Chapter 402 – Wild Goose Chase
Ji Yao who had no idea that he had been sent on a wild goose chase had sailed for a good three days across the sea. His destination was a small port city four hundred kilometres away from the point in the sea where the portal was suspected to open next.
Before reaching this port city he had anchored at this place where the world between worlds should be. He could sense something within the depths so he didn't suspect anything.
Since it was basically confirmed he set off for the port city. For the next months or possibly a year they would be squatting here waiting for the time the floodgates reopen.
This small town known as Binan Suo was relatively isolated with little to no development. That's mainly because it was the furthest from the imperial city and less populated with nothing good to bring on the table hence it was neglected.
That neglect led to it being run down and occupied by fugitives or thieves that were running away from prosecution and other criminal elements they had offended. This was relatively a haven for small villains that feared the Concord.
Now that Ji Yao had found himself in this place it was safe to say there wouldn't be a warm welcome for him. This wasn't necessarily a problem for Ji Yao because in this place there lacked a united front which meant it was easy to subdue and control them.
This was one of the places his father never cared about because anything on land had nothing to do with him except the city Xiehe where the Concord convened when there was a problem. Now that Ji Yao had to use this city he naturally had to clean up the streets and establish his dominance.
What he didn't expect was to find two imperial ships docked at the port. From the flags flying high above the mainmast, he could tell these ships had been seized by pirates.
But any pirate organization short of the Concord had already been forcibly disbanded or sunk to the bottom of the sea by Red Bane. This was the thing about Ji Wen, on the waters there could only be one king not two so he naturally destroyed his competitors.
So seeing these docked ships came as a surprise to Ji Yao. Before he could even decide how to react something unexpected happened. The seized ships suddenly opened their gun ports and aimed them at Red Valkyrie without provocation.
A half Nocru with a scar running down from his forehead to his left eye stopping above his lip leapt up to the sky and issued a warning to the ship that looked Iike it had been built just in time for the spring festival only to lose its way and find itself here.
On its crow's nest, there wasn't a flag in sight but one could tell that the owner was a loaded son of a bitch. Thinking it was possible that one of these rich nobles had lost their way and happened to find themselves here, they made it a point to seize the ship.
Their lady would definitely love this gift. Scarface hovered a distance away and said, "You have approached private waters. Surrender now and prepare to be boarded otherwise we will launch an assault."
Ji Yao who had been standing at the quarterdeck didn't say anything as he stared at the man as though looking at an idiot. It was his crew that found it so funny that they laughed out loud mocking the man.
Without his captain's permission, Zhang Ci shot out sharp air arrows at the man who dodged with great difficulty. Before Scarface could speak he heard the boy who had attacked him say, "Launch an assault with what?! That backward piece of trash behind you? Ha! You must be out of your mind…. aahhh… aiyo. Capta-." His crying sounds immediately halted when he saw the glare being sent in his way.
Ji Yao initially wanted to let him go but when he recalled the shinanigans this brat did in the past he thought it would be a good time to teach him some life lessons on the hierarchy of this ship. This was why Zhang Ci was here, why all of them were here. To be moulded into future captains of the Concord.
Without any hesitation, he swung his hand and a razor-sharp arc of lightning struck Zhang Ci's back scorching his robe. Befuddled Zhang Ci looked at his beautiful robe that had been burnt then at Ji Yao. Meeting those cold eyes he shut his mouth in an instant.
Xiao Yùnqì and Tong Tong who happened to be nearby took a few steps back lest they get caught in the crossfire. One of them was human with no aether and the other hadn't awakened yet which meant if that lightning struck them there would be no better than a roasted chicken.
Ji Yao glanced over at Xunshi Zhe and said, "Show him."
Xunshi Zhe grinned slyly as he pulled out the flag that was meant to have been up there. Unravelling it he said, "Are you sure you want to fight this battle because I know for a fact that you will lose."
The man who had just cheekily dodged Zhang Ci's attack froze as the smile on his face sank. The characters of death were clearly written on that flag and he instantly knew which great buddha had found his way into their territory.
"Still have anything to say?" asked Big Hei as he took a step forward. Scarface looked constipated as he stared at the flag paralyzed. He had no idea when Ji Wen had got eight ships in his fleet.
They were seven ships aka the seven ghosts of the sea yet now right before him was an eighth. Thinking it could be someone pulling his leg he suddenly relaxed a little. Anyone smart could just replicate the flag of the Concord and claim to be under Pirate King Ji. It had only happened once in the past but never again because when Ji Wen found out he made an example of them. No one was stupid enough to claim that flag ever again up until now.
Thinking the Lady in charge was familiar with the Concord he decided to go and ask for her opinion but before he could do that something unexpected happened.
A metallic whip wrapped itself on his ankle without warning. Because that whip sword had broken through the sound barrier the loud whistling and cracking sounds only followed after he had already been dragged down to the main deck of the ship.
His nose broke from the mighty force striking him to the ground but before he could wallow in his pain a big bald head man walked over to him and pressed his face down with his foot.
