Chapter 104 - Grief
Chapter 104 - Grief
Rui Fei clenched his fist with his eyes reddening from the emotions threatening to spill out. "She died when I was born..... how do you know her name?" he asked. Even he didn't know his mother's name but this man just told him her name. Who and what was he to his mother?
The Nocru suddenly broke down wailing like he had lost a relative. His story was that of unending joy but ever since he stepped into this world he had been treated like a beast sentenced to be locked up for the rest of his life and now his twin sister was dead. That joyful sweet girl who was kind to everyone had died and he failed to protect her. How could he not break down after that news?
The Huishe clan was extremely protective of their mothers, sisters and wives and Huishe Xiyue was no exception. In fact, she was even more protected because their father was the clan leader and if anything happened to her the entire clan would go to war. She was smart and beautiful with a charismatic personality.
When she came of age their father didn't force her to find a spouse because he truly believed no one was deserving of her. Only the person who could win her affection could approach him with a marriage proposal.
Huishe Xiyue was a simple girl. She told her father that he could pick the kindest Huishe he liked and she would marry him only after she had travelled across Niuq and see the world before settling down. The clan leader had always given her anything she asked for but this request was a little too much for him.
In the end, he was forced to agree but his twin brother was to accompany her in her journey for her father's peace of mind. After being warned countless times to never let Huishe Xiyue out of his sight, the two embarked on an adventure.
The two of them travelled all over Niuq and the trip was rather exciting up until they reached a small town called Crystal Plume. While he was asleep his twin sister snuck out to the market. She knew she wasn't supposed to go out on her own but nothing serious had happened so far. Thinking she could go to the market quickly and come back she left.
He was woken up by a huge commotion and an earthquake shaking the ground. Worried for his sister he called her name but when he checked her bed it was empty. Just like that, she was gone. He ran to the door only to find half the inn was gone and a huge black hole that span as far as the eye could see was right in front of him.
Thinking his sister must have fallen in this mysterious black hole he decided to go in and find her as it was closing. He had no idea what to expect but he took that leap hoping to find her.
The next thing he remembered was waking up in a different world far from what Niuq had to offer. The sky was blue with patches of fluffy clouds. This was a far contrast to Niuq's dark gloomy skies.
He was in the middle of a forest with a gash on the left side of his abdomen. His aether had been damaged as well probably from the portal he had jumped into at the last minute.
He wondered for a very long time looking for a way out of the desolate forest and find his sister. But as he tracked the land he was met with misfortune as they say enemies are bound to meet on a narrow road. He had never met this Nocru but because he was a Qilin this didn't go down well.
Unfortunately for him, he was defeated mainly because of his injuries and latrion pills were forced down his throat and absorbed into his aether and aetherial veins. When he woke up he was in this place surrounded by talismans and a stupid necklace. Who that Qilin was remained a mystery but that wasn't what concerned him.
He was worried for his sister and so he tried everything to get out of this place. After years and years of trying he failed and his mental health began to collapse. In essence, he lost his mind and went crazy.
Huishe were naturally aggressive which meant with the perfect conditions they would lose themselves explaining this man's psychotic behaviour.
Now that he had heard his sister was dead something snapped within him as he wailed like a broken man. He had failed to do the one thing his father asked him to do and let his sister die. He lay limply on the ground the pain tearing his insides apart.
Rui Fei just stood there not sure how to feel. The mother he had dreamt of but could never see her face had some kind of relation to this man. He never thought he would find someone who had an idea of who or what his mother was. He truly believed that in this world he would never know anything about his maternal side.
One can only imagine how he felt when this Nocru mentioned her. "Who are you?" he finally asked in a shaky voice after swallowing down his emotions.
The man quieted down as he stared at him blankly. This cub bore so much resemblance to his sister all except the eyes. Those eyes must have been from his father's side. "Was your father nice to her?" he said thinking if she met a lovely man and started a family then he could at least face his ancestors with no shame. Rui Fei's breath stagnated as he lowered his head and shut his eyes in anguish.
There was no need for him to explain anything. The Nocru instantly knew his sister had a terrible life in his absence. His gaze suddenly fell on Ji Yao and the look of grief was replaced by a look of hostility. He immediately got up intending to slain the sleeping Qilin cub.
He might not be the one that locked him up or brought this tragedy upon his sister but they were the same. It was better if he cut off this weed before it grew roots and wreaked havoc on the rest of the world.
But just as he got up Rui Fei stood in front of him blocking his path. Frustrated the man yelled, "It's his kind that killed my sister! Why are you defending him? They all must die!" with the veins on his neck protruding.
"You can't touch him... he is mine!"
