Chapter 36
C36 – Some Thoughts of the Elfin
Human strength can sometimes be depleted.
Wen Huaimu, after all, was merely a novice newly acquainted with magic. Despite the assistance of a formidable Devil Spirit, his body was not akin to that of the Spirit’s. It wasn’t long before the magic his body could contain hit the ceiling for his current physical stage. His magic capacity remained at the pinnacle of an elementary elf, unable to draw in any additional Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth.
Wen Huaimu was taken aback, then sighed in resignation. His ambition had gotten the better of him, as he aspired to attain the prowess of an intermediate elfin directly. It became clear that magic training was a gradual process, with no shortcuts to be found.
Yet, while his magic had plateaued, his psychic force knew no bounds. He harnessed the Devil Spirit to channel the Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth into the ring he wielded, while the Spirit seized this chance to bolster its own psychic force with the same energy.
Simultaneously, he could use the Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth to purify and fortify his body’s various functions.
In ancient times, Innate Warriors would draw upon the Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth to reinforce their bodies, seeking greater strength. This ability was exclusive to Innate Warriors. Acquired Realm warriors, no matter their might, were unable to tap into this energy due to the finite nature of their bodies. Their psychic force was incapable of extending beyond the physical form to commune with the cosmos. At best, they could only perceive the Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth and employ breathwork for the most basic enhancement.
Wen Huaimu spent the night in cultivation. He recognized the immense benefits the Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth had on his physique and was not about to squander such an opportunity. The vigorous Spirit Energy coursed through him, refining each sinew and bone. His body grew more agile and supple, his physical functions increasingly robust.
The molding ring, however, was not subject to these constraints. It could endlessly absorb vast amounts of energy, converting it into a torrent of magic that infused the elfin’s form, transforming her.
In that moment, the elfin’s transformation accelerated dramatically due to the substantial energy supply. A rich fire element shrouded the elfin, obscuring the transformative process from view.
Time slipped by silently, and the sun ascended to its zenith. Wen Huaimu snapped out of his deep focus, feeling invigorated. His limbs were relaxed, and his entire body seemed to have been remolded.
A touch of surprise flickered in his heart, but his primary purpose here was for the elfin. Sensing that the elfin had likely reached the accelerated phase of molding, he refrained from interrupting her. Instead, he took out some food and began his meal.
Being mortal, he couldn’t subsist on the Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth alone. He wondered how the ancients who practiced inedia managed it, a concept he found both baffling and admirable.
Meal finished, Wen Huaimu stood up and strolled around, taking in the breathtaking vistas of Deadwick.
Having reached his training threshold, he no longer needed to constantly draw upon the Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth. Besides, the deep gorge was rich with an unending flow of this energy, allowing him to explore without concern of depleting it.
He followed the gorge, pressing on without a clear destination, relying on his instincts to gauge that east lay ahead. The forest thickened around him, moss blanketing the ground, exuding an ancient vibe that spoke of the land’s untouched origins.
Wen Huaimu, emboldened by his considerable skills, feared no ferocious beasts. His magic had surged dramatically, and his psychic force was at its peak. He could wield various spells with ease, sparing little thought for the lesser beasts that lurked.
Venturing deeper, he reached a section of the forest where the vitality seemed even more potent. To his astonishment, he stumbled upon human traces!
But they were not truly human footprints; rather, they were remnants of a campsite.
Wen Huaimu was taken aback. This area, while not the innermost reaches of Deadwick, was far from a regular tourist spot. Few would dare to venture here.
Driven by curiosity, he moved closer to investigate, his interest mounting.
The litter scattered on the ground suggested the campsite had been deserted no more than two days prior. It was highly probable that the group was still within Deadwick. Were they merely naive children, or malevolent individuals with hidden agendas?
Wen Huaimu’s psychic force radiated outward, straining to detect the pulsations of the Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth.
Before long, a shift in his expression indicated a discovery. He turned his gaze northeast, where a faint trace of human scent lingered. The group had taken that direction.
Pausing briefly to deliberate, Wen Huaimu set off with determined strides toward the northeast. Intrigued by their boldness in venturing deep into Deadwick, he was eager to uncover the identity of these daring individuals.
As he surveyed the area with confidence, he confirmed the group’s northeastern trajectory. Their pace seemed leisurely; the path was littered with signs of their passage, including numerous damaged plants, possibly taken as they moved.
The afternoon waned, the sun’s heat diminishing from its noonday intensity. The western sky blushed with the red hues of sunset.
At this juncture, Wen Huaimu halted his pursuit, having stumbled upon another campsite. The warmth still emanating from the embers told him the group had camped there the previous night.
With the distance between them relatively short, Wen Huaimu felt no urgency to continue the chase. His curiosity about the group was tempered by the lack of necessity to seek them out. His attention was now required elsewhere; the elfin’s molding process had reached a pivotal phase, demanding his full concentration.
Selecting a spacious stone as his seat, Wen Huaimu unleashed his Mental Detection Magic, vigilant of any activity within a 350-meter radius.
Simultaneously, he employed his psychic force to keep a close watch on the elfin’s development.
Though the elfin was but in her elementary stage, she held a place in his heart akin to that of his parents, warranting his undivided attention.
Within the Crystal Cabinet of the molding ring, the fire element churned with intensity—a harbinger of the molding’s imminent completion.
After a full day of drawing in the Spirit Energy of Heaven and Earth, the elfin was on the cusp of evolving from an elementary to an intermediate being.
Inside the Crystal Cabinet, the elfin seemed to sense the significance of the moment and began enacting her plan.
Outside, Wen Huaimu could not perceive the fire element’s transformation within the cabinet, leaving him to wait with bated breath.
Coldy appeared quite sensitive; her red mechanical eyes flickered briefly, yet she remained silent. The elfin’s subtle movements didn’t interfere with the molding process, so Coldy simply disregarded them.
The fire element’s activity within the Crystal Cabinet reached a crescendo, churning like waves and compressing into tiny sparks, causing the cabinet to shimmer continuously.
Wen Huaimu was astounded. The elfin’s evolution was truly a sight to behold.
Abruptly, the tumultuous fire element rushed into the elfin’s body at a visible pace. In an instant, the elfin had absorbed all the fire element from the Crystal Cabinet.
At that precise moment, the elfin opened her eyes.
“Has the elfin completed her evolution?” Wen Huaimu asked, brimming with excitement.
“Yes, she has,” Coldy confirmed, unsurprised.
“That’s wonderful. Diaochan, how are you feeling?” Wen Huaimu inquired with enthusiasm.
The elfin glanced around, her wings fluttering gently, lifting her into a graceful, airborne dance. She radiated elegance and beauty.
“I’ve become an intermediate elfin, and it feels amazing,” the elfin declared, her magic enhanced and her smile radiant.
Wen Huaimu, delighted, nodded emphatically and observed the elfin closely.
The transformation was significant; though her height remained the same, she now looked much more mature, and her figure had become strikingly pronounced.
Wen Huaimu felt a peculiar sense of wonder as he gazed at the elfin.
Diaochan, having already scrutinized her new appearance, caught Wen Huaimu’s awestruck look and boasted with pride, “My figure is quite impressive, isn’t it?”
Indeed, the elfin’s captivating form had Wen Huaimu utterly enchanted.
Beaming with pride, the elfin’s smile bloomed like a radiant flower. She inwardly congratulated herself on her cleverness. Thankfully, she hadn’t forgotten to make a few subtle tweaks during her advancement. Her changes were evidently a resounding success, as her beauty had Wen Huaimu thoroughly captivated.
