keep up with him. Still, that moment of surprise cost Jake a little… he felt a sharp pain in his back and then he noticed that a bolt had pierced his breastplate. He threw himself to the side and dodged the other bolts and then found his target.

The Kobold tried to hit Jake again, but while he ran toward the target, he blocked the projectiles with his scabbard and katana. It was quite something that he could react to those, but it was probably because while the crossbows could fire pretty fast, their quality wasn't high. In the end, Jake got close enough and sliced the enemies' throats with his weapon.
