Chapter 166 - 166 Painting the sky red
166 Painting the sky red
A slim dilapidated metal spaceship appeared out of the darkness of space moving towards the reddish brown planet below, even in space one could see the countless lights that were birthed from various explosions laser weapons and various practitioners engaged in brutal war.
“This is private property, desist from approaching the planet, or face the consequences.” This cold emotionless announcement was received by the dilapidated space ship, the message seemed to be generally broadcasted around a certain radius of space through the ships surrounding the brown planet.
“Alert, Alert, multiple beam guns have locked onto the vessel, estimated time for shields to hold is approximately 2 seconds.” A cold electronic voice echoed throughout the metal hull of the ship, there were at least four fully armed huge ships trained on his location, the dilapidated metal spaceship immediately reduced its speed as it alerted its owner who was resting in the dimly lighted bridge
Layton opened his eyes and stared at the projected images of the enemy ships being shown by the ai that governed his vehicle, from the looks of it the enemy’s ship much like his wasn’t a very advanced model, the mode of attack seemed to be common laser weapons and its aiming mechanism wasn’t as advanced as genetic targeting or brain wave locking, the defence system was also a common electromagnetic and mild gravitational barrier all these told Layton one thing, which was although the ships posed a threat to his vehicle there was no threat to him personally. As for the possibility of being killed by strong men who might be on the ship, Layton wasn’t too worried although he was somewhat limited by fighting in space he was still a top figure and in the course of his travels in the plane as a mercenary under the ‘battlefield’ he had adapted to his new form accumulated a lot of experience in battle and sublime application of the law. Even if he couldn’t win and complete the task he undertook he was still confident in his ability to survive and retreat.
“Open the hatch”
The cold command resounded in the empty hall and an opening appeared in the walls revealing the cold empty space, Layton did not resist the suction that appeared as a result of the hatch opening and flew out into space with axe in hand, with a slight cackle of electricity he shot towards the nearest ship like a silent missile, before the radars on the ship could react he already lifted the axe up, its body now severely cracked but the blade a frightening red. Without paying attention to its change he cleaved forward, peculiar fluctuations from his excited magnetic field distorted the ship shields as the axe blade moved swiftly forward cutting into the metal of the ship, once the blade and the ship made contact a loud explosion occurred as the ship seemingly subject to intense heat and flames split in half and exploded.
The world masters on the ship that just exploded had escaped with Layton’s attack they immediately noticed the situation was wrong and with their fast reflexes they immediately abandoned ship whilst opening a swift space channel taking into their domain as many of their subordinates and crew members as possible. Layton spared them no glance as he used the thrust from the explosion coupled with his own natural speed to appear next to the other ships and repeated the same action, in a matter of seconds all enemy ships were destroyed, the speed of his actions and ease with movement made those ships that were aware of the incoming attack unable to perform and effect proper defences. Elite world masters such as Layton or world masters that specialized in speed were too much for a ship of this level to handle without sufficient preparation time especially when the weapon system hadn’t been trained on him from the start but instead on his ship.
Layton floated in the space without fear towards being surrounded by the world masters who had survived the ship’s destruction, the survivors surrounded him and kept their gaze trained on his hands, it took a second for Layton to realize what their gazes represented, ‘it seems they believe most of my strength can be contained once my weapon is destroyed’ Layton thought musing as he turned his attention to the dilapidated axe that was now covered in cracks basically on the verge of falling apart only lingering as a result of his magnetic field keeping the existing shards in place, the axe which had been used an appendage to exert part of the mighty force of the law of flame couldn’t handle the strain of such strength and was naturally falling apart, it was a result of the obvious trace of laws lingering on the weapon that led the world masters surrounding Layton to believe that the impending collapse of the axe meant a reduction in his strength.
Layton gave a smile and let go of the axe in his palm, the axe having been relieved of Layton’s magnetic field started to collapse into tiny burnt metal fragments floating leisurely in space as it did so it gave off a bright blinding light, Layton taking advantage of this dashed forward hi body flickering with a short electric light as he shot through space like an electromagnetic bullet towards the nearest individual, instantly arriving at his destination he sent forward a punch, the mere weight and speed of the attack caused the surrounding space to be sticky slightly hindering his target’s movements. The unlucky world master who was targeted was unable to come up with a swift and efficient response thusly could only watch in despair as the solid fist landed on his chest. The fist created a chain reaction causing the world master to simply explode as the structural integrity of his body disintegrated turning into minute pieces of flesh and blood painting a small corner of the dark void that is space.
