Chapter 1414: Battling Thunder
"Thunder… Thunder Abyss…"
Warsky was speechless for a time. Then, he commented, "What a powerful skill it is. It didn’t leave a strand of Laughing At The Heavens’ hair behind…"
October Rain nodded agreeingly. "I know right?"
A blue vein popped on Lin Bing Dou Zhe’s face. "We have a guild wipe crisis in our hands, and this is what you guys are concerned about? I don’t even know what to say anymore! Oh fuck, the boss is coming our way. We need to get back to our party and organize our defense now! Why the fuck is the fucking boss fucking spawning in our fucking direction AGAIN when he can be fucking up the Indians or the Northern Alliance anyway[1]? Fucking motherfucker…"
It was clear that Lin Bing Dou Zhe was a little shook up by the boss's might and his close brush with death.
……
Under Warsky’s orders, the archers and mages of Warsky Alliance jumped off the walls and spread out into an orderly formation, ready to battle Thunder at a moment’s notice. Speaking of which, the huge pit Thunder had created with Thunder Abyss had been refreshed back into a flat ground in just 10 seconds. I don’t know why, but it made me think that Thunder Abyss probably had a short cooldown, maybe even as short as just a couple of seconds. The first time I encountered Thunder, he was just an Immortal Rank boss. Today, he was Divine Rank and a hundred times stronger than before. For narrative purposes, games would usually scale the NPCs to the average strength of players. Otherwise, main quests would only begin in the endgame!
I nodded at my players and said, "Thunder has come to torment us Chinese just as we hoped he would. Holy Mages and Dragonlight Archers, get down here and spread out into formation. You’ve all seen Thunder Abyss’ power, so try not to be blown into atoms in an instant. I guarantee you that it won’t feel good. Still, how much Magic Attack does this fucker have anyway? To one-shot the likes of Laughing At The Heavens…"
Gui Guzi shuddered violently when he recalled that scene. "You know, can we not fight this boss? I don’t know why, but that Thunder Abyss skill really scares me. I hate this gut feeling…"
I laughed. "Relax, you probably won’t even feel it if it kills you. Anyway, we’ll engage the boss after Warsky is dead…"
At the distance, a blue vein popped on Warsky’s face as he said, "If you’re going to curse me behind my back, you may as well lower your voice so I can’t hear you."
The off-hand comment brushed aside the severity of battle as the remaining veterans all laughed heartily in the face of impending doom.
……
The boss was gunning for Warsky Alliance, and Warsky didn’t ask for our aid. If we were to attack the boss, they would view it as an attempt to steal their boss. Yes, Thunder was a Purgatory Sovereign who might very well wipe the floor with all of us, much less one Warsky Alliance, but he was also a walking bag of precious loot. Warsky would be damned if he "shared" the looting rights with us without at least putting up a fight. That being said, we weren’t planning to engage Thunder anyway, at least not right away. Thunder was in perfect condition right now, and I had no desire to see the amount of devastation he could do to my guild…
"Get ready! The battle’s about to begin!" Warsky yelled. "Gold Cavalry, Charge the boss in 10-man parties and use your Trapping Nets or whatever CC skills you have! Yes, I know they’re almost guaranteed to miss, but so what? It’s not like you can do any actual damage against Thunder anyway! All 100-man mage and archer parties, march forward and attack Thunder now! Yes, now! Show Ancient Sword, Candle Dragon and Snowy Cathaya our boss fighting ability!"
10 Gold Cavalrymen immediately formed up before using Charge against Thunder!
MISS!
MISS!
MISS!
As expected, they were all misses. However, just because the Charge failed to stun Thunder didn’t mean that he wasn’t knocked back a little by the continuous impact. Lips curling into a disdainful sneer, he swung his Blade of Thunder in an arc and caused a lighting shockwave that instantly burned all 10 players into ashes. The damage numbers were just terrible to look at—
2,240,883!
1,982,367!
2,316,364!
