Chapter 1391: Purple Wing Unicorn
Chiang chiang chiang!
The Dragonlight Cavalry at the front row smashed their humongous shields against the ground and kicked up countless many clouds of dust. Nearly everyone was holding their breath and watching the swarm of Spirit Devouring Devils with nervousness and anticipation in their eyes. If we failed to stop the monster wave, we would be killed and turned into their experience. If we managed to hold our ground though, these Spirit Devouring Devils would reward us with a most generous amount of experience and powerful equipment.
Thud! Thud!
It was at this moment Li Chengfeng and Gui Guzi landed their Holy Giant Dragons on the ground. They were acting as the first stress points and damage dealers.
Empowered by the power of the Fusion Armor, I gripped my Chill of the Nine Provinces standing in between and ahead of Li Chengfeng and Gui Guzi. Together, we formed a triangle. Finally, I raised my left arm and shouted, "Dragonlight Archers, Far Shot your Shock Arrows!"
Behind me, countless arrows rose to the sky before falling heavily on top of the Spirit Devouring Devils. Many of the mobs were stunned in place and became obstacles to the charging Spirit Devouring Devils behind them. Not a moment too soon, the Holy Mages’ God Devil Breaks crashed down on top of their heads like artillery shells and dealt at least 200k damage per hit. The Holy Mages had insane Intelligence stat, and the Spirit Devouring Devils were purely physical mobs. Naturally, they were susceptible to God Devil Breaks.
However, the Spirit Devouring Devils’ numbers far exceeded our imagination. They easily broke through our dam of firepower and continued toward us.
Hiss hiss...
The foremost group of Spirit Devouring Devils charged toward me. Their lolling tongues looked ugly to say the least.
Buzz!
The Chill of the Nine Provinces buzzed once as I activated Great Earth Transformation. It cost only 1 Divine Energy Point per minute, and it increased all of my stats by at least 40%. This was a competition where the player with the highest contribution points would get the best reward, so super high DPS was the way to go here!
Fiery red energy wreathed the Chill of the Nine Provinces. After I sent them flying into the thickest group of mobs, I took a few steps forward before stomping the ground. The group of Spirit Devouring Devils who were just about to hit me immediately let out their death screams and collapsed to the ground as experience. The mobs were so numerous that the 70% splash effect of the Chill of the Nine Provinces was performing even better than usual!
I blocked the first blow with the Cyan Dragon Shield on my left arm while raising my other arm high. I fired 11 Ancient Seals in a row and damaged an entire line of Spirit Devouring Devils. However, the Divine General Skill was only powerful enough to delete 15% of their HP. It was the most I could do for my Dragonlight Cavalry without overtaxing my resources.
Chiang chiang chiang…
A dozen or so Spirit Devouring Devils approached me at high speed and slammed their claws against my Guardian Dragon Armor. They strained the metal and dealt a decent amount of damage to me—
39218!
29034!
33177!
Even more disgusting was the fact that they were healing themselves with every hit. I saw some of them healing for at least tens of thousands of HP per hit. Unacceptable! The 6-second cooldown on my melee skills wasn’t over yet, so I lashed out with basic attacks and dealt at least 400k damage per hit. I used the 20% lifesteal of my Chill of the Nine Provinces to trade HP with the Spirit Devouring Devils. Obviously, I was the one who had the upper hand here. Even without a priest to heal me, I should be able to survive on my own.
Dozens of meters away from me, Li Chengfeng was swinging away at the mobs with his Crimson Refinement Sword. He flew his Blue Crystal Dragon high enough to hit as many mobs as possible with Reverse Scale Slash + Dragonbone Flurry combo, then raised his sword high into the air. When enough energy had gathered around his sword to form the image of a silver dragon, he threw the Crimson Refinement Sword using Dragonblade Revolution and watched the mobs be cut down like wheat. As expected of the 5-Strength dragon warrior, his Reverse Scale Slash + Dragonbone Flurry + Dragonblade Revolution combo he chose to spam every 7 seconds was very simple to execute, but absolutely practical in this scenario. It was why his position as a Top 10 player on the contribution point ranking was untouched.
Gui Guzi’s DPS was slightly inferior to Li Chengfeng’s, but the combination of his Ghostblade Halberd, the Dark Crystal Dragon and the Undying Shield allowed him to fight at the frontlines like an unkillable tank. Further behind us, Chaos Moon, High Fighting Spirits, Du Thirteen, Xu Yang, Heaven’s Rain, Eighteen Steeds of You and Yun, Tiger Leopard Knight and more were doing their utmost to kill the mobs as well. The Dragonlight Cavalry’s hooves thundered against the ground, and offensive skills and flashes of healing light intertwined with each other until it was impossible to identify what was what. The mobs kept dying, but the Dragonlight Cavalry kept eating unfortunate crits and dying to them as well.
……
Swhoosh swhoosh swhoosh!
God Devil Breaks and Galaxy Storms mixed with one another amid a backdrop of penetrating arrows. The Dragonlight Archers and Holy Mages were without a doubt the MVPs of this battle, doing so much damage that it took them only 20 seconds or so for them to delete an entire group of mobs. As for the Dragonlight Cavalry, over 80% of them just held their shields in front of them and Guarded most of the time and attacked only when the Spirit Devouring Devils attacking them had wasted their Dark Thrust.
