Chapter 370 - No Way Out

Chapter 370 - No Way Out

Ji Yao felt his blood run cold as he stared at Rui Fei who was trying to stabilise himself as the ground shook. The middle-aged man stood beside him observing the change in expression on Ji Yao's face with obvious curiosity.

That's when he noticed something unusual in Ji Yao's eyes as his gaze lingered on a particular person. How could he not discern this feeling? He had the exact same look in his eyes when he first met his wife. Whenever he laid eyes on her his pupils would blossom like a lotus flower at dawn.

He loved her so much that his eyes were only on her but what did he get in the end. A look of disgust each time he got close. How could one tolerate being treated like that by their white moonlight?

So when he saw that look in Ji Yao's eyes he immediately began to look for the person who had stirred this young man's heart. When he did find that person he almost got the shock of his life. Not only was it a boy but he was also a Huishe and from the looks of it he wasn't ordinary.

This revelation almost made him laugh out loud. What else did he expect from Qilin Hao's offspring? He was just as disappointing as her. He couldn't help but want to see Huishe Nan's reaction when he finds out his descendant was seduced by his Qilin grandson. Of course, at this time he hadn't realized yet that that Huishe cub was his enemy's direct descendant.

Qilin San waved his hand and the image dissipated. He turned around and pointed at the stone slab before saying, "You have no way out. The only way any of you are getting out of this place is if you complete the sequence," in a domineering tone with his hand behind his back.

Ji Yao who was shocked beyond words stood there motionless for a minute. He couldn't believe Rui Fei had followed him here. Yes, it showed how much his cub loved him but he didn't want the kid to put himself in harm's way for the sake of saving him. He would have prefered it if Rui Fei had stayed on the surface where he would be safe.

An overwhelming feeling of anxiety washed over him when he recalled the look of distress in Rui Fei's eyes. Taking a step forward to go and rescue Rui Fei he heard his grandfather say, "It's s pointless... that guardian was brought to fruition by the most powerful Qilin ancestor who created the Keystone and this place. This means that no matter how powerful that Huishe is he will die."

Qilin San's words brought Ji Yao's steps to a halt. Clenching his jaw as his eyes reddened he turned his heel with an ugly expression. His lips twitched as a result of his restrained feelings. He glared at Qilin San but his expression had little to no effect on the much calmer older man.

Qilin San had his back to him with his gaze lingering on his fingertips that he was lightly rubbing with a blank expression. Ji Yao had no other choice but to do as asked. He vowed to beat this grandpa of his once they get out of here.

In large strides, he took out the keystones and began to study one of the pillars with a hint of urgency. As soon as he placed the first one a bright light spread from the pillar to the ground and formed a straight line on the stone slab stopping at the centre.

As soon as this happened the rift between the two worlds reacted with a slight crack. Both Qilin San and Ji Yao looked up and saw the magnificent crack glimmering with a pink light illuminating the entire forest. It seemed whatever he was doing was working.

They weren't the only ones mesmerised by the strange occurrence in the sky. While the concord members were attempting to subdue the guardian entirely made of sand a crack appeared in the sky followed by a thunderous roar shaking the entire ground. The creature that had been toying with the intruders trying to drown them in sand suddenly halted its actions.

Part of the sand that formed one of its limbs suddenly disintegrated and it could no longer control that sand anymore. The guardian growled like death was upon it.

It tried to grab the sand but it was pointless. Shifting its gaze towards the one place that could cause this it immediately rushed over in that direction ignoring the people it was fighting with.

"Don't let it escape!" yelled Qilin Hao as she had a sneaky suspicion of what was happening. Her father had once told her that once she reaches the world between worlds she should limit her use of seraphic energy lest she wakes up the guardian. Of course, she knew her son wasn't aware of it and might have mistakenly done this.

She didn't blame him for it and could only prevent the creature from reaching him while he is still placing the keystones in their right place.

Rui Fei directly flew past the creature and stopped midair a few feet ahead releasing grey appendages that struck at the guardian like razor-sharp knives. But each part he cut off more sand replaced it and the creature regenerated its limbs.

Annoyed with this hindrance the creature shot out a claw of sand and punched Rui Fei in the chest sending him flying a few feet. Seeing this Huishe Yue transformed and began to push back the guardian. If anything happened to Rui Fei then he might as well forget going back to Niuq and rejoining his clan. His father would undoubtedly disown him.

Meanwhile, Rui Fei directly landed in the sea of sand with his entire body buried underneath. When he dug himself out he coughed up a mouthful of blood mixed in with sand. He spat out the blood as he clutched his chest that had taken a big hit.

His pride had taken a major blow right in front of the people he wanted to prove to that he was worthy of Ji Yao no matter the differences between their clans. Fearing they would view him as weak he ignored the discomfort in his chest and got up to his feet.

In the distance, he could see the cloud of dust rising to the skies as the creature fought hard to get rid of the hindrance on its path. He was about to take a step forward and assist when a thought crossed his mind.

Before the creature was basically toying with them but after those cracks appeared in the sky it lost its ability to control some of the sand. Then its direction of attack changed and it frantically dashed in the opposite path.

Clenching his fist he looked at the creature then turned his head to glance behind him. His heart suddenly skipped a beat as an involuntary smile appeared on his face.. Ji Yao had to be in that direction and if he kept going that way he would find him.
