Combat is pretty brutal and powering scaling is a done pretty satisfyingly, since everything relies on actual skill and not “Skills” or “Levels”.World building, especially religion had me eye-rolling at the beginning whereSpoiler——one of the main antagonistic forces is a cult believing in a single ‘superior’ godFor reincarnated as a monster fans, you’ll find this series fairly satisfying although suffering from the usual tropeSpoiler——of MC eventually getting himself a human form. I read a portion of this, but dropped soon after because it was completely different than what I thought even though I read that review. He does get reincarnated as a scorpion but from birth he’s forced into a master servant contract and became a young master’s battle beast companion as he was born from an egg they had. He’s forced into many different tortuous trainings and can’t resist, and trained up for a battle beast tournament. He’ll probably get out of this situation but SpoilerI skipped a bunch of chapters and saw another person ordering him around like a slave so I’m guessing it’ll take a while . Well you can check the other person’s review and my review if you want more info in case u want to read, but I’m out for now

So so very slow, and convoluted, terms get thrown around with little explanation and from just reading the first 5 chapters I feel like I know less about what's happening than the mc. The mc has a 180 degree personality shift from violence won't get you as far as hard work and determination to slaughter happy. With almost no explanation.

Wow. Just amazing so far. This novel is ... strange... but so good. No info dumps, the story is told and we are learning about the world as the MC encounters it. Writer is one heck of a professional, a genius.The world seems to be some sort of dark sorcery thing crossed with cyberpunk. Fetishes, talismans, corporations, AI, flying carpets instead of taxis, half magic half cyberpunk drugs, that sort of thing. The MC, as told in the summary, was a slumrat who wanted to cultivate to break through to lvl 1, pass his SAT, and get a job with the local big corporation to get his brothers and sister out away from their parents and out of the slums. That story itself was simply amazing as the intro - especially with the breathrough and killing of a swarm of ghuls that creep around in the dark as one of the dangers of the slums.He does his time in the army, rated a combat savant, then goes to work for that corp as a security specialist. Think of a mix of bodyguard, SWAT, Navy Seal, and Starship Trooper (amazing novel) clad in high tech/rune covered armor. Thus the story, worldbuilding, and adventure continues.MC isn't very smart. Or good looking. The only talents he has in maintaining talismans and some sort of ultimate genius of combat and any weapon system he touches. I don't want to reveal more spoilers, so nuff said on that. Personality? Unassuming, quietly competent, highly disciplined. A silent type with self esteem issues, mostly because of his origin and parental abuse.Side characters? Not a lot in the beginning, they're there in his work - his sergeant, captain, ect. Not real in depth, his job has a lot of missions that take him away for days to a week or 2. Bodyguard someone, slaughter a building a cultist slavers while leading a team, and so forth. Then something happens and there are more permanent side characters, with a neat plot twist and "oh $hoot, no way" about the world. How cool is that lao tzu didn't see that coming?The descriptions of battle? Oh man... GREAT. Think of the novel Starship Troopers. Think of the Wheel of Time where Rand, or his father Tam in the last battle sank fully into the dance.If you're wondering if you should read it, think first of how disappointed you're going to be when there's no more chapters available yet.

I don't know why romance or harem are so often overlooked from genres and tags. I don't know about the harem, but the romance here is clearly traced when half of the time of the chapters begins to be spent on conversations with his woman, a gift for her, a gift for her, and even a typical violent reduction in time for the development of the character's strength due to the fact that her family wants to kill her right now, but she can't escape and mc must sacrifice everything to save her immediately. I understand that I cannot understand love, but these "shackles" of love make me very, very angry, because I spent so much time reading a book that was thrown out due to the lack of truthful, informative genres and tags.

I've read the MTL up to the newest chapter (2000) and it's still staying strong, interesting, and enjoyable to read. There were some grindy parts in the earlier chapters where it felt slow and the point systems are a bit wonky sometimes. still 9/10If you want to start: Read the manwha then go straight to the MTLIn general, the TL is fine except for the cultivation realms and some names are funky.

