Chapter 72
Chapter 72
72 jotunheimr
Walking out of the shop he headed towards the subway he remembered that when he was briefly connected to the world through perceiving the rhythm of the earth pulse he had noticed a different fluctuation underneath the city, he didn’t think much of it at first but now that he was looking for competitors in the holy grail he naturally focused on the position he sensed earlier, he knew for a fact he would either find his goal there or something related to his goal.
Blending in with the crowd Layton stealthily walked towards the nearest underground subway station in the city, since he was easily found by Knight earlier Layton knew someone must have been monitoring the traffic and surveillance cameras in the city, although Layton had decided to try and end the war early he wanted to get rid of whatever or whoever was hiding in the depths of the earth his instincts were warning him that if he missed this chance then most likely it would be several times harder to get rid of this competitor and he did not want or need any unneeded distractions.
Merged with the crowd Layton entered into the brightly lit subway, it was fairly busy with a lot of people going in and out of the station.
Using his colour haki to perceive his body’s magnetic field he influenced his natural biomagnetic field to reduce his presence and twist the surrounding light while also closing his pores to further eliminate his scent while moving swiftly through various blind spots to become virtually invisible as he walked down on the train tracks and followed the tracks into the dim tunnel.
Walking through the darkness Layton focused his perception on the walls around trying to find the secret passage that led to the location he sensed earlier, the gloom and quiet did nothing to deter Layton as he took his time running through several tunnels, about half an hour later Layton finally noticed a spot on the wall that was significantly reinforced compared to the surroundings, keeping the spot in mind Layton walked around the area trying to find the entrance soon enough he found a protruding concealed rock, pressing down on the granite the concealed entrance revealed itself, walking into the dark maw that was the entrance Layton went through the straight tunnel that led to a bright opening.
It was a spacious opening with random papers littered around, drawings of formulae and graph dotted the walls and a busy figure in a white lab coat was running around making adjustments on the writing on the walls while mixing some beakers of suspicious colourful liquid which he kept pouring on some specific points of the ground at the far edge of the room was a vat of bubbling green liquid and inside the liquid was a human brain with the spine still attached, wires were connecting the liquid to a still running computer that was doing some computations.
Staring at the androgynous figure donned in a white lab coat who kept running around apparently not aware of his presence yet, Layton grew solemn although he could not sense any immediate threat or energy fluctuation from the figure but Layton had a faint feeling of eerie, looking around and Judging from the surroundings and the numerous calculations littered everywhere Layton already had a guess as to who or what was in front of him, although he did not know his rank in the holy grail war but Layton knew the figure in his sights was a scholar, a very rare path in the science federation, they were basically mad scientists, they went around using a mortal body to study and calculate the laws of various phenomena, these group of madmen in order to study laws of their choosing do crazy distorted experiments leaving countless destroyed twisted planes in their wake.
Although other forces definitely weren’t saints and had done massacres of such scale occasionally but what gave all forces a headache was that almost all individuals who followed this path were madmen, once they wanted to prove a certain theory or were interested in a certain creature they would purse the goal at all costs regardless of the consequences.
And the consequences were basically the birth of apocalyptic planes on the verge of destruction and the verge of being drawn into the abyss.
.....
In fact, there were rumours that the first scholar to ever exist created the original abyss, of course, the rumour was never confirmed but it wasn’t groundless as among the countless abyss projections and floors that littered the void quite a few were man-made either intentionally or through accidents by various individuals but the floors created by scholars accounted for a major part.
So it was not that big a stretch to say the original abyss was created by the first scholar.
The busy figure stopped while Layton was thinking and seemed to finally notice Layton’s presence as the figure said quietly in a disappointed tone “Ah so I was finally found,” the figures non-male and non-female voice gave Layton goosebumps, throwing away all distraction Layton walked closer towards the figure.
The figure seemed to have no fear or annoyance as he just stared at Layton who was walking closer and said with a hint of regret and anticipation in his tone.
“A pity, guess I can only use premature applications and hope to get more data with its use” with the figure’s words the earth started vibrating, the soil and rocks started moving, a low rumbling rang out from the depths of the earth, the sound seemed to penetrate Layton’s very soul, although his soul defence was still running but it did not prevent him from being entranced by what he perceived, listening carefully it sounded to Layton as the roar of a healthy newborn giant baby feeling full of vitality and excited at the miraculous act of coming into being, of being alive, when Layton was entranced by the roar which enhanced perception sensed and was unfortunately focused on, at the feet of Layton a huge palm stretched from the soil beneath him trying to capture him.
As Layton was distracted by the roar and the rock palm, a huge clump of soil emerged destroying the tunnel, covering the preserved brain and spine placed in the corner and also swallowing the scholar who started this chain reaction.
“Although it’s incomplete it should still be named, ah I’ve got it, tremble and witness the miracle, jotunheimr.”