……
The stat difference was just too huge, and not every Gold Cavalryman had full buffs on them. They were no match for Thunder at all!
The archers’ arrows caused lightning ripples when they struck Thunder’s armor. It looked like its surface was protected by some sort of lightning energy. As a result, Warsky Alliance’s archers couldn’t even deal 1 point of fixed damage to the boss. The mages’ Touch of the Dragonkiss did manage to do some damage though—
1477!
2436!
978!
……
Even so, Thunder’s HP bar wasn’t decreasing at all. My guess was that Thunder had 1 billion HP or more. It meant that DPS of all mages there would maybe equal his passive HP regeneration.
Warsky gritted his teeth. "Mages with insufficient Intelligence, cast God Devil Break anyway! A fixed damage of 1000 is still higher than whatever it is you’re doing right now! Thousand-man mage party, go! Cavalrymen, don’t be afraid! Ride with me!"
Warsky really was going all out this time. He Charged and missed his stun just like everyone else, but his Cyan Tiger Shatter struck Thunder’s chest for 78093 damage. The Immortal Blade was one of the Twelve Divine Armaments after all. Albeit barely, Warsky could still penetrate Thunder’s Defense.
"You want to die that much?"
A bit angry, Thunder thrust his sword straight toward Warsky!
Chiang!
Warsky tried to block the attack with the flat side of the Immortal Blade, but it just wasn’t possible. He was launched across the air, and he skipped a couple of times across the ground before slamming against the fortress wall. The impact was so huge that dust and stones could be seen falling from the wall. He took a whopping 1.29 million damage, but at least he wasn’t one-shot.
Meanwhile, the mages who failed to do more than 1000 damage with their usual spells started bombarding Thunder with God Devil Breaks. Finally, Thunder’s HP began decreasing slowly.
"Heh!"
Sneering again, Thunder raised his left arm and summoned lightning to his fingertips. The next moment, another Thunder Abyss exploded among the attackers!
BANG!
A group of mages and archers were instantly one-shot. None of them were lucky enough to survive the attack. Not done yet, Thunder planted one foot on the ground and abruptly vanished from view, leaving behind only a trail of blue lightning and dust. The next thing we knew, he had appeared on the flank of another group of mages and archers. His movement speed seemed to have surpassed what the game would allow a player to do. He raised the Blade of Thunder and unleashed a cone-shaped lightning shockwave!
Another one hundred Warsky Alliance ranged players dropped dead. The basic attack—that’s right, it was just the sword aura of a basic attack—was almost as powerful as Thunder Abyss. Thunder’s Attack was just way too high, and the fact that he could "teleport" around didn’t help things one bit. In a sense, his skillset was the ideal every warrior should strive for. Compared to Thunder, Ray of Sunshine’s skillset might as well be dogshit…
……
"Fuck!"
Unwilling to admit defeat, Warsky brandished his sword and ordered, "We’re going all out, Warsky Alliance! We will drag Thunder to hell with us even if it costs us all our lives! Human wave random bullshit[2] attack, go!"
The Warsky Alliance players still on the rampart began jumping down to the ground. The archers fired only Shock Arrows and Armor Breaking Arrows because Shock Arrows might have a chance to stun the boss, and Armor Breaking Arrows[3] were the only skill they had that could do more than 1000 damage…
The battle dissolved into complete chaos as every man and woman in Warsky Alliance engaged Thunder. Thunder mowed down Warsky Alliance’s players like wheat, but Warsky doggedly clung to his heels while relying on the Immortal Blade and his priests’ healing to keep him alive. Healing light, magic spells and arrows filled the air. The all-out assault was absolutely costly, but it was effective to a certain extent.
Ten whole minutes later, Thunder lost around 25% HP or so, but Warsky Alliance lost at least 100k players. The only ones who were still alive were Warsky, Lin Bing Dou Zhe, October Rain, Farewell Song and a couple hundred of elites. They didn’t even have the numbers to do their human wave attack anymore…
"Pooh, Warsky is such an idiot…"
Chaos Moon commented, "He sacrificed nearly all of his guild’s effective strength just so that he wouldn’t lose face. Was it worth it?"