He Yi remained about 10 meters above the ground and hit the mobs using her Godslaying Blade. Her Suppressing Fire Sword left ugly scars across the ground and devastated the Spirit Devouring Devils with impunity. The Godslaying Blade’s splash effect was absolutely insane for this battle, and her kill count climbed to incredible numbers in no time at all.
Time passed bit by bit. After paying the price of nearly a thousand Dragonlight Cavalrymen, Ancient Sword entered a stable state where all that was left to do was to kill, kill, and kill some more. As if sensing that it was a good time to show off its power, Beiming Xue’s Xuanming Bow kept triggering its Xuanming Flame and reaped a ton of contribution points for her. There was a reason why any of the Twelve Divine Armaments was considered a priceless treasure.
……
Boom!
The Phantom Wolf King dished out its Claw of the Storm and Purgatory Storm at the same time and killed ten or so Spirit Devouring Devils at once. While firing Thousand Ice Slash to freeze the group of mobs in front of me, I snuck a glance at Cyan Beast’s formation and saw that both Breeze and Rain and God of War had shown up. God of War was riding a massive beast that was shaped like a Taotie. Its name was ‘Giant Abyssal Beast’, an Immortal Rank Boss mount. As for Breeze of Rain, he was riding a mount called ‘Purple Wing Unicorn’, and just as its name might suggest, it was a unicorn with a pair of purple wings behind its back. Its horn could strike a certain area with lightning. Both of them had become much stronger since the last time I saw them.
God of War carried a huge blade and ordered with a guffaw, "Hold the line! For tons of profit!"
Breeze and Rain sped back and forth along his battle line while spamming his Blazing Slash, Moon Breaking Slash and more to reduce the pressure on his players. Although Cyan Beast’s formation shook from time to time, they never took a single step backward.
The damage they were sustaining was massive, however. Cyan Beast’s Gold Cavalry kept dropping like flies, and barring any accident God of War was going to lose at least ten thousand of his one hundred thousand Gold Cavalrymen by the end of this battle. On the other hand, Ancient Sword Dreaming Souls was probably not going to lose more than 2000 Dragonlight Cavalrymen. That was the difference between a Quasi Immortal Rank mount and an Earth Rank mount.
Worryingly, our left side was doing much, much worse. Flower Room’s entire party was conspicuously missing, and at least ten thousand Spirit Devouring Devils had broken through the defense line and wreaked havoc everywhere. About five hundred meters behind us, their guild leader, Li Le, just barely escaped certain death while a furious Dominating Heaven Blade yelled at him, "Fucking fuck! Just how goddamn trash you are, young master Le? We withdrew because you said Flower Room would be able to hold this area, so what the fuck is this? Are you trying to feed the goddamned Spirit Devouring Devils?!"
Li Le spat in his direction. "Pooh! You can fight them since you’re so good!"
Dominating Heaven Blade obliged and pointed his sword forward. "Gods of Destruction, go!"
And so, the two guilds clashed against the Spirit Devouring Devils once more, but because their frontliners lacked the tenacity to hold the line, they could only use what people loved to call the "human flesh" tactic, also known as keep throwing bodies at the thing until you win. It was unbearable to look at.
Further away, I saw a fiery red Lin Yixin on her Crimson Crystal Dragon slicing and dicing the mobs with her Purple Spirit Sword. Both her appearance and her prowess matched her former ID "Beautiful Little Pepper" perfectly. She truly was a fiery and beautiful girl.
Snowy Cathaya’s generals—Purple Marquis, Nangong Lexi, Zi Chuanyu, Lifestealing Sword and more—were doing absolutely everything in their power to hold the line. They kept fighting even though all their HP bars were below 40%. It was the main reason Snowy Cathaya’s defense line hadn’t crumbled.
I checked out Blazing Hot Lips, Candle Dragon, Purple Lily and the rest of the super guilds. They were all sustaining a considerable amount of losses, but they were mostly able to kill the Spirit Devouring Devils dead before they breached their final defense line.
……
"Lu Chen!"
Suddenly, He Yi shouted to me, "The boss of this monster wave just showed up! It’s not a Sovereign Rank boss, but it’s still Ancient Immortal Rank! Also, it appeared right between us and Cyan Beast! Should we pull the boss over?"
I hurriedly canceled Fusion Armor and rose to the sky. I quickly confirmed that He Yi’s observation was true. A deep frown appeared on my face. The timing and position of this boss couldn’t be any worse. Within China at least, all the guilds had arrived at the tacit understanding that the strongest of us would be guarding the sides. It was why we were guarding the right side, and Candle Dragon, the left. For an entire hour, Cyan Beast and us hadn’t attempted to screw each other over not only because of the mobs’ pressure, but also because it wasn’t time yet. Unfortunately, it looked like this mutual understanding was about to be shattered.
I glanced ahead and stared at the gigantic, 5-meter-tall boss. It was clad in black armor and dragging a battle axe. Every time it swung its weapon, it would cause a blood-red shockwave that I had no doubt would cause massive damage to all the players on the ground. The attack had an AoE of 20 yards, so only cavalrymen past a certain level of tankiness threshold could even get close to it. Otherwise, the shockwave was just going to slaughter all of them.
"We must snatch this boss! We cannot let the Indians think that we’re showing weakness!"
I waved my sword, slapped my dragon once on the back and zipped toward the boss with lightning speed. At the same time, I saw a purple figure making its way toward the boss as well. It was Breeze and Rain of course. It was impossible not to notice his Purple Wing Unicorn.
