Chapter 275 A Completely Different Direction 8
"I could have confronted her, I could have confronted—and yet I didn't." Lukas said to himself when he left the hallway and navigated to the given room to him.
There was an itch, a burning sensation to just go ahead and lay down everything and point a finger in Heloise's face.
But things were a little complicated.
"I wish it was as clear cut as that giant sand worm. You just go and stab it with a dagger and be done with it," Lukas said as he finally reached the room.
Even though everything was dark and pitch black, no candles to light his way, it hadn't actually bothered Lukas—even appreciated it in his own way.
All of Lukas muttering and mumbling finally came to an end when he saw Chaerin asleep in the bed. Out of everything that happened today, she was asleep and clueless of it all.
Should he have been upset that she didn't know? That she hadn't gone come looking for him and probably believed Heloise when she said that he was going to be gone for days?
Maybe.
But instead of that, all his body wanted to do was move towards the bed and lay down beside Chaerin. And so he did.
Nestling down the bed and then wrapping his arms around the sleeping girl… a flurry of thoughts made its way to Lukas' mind.
"Chocolate." Lukas murmured.
When he entered the dream world of Chaerin, one of the earliest memory that he'd seen was of the young girl and her family sharing what appeared to be hot chocolate.
Unless it was brown blood—which was kind of an ick in Lukas' opinion. However, it meant something. Humans.
The revelation that the 'Vampires' he was dealing with today were not all full blooded was something worth going on about and something he should have confronted Heloise about… but what would it led him?
"I'd have ended up in jail or somewhere even worse." Lukas murmured.
There was also a chance that people didn't know?
Well, they really didn't even know in the first place.
These people whom Lukas encountered were unaware and simply thought themselves as ordinary Vampire, but if there was anyone who should at least know a bit of something then it had to be the Overlords.
Was it a well-kept and guarded secret?
It had to be.
And why was it?
If they were Dhampirs and lesser Vampires mixed in with human blood and they still got their blood source from humans—it was almost hypocritical?
"Ugh, this is all a headache." Lukas turned to his back and rested an arm over his eyes. "It's not really my responsibility to deal with such things, right?"
Of course it wasn't, but the fact remained that he ended up getting involved one way or another.
Was there a chance that… it would get discovered?
Lukas thought about Matthew, the now fully pledged Vampire and that he was in the hospital. Or maybe he wasn't?
"I mean he's got the ally of one of those Argenti people. It's like he's a Main Character with a supporting cast of people…"
A smile wounded up on Lukas' face. It was a silly thought that struck him about the folks that he encountered.
It was easy to truly categorize individuals.
Put them in a box and stick a label and consider it a done deal—it was convenient and it probably worked a significant portion of the time.
Honestly, it was just relieving knowing how people tick or not and have them acting in certain ways that made Lukas less uneasy and unnerved by it all.
But Lukas had already kind of learned that it wasn't all black or white… so the same should apply to Heloise Carmilla?
Yes, but also no.
"Nah. If I can't make any decisions in this life, then I'd just wound up being stuck in a place and not moving forward." Lukas murmured to himself.
Indecisiveness was the root of all his evil?
Or was it hastiness?
"I need more information, but it's not like I can truly gather it all… wait a second, hey." Lukas whispered underneath his breath. "Analyze? Potential Allies?"

…
…
"Dang it." Lukas groaned a little and stared up at the ceiling. He was hoping that the System would help him make the decision on whether or not Heloise was trustworthy.
But just because someone was a potential ally or an unlikely one didn't really mean much in the long run.
People were willing to work with you as long as it benefited them…
"I mean, all of this issues can easily be resolved if I just befriended every single one of them." Lukas said with a tired grin. It wasn't a satisfying outcome.
It went against Lukas' idea of finally making a decision and not being indecisive… but the truth of the situation was that the future was uncertain and him trying to get a clear cut answer on what or who was going to aid him was a headache and a half.
"Mmmm…" Chaerin turned and tossed a little in the bed. She shifted and became slightly uncomfortable, but then relaxed and pressed her back against his chest.
"The same thing I did with Chaerin and Lily…?" Lukas muttered softly. "Work with everyone and hope it all works out for the best?"
It almost seemed like a naive thing.
"You can't be friends with everyone, Lukas." He whispered to himself. "It'll make everyone just see you as someone trying to ingratiate yourself with everyone… or it being a tactical move. Heck, it's what the Carmillas are doing in a way and now you're going to play their own game too?"
Only silence answered him, no quips from Drusilla and only the quiet snore from Chaerin.
"Yeah, I'm going to get shut eye first."
