Chapter 169 - Excalibur
Chapter 169 - Excalibur
-----
Excalibur, the legendary holy blade once wielded by the legendary figure, King Arthur, was now of Noah's property after a series of insane turns of events.
It resulted that Arthur's family were the descendants of King Arthur himself, although Arthur could have never guessed that as he did not even have the Pendragon surname…
From the memories of Merlin and the Lady of the Lake, Noah got to learn many things about the old world, alongside the truth about some things, such as the existence of "God".
God, the divine entity that existed within the heavens, was an entity that really existed, and it was the one that created the Lady of the Lake, a divine herald that would give Arthur the legendary sword Excalibur, made by the wishes of all humanity and forged within Earth's core into an indestructible artifact.
It also resulted that such a weapon was not just given to Arthur to unify Britain but also slay the monstrous demons and creatures that once roamed there in large quantities, Vampires, Werewolves, Imps, Demons, Ogres, Fae, and all types of accursed and monstrous creatures which had overpopulated such a place in the past, making of humans their playthings.
Arthur Pendragon was given the task to defeat these monsters and also their leaders, the strongest Progenitors of the past, Vampire Progenitors, Werewolf Alphas, Arch-Demons, and Giants.
Indeed… history hid all of this behind a "tale", but Arthur not only helped Britain but also explored the rest of the world alongside Merlin, defeating many of the evils that spread all around Europe and even Asia.
The history behind Excalibur was deep, and the blade itself was nourished by the blood and souls of many evils, growing stronger exponentially.
However, even King Arthur was a human, and as his lifespan ended, he died while being surrounded by his beloved ones.
Excalibur then carried on the legacy of his original wielder, being inherited by his descendants, many secret heroes across the history of the world, which saved humanity from the many evils that spread behind the façade of normal society.
After many years, it ended in the hands of Arthur's grandfather, a long descendant of King Arthur.
Arthur's Grandfather was a masterful Necromancer who had forged his power through the technique of magic inheritance.
A technique created by Merlin long ago for the branch of King Arthur's descendants who wished to revive Merlin and King Arthur, training magic, and delving into the dark arts of Necromancy.
After inheriting such power over many generations, Arthur's Grandfather was the strongest descendant, the result of many years of stockpiling magic power and knowledge and proficiency over the dark arts of Necromancy.
Using his powers, he revived Merlin as a skeleton but was unable to bring back King Arthur, whose soul was already reincarnated multiple times, his memories long lost.
However, Arthur's Grandfather used the sword and his powers to slay evil in name of his Ancestor and survived the cataclysmic event of the Apocalypse, saving his family from this insane world with his powers.
Although as he grew older, he sooner or later became weakened, and his powers began to weaken.
And then, he decided to leave Excalibur with Merlin, sealing them both inside a large hall he built within Arthur's Family residence, for his grandson to one day inherit all of this power and the legendary blade, so he could save the world from the rampant evil that had once more emerged.
Like this, many events led to others and… Noah acquired all the benefits for himself.
Quite ironic that an "evil being" such as a Vampire like Noah ended wielding Excalibur, while eating Merlin and the Lady of the Lake's souls, even.
It was so hilarious that Noah could not help but laugh a little bit…
Now all of such legacy was his!
And it was not as if he stole it from Arthur, as he really did not want to wield a sword anyway, so Noah happily accepted his offering.
Noah could not really imagine what would Arthur's grandfather even think about all of this… but he was sure that he might be kicking his grave out of anger at this point.
But it was not as if Noah cared at all.
Legacies? Legends? Ancient Artifact that should only be wielded by a specific Bloodline?
Noah did not care at all, he took everything for himself.
The sword did not want him to wield it, so he ate it from the inside out and become the sword himself, as simple as that.
…It could be said that he was now the bone of his sword.
Noah admired the blade hovering in midair at his side, which had been "tainted" in black and crimson colors, although its metallic and shining luster was still there, the blade now exuded an aura of demonic and monstrous strength.
Noah quickly realized that part of such "sealed power" was hidden within this blade itself, and as he kept growing stronger, the blade itself would also unlock more of these powers.
It was, more or less, the ultimate Soul Weapon!
Noah grabbed the blade's handle and admired its beauty while smiling triumphantly.
He was sure to put good use to this powerful tool.
After glancing at the sword for a while, Noah inspected the next new Skill he had acquired.
[Soul Devour: 1 (A)]
You have the power to devour souls and assimilate their energy into your own soul, merging both together.
Strong enough souls or high-quality souls can be eaten to acquire new power, attribute values, Skill Points, and more.
This Skill consequently also gives you the power to break souls.
This Skill can be used alongside other Skills, acquiring the ability to directly target an enemy soul through the materialize of your own, however, depending on the foe's soul's strength and other abilities, this damage can be lowered or completely negated until the foe is weakened enough.
…
This was the Skill Noah used to devour Merlin and the Lady of the Lake Souls and acquire such a wonderful amount of power.
It seemed that he already possessed the innate ability to do this after his soul evolved and broke apart as he used it as a weapon, and perhaps the Spawn of Azathoth gave him this ability as well, however, Noah was not completely sure where this ability originally came from, but only that he developed it as he fought and evolved it when he desperately fought against The Lady of the Lake.
And when he finally devoured them, the System quickly converted such power into a Skill which he could easily use to unleash this innate ability within him.
Noah could not help but imagine what it could be to devour the souls of strong hunters or monsters.
Although he would also have to decide between devouring them or making them Blood Servants.
However, it seemed that only specific souls which were strong enough could give him any type of actual power… but this was good enough to break them and deal direct damage.
Now Noah had many tools to fight and develop even further.
However, there were still many things he needed to assess first, such as his newly awakened Skills.
Many of the old Skills had awakened into new ones, and he felt curious about their new effects, although many of them seemed to only have enhanced their original effects, some of them held new ones after awakening.
