Chapter 397 - He Gave Her Courage
Chapter 397 - He Gave Her Courage
At night, Xia Yu had a dream.
She was taken back to the past where she met Huo Yun Chen for the first time.
After hanging up the phone call, Xia Yu stared at the phone in her hand with an upset look on her face. Her face was a little red and her lips were trembling slightly. It was as if Xia Yu would start to cry anytime soon.
The sound of the keys could be heard outside.
Xia Yu quickly composed herself and took out a few deep breaths. Soon, her roommate, Mo Qi Qi entered the room.
The moment she saw Xia Yu, Mo Qi Qi's face turned brighter. "Xia Yu!"
Turning around, Xia Yu flashed a smile at her roommate. "Qi Qi, you're back." Her heart was still a little chaotic but Xia Yu had hidden her feelings well.
Mo Qi Qi quickly went over to her roommate's side. "Xia Yu, are you free tonight?"
The unsuspected Xia Yu answered, "Un. What's wrong?"
The girl latched into Xia Yu's arms and blinked repeatedly. Looking at her face, Xia Yu could almost guess that she was about to fall into a trap.
"Xia Yu, accompany me to a bar."
Xia Yu was about to reject when Mo Qi Qi spoke again.
"I am meeting an online friend for the first time and was a little worried. Xia Yu, please? At least with you around, I can have someone to look after me."
Worried about her friend's safety, Xia Yu could only agree.
When the sky turned dark, the two of them headed over to the bar where Mo Qi Qi was supposed to meet her friend.
From Mo Qi Qi's story, Xia Yu learned that her friend had fallen for this online friend after interacting with him for a few months. She liked him but was worried that the man was not going to be what she had expected.
Mo Qi Qi had promised that she would only meet this guy for an hour top before they could leave together.
The sounds of upbeat and catchy music reverberated as they entered the bar.
It was Friday night and there were a lot of people around the place. As the place was quite close to their university, most of the patrons were university students.
"Will you be alright?" Xia Yu asked as Mo Qi Qi was going to meet her online friend.
Mo Qi Qi nodded. "I'll report back to you every ten minutes." She looked around and pointed in a direction. "That guy said he was going to meet me around that place. I'll stay there and will not go anywhere else."
Xia Yu nodded. "I'll keep an eye on you."
A wide smile curled on her lips. After a few seconds, Mo Qi Qi hesitated again. "Then, you..."
Xia Yu pointed to open space. There were a few tables there with a little crowd. However, the position would make it easier for her to observe everyone around the place. "I'll stay over there. Qi Qi, remember. One hour. Then, I'll come over and take you away."
Mo Qi Qi laughed but agreed with this arrangement.
Xia Yu headed to the table and ordered a few drinks and the bar's famous chicken wings. Then, she continued to look at the place where her friend was heading to.
From a distance, Xia Yu continued to keep her eyes on her friend and that guy she was seeing.
The phone on her purse buzzed. Xia Yu took out the phone and stared at the screen with a complicated look on her face.
Her mood plummeted as she recalled her conversation with her mother in the afternoon. What her mother had requested her to do was something that she could not accept.
The phone call stopped. A few seconds later, her mother sent her a message. Xia Yu stared at the words his mother had said and bit her lips tightly.
She wondered just how could her mother threaten her like this. Was she still her daughter?
The surrounding around the bar continued to be lively with the music and the chattering voice around her.
She was surrounded by many people but Xia Yu had never felt so alone.
She felt very hopeless. It seemed that no matter what she do, nothing seemed to have changed. Xia Yu closed her eyes briefly and wondered if she should just give up and listen to her mother.
Xia Yu was unwilling but she did not seem to have much choice.
She finally looked up again when she noticed that someone was approaching her. Her expression grew wary and the air around her told the people that she did not want to be disturbed.
However, Xia Yu's expression turned amiable when she noticed that the person in front of her was two women students.
"Hi," the woman with short hair greeted her. "Is there anyone sitting here?"
Xia Yu looked at the empty seat around her. "No."
"Then, do you mind if we sit here?" The woman asked again. "We just wanted to get close to the stage and watch the performance."
Xia Yu turned in the direction where that woman was pointing at. On the stage, there was a few staff preparing the equipment, and a tall man stood to chat with the staff. Because his back was facing her, Xia Yu could not see the man's face. "Alright. Go ahead."
The two women shot a thankful smile at her and sat down.
Her lips curled into a smile as she watched the two women whisper something excitedly.
Xia Yu looked in the direction where Mo Qi Qi was seated and saw that her friend was still at her table, chatting with her friend.
She turned to look at the stage again and saw that the staff had left the area. Then, the tall man picked up his guitar and stood on the stool. He flashed a bright smile at the audience as he adjusted the microphone in front of him.
Xia Yu took the chance to scrutinize the man. Now that she could see his face, Xia Yu could see that the man was indeed handsome. Perhaps, it was because of his good look that the two students wanted to sit closer to the stage.
"Hello," the man spoke through the microphone. "I'm Huo Yun Chen."
The crowd started to cheer for him as the man continued to speak a little bit about himself.
And then, he lowered his gaze and started to strum his guitar.
He looked up again and started to sing.
Xia Yu's heartbeat accelerated the moment she heard his voice and the lyrics he sang. At that moment, Xia Yu had this feeling as if this man was telling her not to give up and that everything would work out just fine if she continued to hold on.
Huo Yun Chen gave her courage.
