Chapter 268: The Storm
When Han Jin returned to the Reapers’ station, the sun was already up. Although he had already rested for a while, he still felt extremely exhausted. The thing that he wanted to do most was to go back to his own bed and have a good sleep.
Han Jin was shocked when he pushed the door open. Sunier was lying on his bed while casually teasing a small golden thunderbird.
This thunderbird was the one that had almost been trampled to death by Moxinke. As the saying goes, there will be a blessing after every disaster. His fate had been determined by Han Jin and Yalina over a simple conversation because Han Jin had decided for him to be the Thunderbird King.
Along with Han Jin’s special care, the thunderbird grew extremely quickly. The fat, fluffy body gradually grew longer, and it even had a streamlined beauty. Although the Thunderbird was still in its infancy, its weight and size were already comparable to an ordinary eagle.
“Why are you here?” Han Jin said it in a rude manner. Fortunately, Sunier wasn’t a sentimental person, otherwise, it would have made her skeptical.
“I was waiting for you!” Sunier rolled her eyes. “Where were you for the entire night?”
“I thought I had already told you that I had something to do and might not return for the night?” Han Jin said while sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Just because you have already informed us doesn’t make it reasonable for you to do so. Plus, you didn’t even tell us what you were doing. All of us were so worried about you!”
“What else would I be doing?” Han Jin laughed. “Don’t worry, if I really wanted to run away, no one would be able to stop me.” He then immediately laid down on the bed as he really needed some rest.
Sunier actually wanted to continue talking, but she instead let out a sigh upon seeing Han Jin’s state.
Han Jin suddenly realized that he hadn’t been giving Sunier enough attention. In fact, this was something that he felt very helpless about. His time and energy was limited. He had to improve himself to prepare for any fights with Nicholas in the future, and there were too many things that he had to do. There wasn’t any time left for him to be dating Sunier.
This was a common problem for those who had to accomplish success or those who wanted to accomplish something. No matter in which industry, in order to succeed, there will be sacrifices. No one will be able to succeed with pure luck. Well, of course, there are those who have someone looking after them.
Time, energy and sweat. It is because they have put in so much more of this that they are able to become successful. This was also the same reason why they would be negligent of those that are important to them. For example, their loved ones. It is difficult to balance everything. There is only so much time in a day, and so much energy in one person. If they spend extra time on one end, they will have less time on the other end. It is difficult for any man to be successful if he spends all of his time being around his wife and children.
“Why did you bring Gold Bolt here?” Han Jin had nothing else to talk about, and Gold Bolt was the name of the Thunderbird. “They are still too small. They have to be locked up to overcome their wildness.”
“How?”
“Didn’t we keep them in the backyard?”
“The thunderbirds already know how to fly; you think it’s possible to keep them in the backyard? Unless you want to put them in a cage?” Sunier rolled her eyes again.
“They can already fly?” Han Jin was surprised and happy.
It was almost as if the Thunderbird understood their conversation. Gold Bolt started chirping, spread his wings, and started flapping.
This caused a strong current inside the room, and even the windows were forced open. Sunier’s long hair was blown into a mess, and the worst thing was that she was wearing a very tulle nightwear. It was blown open by the strong wind, allowing almost everything to be exposed.
“This naughty thing!!” Sunier screamed out of embarrassment while trying to cover herself.
Sunier’s voice was so very loud that even the thunderbird knew something was wrong. It gathered its wings and moved toward Han Jin while trying to stay away from Sunier.
“Don’t scare him.” Han Jin laughed. He grabbed onto Sunier’s shoulders and laid backwards. Along with her scream, Sunier was pulled down along with Han Jin and ended up lying on top of him.
“Are you trying to get everyone in here?” Han Jin softly said.
“You... stop it!” Sunier struggled while anxiously saying, “The window! It’s still opened!”
“I’m not going to do anything. Just stay with me for a while.” Han Jin slowly closed his eyes.
After a while, Han Jin did keep his word and didn’t do anything. Sunier sat up and stared at Han Jin. The woman’s mind is a complicated world. When Han Jin had grabbed her, she had been embarrassed and scared, but when Han Jin hadn’t continued, she felt uncomfortable.
“Raphael, what’s wrong?” Sunier gently asked. She realized that Han Jin’s condition wasn’t right.
“Tired... I’m really tired.” Han Jin mumbled. Other than releasing the Thunder Refining spell that had almost completely consumed all of his energy, he also had to use his mind to control the thunderbolt. He was completely exhausted, and it felt like a hangover. His head was throbbing in pain, and he couldn’t even lift his fingers. He had the heart and guts of a thief, but not the courage.