Im fully caught up as of now (Chap 104) and have just started the Webtoon/Manhua. The Catastrophic Necromancer Webtoon is definetly better imo. Whilst it does skip over some things and provides less detail in some parts, a lot of the things Skipped are either beneficial or not important.One of the big issues I had with this novel was how the academy he chooses is constantly described as being for the elite of the elite, yet they are shown as being dumb at times. In one Dungeon there is a turtle boss with a hard shell and despite YEARS of previous challengers, everyone is shocked and surprised that MC mentioned you can flip the turtle over to attack it... this conversation is just skipped entirely in the manhua. A decent amount, but not all, of the peanut gallery stuff is skipped over as well, which is always a plus.Another good thing that is skipped over, is that he is told how important points are and to never waste points on things he can get with money, yet he wastes them on a bunch of skill scrolls - the same level as ones he also buys for money. What he used to buy them is skipped over in the manhua, so it isn't an issue.On the other hand, some things that happen in the novel after being explained a bit beforehand just show up out of nowhere in the manhua. SpoilerWe get a bit of information and detail about the Abyss infiltration in the Trial Tower in the novel, but it just happens straight away without any real explanation and then after its resolved its just ignored as well.Some downsides/annoyances of the Manhua translation is the inconsistent translation of skills etc. But an authors note included references that and said they do it purposefully for "fun". Which sounds dumb to me personally, since it makes keeping track of things way more difficult for no reason. They also sometimes leave notification boxes untranslated, but that's mostly when it comes to spam notifications that are the same - they will translate at least 1 and leave the other copies in Chinese.There look to be some changes as well, such as him buying a Scythe growth weapon as equipment instead of a set of 3 items which boost his Spirit stat. In the novel he buys it straight away, since with more Spirit he can summon more Skeletons, but in the Manhua it shows the set but he says its not useless for him, then introduces this Scythe that has been in the shop for ages that he buys instead, which is supposedly part of a Necromancer set. Though that doesnt really make sense given he is the seemingly the ONLY Necromancer class there has been and it is clearly not something anyone knows anything about, as all of his skills/summons are a shock to everyone, and not even the higher ups have any clue about what his class is about at first, which means there shouldn't be any stories/ideas of a Necromancer in this world, which also doesn't really make sense either, but whatever.I generally prefer novel format to Webtoon/Manga/Manhwa/Manhua etc. But overall, I think the manhua version of this would be a better option than the novel, especially because it's apparently further ahead [though I haven't caught up yet to the same point].Edit: Have read a bit more into the Manhua now and can safely say that it is much better than the novel. A lot of the idiotic things the MC or others do doesn't happen or is skipped and he also acts a lot smarter/better too. SpoilerIn rhe novel when he is attacking the large scale Dungeon for the first time, he comes across a situation where he is sieging a castle gate thing. In the novel he realises that others must have another way to get though it, but isnt sure how and thinks to himself to ask when he goes back. In the Manhua, he realises the same thing, but instead of thinking to go back and ask, he instead just states that, with sufficient power, it doesnt matter. SpoilerAnother example is when he is carrying people through the dungeon for the first time, when he leaves them alone for a section in the novel he doesnt leave any skeletons behind to protect them, yet he does so in the Manhua.These small changes just make the MC look smarter and more considerate, even though they are super minor and don't change much overall.The biggest downside to the Manhua, which gets worse the more you read, is how the translation team don't care about consistency. When it was mainly just skill names they changed it was annoying, but manageable. But now they've even started translating other things differently for no reason. The institute he has been aiming to go to has changed from "Chuangshen Institute" to "Chuang Shen Academy" to "Creation Seminary." The "Dimensional Battlefield" changes to "Yuan Battlefield" etc.