I disagreed. "That’s not it. Warsky and the guild he founded are the unyielding type. The entire world may bend their knees, but Warsky Alliance’s spirit will never bend for anything. That is why I respect Warsky more than most people. He can be unscrupulous when trying to achieve his objective sometimes, but his positive traits still outweigh the negatives."
Gui Guzi said, "Well, Warsky Alliance may not bend, but they’re definitely going to break in just a couple of minutes at most. They only have less than 1000 players left, and there are barely priests still alive to heal Warsky. Hell will freeze over before they beat Thunder…"
I unsheathed the Chill of the Nine Provinces and said, "That is why it’s time we enter the battlefield and save them before they are completely annihilated. Warsky is as unyielding as he is stubborn, so he will never give us the S.O.S. In that case, we’ll take out the boss ourselves and claim the reward!"
Xu Yang asked, "What strategy are we using this time?"
I thought for a second before shrugging, "I can’t think of anything really. Just get in there and hack away, I guess…"
Li Chengfeng chuckled. "Yeah, all strategies are meaningless against an enemy this powerful. Let’s just play our roles the best we can: the cavalrymen will charge, mages and archers will CC and damage the boss, the priests will heal, and the bards will buff. Oh, there is one thing. How many people are we sending for the first charge?"
He Yi replied, "Fifty thousand!"
I nodded. "Very well. Main force, follow me!"
……
The sound of the Brave General Horseshoes clopping against the ground sounded pleasing to the ear. The Dragonlight Cavalry charged toward Thunder, the legendary boss who was just moments away from destroying Warsky Alliance single-handedly.
Swhoosh!
I activated Thunderous Charge the second I got into range and came face-to-face with the Asura God boss. It was a miss as a matter of course.
"Hmm?"
Thunder’s pupils abruptly dilated in shock and realization. "It’s you!"
Holy shit, he still recognizes me!
"So it IS you!" Hatred and malice started filling his eyes. "The Wind Singer’s accomplice! Perfect timing. I will tear you to pieces myself, you damned brat!"
While he was busy threatening me, I thrust my Chill of the Nine Provinces into his battle armor and injected him with Purple Frost Concentration!
The armor-break skill took effect and lowered the boss's Defense by 18.9%. Combined with Beiming Xue’s Bone Eroding Arrow, it was a total of 23.7% Defense reduction. Hopefully, it was enough for the Dragonlight Archers to penetrate his Defense.
The second Purple Frost Concentration took effect, I immediately followed up with Burning Blade Slash at Thunder’s weak point!
273,298!
342,774!
412,387!
While the triple-hit skill was rocking Thunder’s body, I pressed a palm to his chest and executed point-blank God Binding Art. Of course, it was also a miss. God fucking dammit[4]…
……
Swhoosh!
Lightning abruptly wreathed around the Blade of Thunder. Here it comes!
I raised the Cyan Dragon Shield and activated Cyan Dragon Scale!
Bang!
Even with my Strength, I was sent skidding to the back by the powerful strike. My shield arm felt like it was being torn apart, and I must have skidded dozens of meters or so before a pair of smooth, slender legs caught my back.
1. E/N: It probably inherits aggro table from the entire legion. Lu Chen killed the most, so obviously he’s aggro’d on your side, lol. Same with last 3 bosses all going to Chinese side. ?
2. E/N: Moon Knight random bullshit go meme can’t go wrong. Moon Knight is getting its own Marvel TV show too! ?
3. E/N: At this point I can’t be sure if that’s even a skill. I used to change these to armor-breaking arrows, since Extreme Break, Bone Eroding Arrow and Purple Frost Concentration are armor-breaking skills, while Devil Piercing Arrow, Barrier Break and many more are armor-piercing. Hopefully Truth will explain in the comments! ?
4. E/N: I know right? It was supposed to work BETTER against gods… ?
