President Huo appeared to be gravely serious about it—no child’s play from the devil. “Alright, sir, as you requested, I’ll need to prepare a few documents beforehand.” And she left.

The president never intended joining the meeting with Princess Morebucks from the very beginning and there Princess Morebucks stood stiff, all awkward and humiliated as her request was knocked down straight away. “Okay, Brother Yunting. You seem busy today. I’ll go then. See you later~” Mo Shan did a curtsy and made her exit.

Huo Yunting did not even bother to bid her farewell as the clinks made by her heels trailed off at the corridor, during which he took a look through the contract with eyes partially closed in disdain.

I have had seriously enough of this woman.

——

The venue fell to the Tapestry, a well-known Chinese restaurant in the city.

When President Huo and his secretary finally arrived by the private cabin, a few big shots were already inside, touching glasses of finest wine.

Lu Zhaoyang bowed courteously as she greeted every one of them, before sitting right next to the president.

“Oh, Secretary Lu, long time no see! You’ve turned prettier!”

“It’s been almost a month since we last saw President Huo. So—I heard that Secretary Lu was also going for a field trip like the president?”

“Oh yeah, now that you’ve mentioned it, where did you go, President Huo? More importantly, where did *you* go, Secretary Lu?”

It was part of the pretentious socialization between the socialites. Everybody knew what those questions meant.

Secretary Lu smiled wryly, “I have lots of Annual Leave quota. So I went to have a break.”

“You are absolutely right, Secretary Lu. You haven’t been taking a break for quite a long time. You deserve a break. But it’s the end of the year we are talking about. The worst timing to return to work if you ask me. I would stay till the end of the second week next year if I were you!”

“It’s fine,” replied Lu Zhaoyang kindly, “We are busy all year around. It won’t make a difference.”

The group chuckled upon her optimistic reply. “President Huo, you’re blessed to have this secretary, I tell ya!”

The dishes were then served by the suavely dressed waiters. There was shark fin soup, a large plate of pork legs, a well-steamed cod served with truffle bits and a few other dishes which had names so long Zhaoyang could not follow. The table was full, and so was Zhaoyang’s cutlery, as the waitress proactively filled her glass with a wine from the early nineties.

The catch was, Secretary Lu was too sick for expensive alcohol today.

“Well, Secretary Lu, what do you say? It’s been so long since we spoke face-to-face. You *must* have this toast with me,” said one major player involved in Thunderbolt Corp.’s latest collaboration.

Lu Zhaoyang could not turn down the offer from such a person with much seniority on this occasion.

Well, not like she could turn down offers from anybody at the venue, especially when all the ladies the big shots brought chugged wine at a brief nod.

It would certainly look bad on her if she pushed the glass away.

What should she do?

“Excuse me.” That was when Huo Yunting called one of the waiters, “Two glasses of fruit juice please.”

“Well, President Huo, are you that thirsty?” Said one of the executives.

The gesture confused even Lu Zhaoyang who presumed the devil having a rather small stomach to fit two glasses of fruit juice at once.

What happened next completely stunned her. “Here’s your juice, sir.” Huo Yunting took one of the glasses, gave a gentle stir, smelled it as if evaluating a glass of Merlot, “Just a change of taste that I do sometimes. I’ll drink mine while you guys have fun.”

Zhaoyang could not move her enlarged eyes away from the president, still unable to get over the twist.

“Stop pulling my leg, President Huo.”

“Yeah, cut me some slack will ya? Go get yourself some real drinks.”

“Oh come on, President Huo, you’re too young to cut down on alcohol.”

“Aren’t we partners? Why are you taking a different drink then?”

They were part of Huo Yunting’s business alliance for some time now, such that they were unsurprisingly good friends with him, but Lu Zhaoyang must say that they were messing with the wrong friend in the party.

She instinctively picked the last glass on the tray, as she heard the man saying, “I’m not in a good shape lately. I’ll pass for alcohol. Juices will do fine.”

And Zhaoyang almost imagined President Huo conducting a massacre at the cabin tonight.

“Fine, juices are good but they are meant for babies. Please, drink something a real man would drink! Just drink it already!”
