Elisa could have employed a more nuanced approach if she had intentionally made things difficult for Darren. He wouldn’t mind continuing to plead his case and try to convince her, but an outright rejection left him unsure of his next steps.

Darren took a moment before speaking again. “Perhaps you could give it some thought, Liz? You and Garry were meant to be together; you’ve already been married for three years. As they say, a day as a couple is worth a hundred days of gratitude. Don’t you think giving up just like that is a pity?”

Darren earnestly hoped that Gareth and Elisa could reconcile.

Elisa’s surprise grew as she witnessed the depth of Darren’s affection for Julia. Despite his apparent disdain for Elisa, he humbled himself to beg for their reconciliation. One must know it was unusual for Darren to stoop so low to beg for Elisa’s forgiveness, and for her to reconcile with Gareth was a shock.

Elisa lifted her gaze, and the man saw her stoic expression, and his eyes gradually clouded over. Elisa didn’t say anything and a hint of sarcasm flickered in her eyes. It wasn’t Darren’s place to initiate for Gareth and her to reconcile since Gareth would never agree. Just look at how irritated he became after Darren’s short plea. So, what else was there to say?

“Brat, why are you here?!” Gareth sneered coldly. “Haven’t you seen the trending topic on Twitter? Don’t you know I would send her home after the movie?”

Darren was taken aback. He forgot about it, assuming they would part ways after the movie. Little did he know that Gareth would initiate sending Elisa home. After Gareth’s interruption, Elisa decided not to speak again, leaving the grandfather and grandson to converse on their own.

“You heard everything I said earlier, didn’t you?” Gareth remained silent, signaling his consent.

Darren’s face grew visibly solemn. He mumbled exasperatedly before feigning composed and said, “Now that you know my thoughts, rest assured that I won’t stand in your way anymore. Whether or not you can win Liz’s heart is entirely up to your doing. Just don’t make a fool out of yourself.”

Elisa remained silent, and Gareth’s expression turned even colder. “Didn’t I say this is none of your business? Please stay out of my business. All you need to do is stop upsetting Grandma.”

“I am your grandfather, you ungrateful brat! You may have grown up, but that doesn’t give you the right to disrespect me!”

Elisa turned to look out the window, which was her villa. The scenery in the yard looked stunning, even more so at night. The men’s conversation was not productive, and she had no interest in listening.

“Anything else? If not, I’m going to end this call.” Darren furrowed, knowing there was no point in saying too much. He gave a cold snort before speaking to Elisa in a gentle voice. “Well, I hope you can take to heart what Grandpa said today, Liz. Our doors are always open to you, and I hope you will come back. I’m truly sorry for what happened before.”

Darren’s unprecedented and recurrent apology caught Elisa off guard. At the same time, she was flattered by it.