When she noticed that Han Jin couldn’t even open his eyes, she let out a sigh and leaned on Han Jin shoulder. She then suddenly remembered something and whispered, “Raphael, can I talk to you about something?”
“What is it?”
“Your magic can transform these thunderbirds, right? Do... you think it’s possible to increase their lifespan?”
“Why?”
“A Thunderbird will only be a chick for about six months. They grow very fast, but they also age faster as well. They can only live for at most six to seven years. Are you able to do so?” Sunier bit her lips. “Six to seven years is too short. I’ll... miss them.”
If Han Jin’s eyes were open at this moment, he would be able to see Sunier’s abnormal reaction. Han Jin was already exhausted, and Sunier shouldn’t be asking him about this now. The Thunderbird issues could be discussed some time later; there was definitely some hidden agenda.
“I’ll try...” Han Jin vaguely replied and gently patted Sunier’s hips.
A hint of sorrow was seen in Sunier eyes, but they immediately turned firm. She leaned back next to Han Jin. After waiting for Han Jin the entire night, she was also exhausted and sleepy. Initially, she had just wanted to accompany Han Jin for a while and return to her own room, but after a while, she and Han Jin fell asleep at about the same time. The Thunderbird chirped for a while, but since there was no one around to play with it, it jumped down from the bed and quietly fell asleep at the edge of the bed.
The windows! That damn window that had been forced open by Gold Bolt was still wide open. Sunier had wanted to close it before leaving the room, but there was nothing she could do now.
Early morning was the liveliest time around. Everyone would gather together for breakfast and talk about what had happened yesterday and what their plans were for the day. It was a very warm and intimate atmosphere.
Han Jin had said that he had something to do last night and had not returned for the entire night, which had made everyone worried. Therefore, Moxinke volunteered to have a look at Han Jin’s yard to see what the situation was. In the end, he managed to see a scene that almost made him blind...
Within the entire team, Moxinke was the least sentimental person! It was definitely normal for him to laugh about it. Although the actual truth was very different from the scene he had seen, Moxinke didn’t care! Instead, he acted as if he had seen god. He was jumping and screaming, telling everyone what he had seen and even telling all of them to gather together to witness the scene.
Fortunately, Julia was there! Everyone returned to their seats after being warned by Julia. She then went to Han Jin’s yard, closed the window, ordered some of the slaves to guard the yard, and told them to restrict anyone from going in.
However, no matter how strong a person was, he still wouldn’t be the center of the earth. Han Jin was deep in his sleep, but the entire world was still moving at its own pace.
About a few hundreds meters away, there were dozens of knights who were heavily sweating and desperately riding their war horses toward the direction of Isolated Cliff City. They carried a rescue letter that had been personally written by Ronning! The man standing behind Ronning was the Dragon-Knight Guevara who once had the power to conquer the world. If it was something that even Guevara couldn’t solve and needed help from Isolated Cliff City for, it was definitely something very complicated!
In the abyss, there was a large and densely packed group of bats who were flying under the lead of a silver-white bat, Alquete! Although Betty was his descendant, he didn’t feel much for her as the gap between them was too big. However, Aquete had been sleeping for way too long, and he wanted to take a spin in the outside world. At these moments, ignorance is bliss. If Alquete had found out that there was a powerful archbishop who was right next to Han Jin, would he still have the courage to fly out of the cave?
In fact, priests are just a type of supportive force as they don’t have much power to determine the outcome of a battle. The only reason why the Church has such a noble status is mainly because of their ability to fight the races from the Abyss. Priests are most powerful while fighting against these races as light-element magic is fatal to them!
Jeddes’s position in the Church was not the highest, and he wasn’t even the strongest as he was still weaker than the Pope. However, when it came to magical achievements, no one could beat him. Jeddes had already established a totally different realm. The realm of cascading magic will inevitably change the existing magic system!
In the alley behind one of the quaint shops in Isolated Cliff City, there were several elves who were whispering about something. Although all of them looked very young, all of the elves here wore purple long robes, and the famous elf, Lydia, was standing behind them. For the elf race, the purple color showed nobility and mystery. Only the elders from the Elders Senate could wear purple robes; even Lydia wasn’t qualified.
“Lydia, what’s your opinion?” one of the elders turned around and asked.
“Sir, I don’t think this is right,” Lydia hesitated for a while before softly replying.
“What’s wrong with it? We need peace and we love peace. Anyone who’s trying to destroy the peace is our enemy!” another female elder said in a cold tone.
Lydia didn’t continue talking and just lowered her head. For hundreds of years, she had been the leading general of Wild Willow City! She could no longer be fooled by their sugar-coated words, as she understood what ‘peace’ really meant.