The first 12 in a half chapters are something you can skip if you want. They are a quite boring and it is all about "woe is us" (life sucks) and the dissolution of a college that focused on ancient cultivation. The fist 12 chapters really make you want to just drop the LN if they don't turn around this negative story fast. But there is a change that happens at the end of chapter 13 that puts a positive direction to the LN. You won't really miss out on to much by just skipping to the 13th chapter.
20 chapters in and nothing has made me want to continue reading, also something about the way the novel is written/translated is so boring

Honestly it’s been really good so far, there’s no romance yet so for the people put off by the harem tag thinking this is another one of those Pokémon gotta catch them all type, dive in without fear. I don’t know about the future but I doubt it will go down that route since the MC hasn’t shown to be lusty at all. He’s dedicated to martial arts. This isn’t one of those fast cultivation novels where the MC pops pills and speed runs through the realms. In fact so far there isn’t even any concrete realm division. The way to judge his strength is through the body technique he is practicing, like stage 1 to stage 13. But we do know that there is a realm called grandmaster, just not the specifics of how they judge if you are a grandmaster. For those worried that the cultivation is painfully slow, it isn’t since he can enter this special realm filled with special substance, also a few minutes in reality feel like several years in the realm, so the MC can practice the technique in that realm for years, and the special substance transfers that progress to his real life body. At least that’s how I understand it. Of course he can’t enter that special realm anytime he wants, he needs to enter a special state where he can sense that realm, and thereby enter it. Later he finds items filled with the special substance in the real world which can help him enter that realm.
I wouldn't call everything with harem as trash, some novels like shrouded seascape has taken care of it pretty well without affecting the novels flow.

Man, this novel style is my weakness, but it can get extremely frustrating very quickly when the supposed big shot mc immortal gets clapped by literal fodder characters (and also enduring the unreadable translation, at least that was my experience back when i read it years ago, will re-read it soon!)

So far up to the most recently posted 26th chapter, while there are some cheesy aspects, overall I'm rather enjoying the story. The MC is extremely capable at what he does and his flaws are so far believable he has his stated ethics and sticks to them. The story type is similar to other novel reincarnation meshes but it is done well enough that the world building is enjoyable and everything just flows. A very enjoyable read.

I couldn't really get into this novel. It starts more or less with the MC marooned somewhere alone for 20 years, until a castaway washes up and then they travel to the kingdom. The byplay between the MC and the castaway, and then with a young boy at the adventurer's guild in the kingdom as they work together was uncomfortable to me. Too much like a boy's love novel, so I dropped it.
So I read this up till ch. 171 and I would describe it as just good enough to pass time or for if you can't find something to read.
This is seriously an underrated and commented novel. Now im not saying that it is spectacular or something but from the novels that i have read, i think this deserves more recognition. This novel reminds me of wiseman's grandchild or kenja no mago? I think that is the name. If you liked that then you will probably like this. The magic system is similar. There's science involved and the more smart you are, the more powerful your magic will be. While he is slightly less OP as the MC in wisemans grandchild he is still insanely strong. And while he is a magician, he is also insanely talented with the sword. Maybe even the most talented besides his master in pure swordmanship. It does have some cringey dialogue here and there but it's good for the most part. The author likes to mock the cliche moments that would happen in most LN and those would never happen and it leaves the MC baffled. He's not the only reincarnated person in this world. He may be immortal? Im not quite sure. There's no harem, while there is a love interest, i do not know if the author will ever progress it. It's kind of cheap because i dont really know if it can be called love, it's more on the lines of addiction so could you call someone who is addicted to you love? Anyway, i rate it 4/5. Not bad, you can find better. Oh...before i forget, the author has some weird love for food and explaining how to grow it or make it. There's like 2 filler chapters in the first 10 chapters which almost made me drop it. Just skip those chs or skim them, and there will be a few of these chapters throughout the story where the author will just talk about foods or seasonings.

I have some questions for this WN and well, I should have commented on the official site itself but that's okay too I just found out this is WN. some may be concerned about the differences between the WN and LN storylines? will there be any changes later about dantalian, I hope in the next few chapters it is still known as the Demon Lord of Different Faces and also sex addicts because honestly that part is not in LN other than shown in the prologue? then what is the fate of Christine Louise from the previous LN prologue? Will the use of affection points still be used or will the author himself take it as a sweetener and don't write it in most of the stories, because I've also experienced this phenomenon either since LN vol 3 or 4? will dantalian have a different main heroine (not lapiz lazuli)? etc. please respond and thank you very much to the author, because this is one of my favorite novels, well it feels nostalgic
well, I will give advice to WN readers, that I hope you don't expect too much about the dantalian harem, Spoiler I actually haven't read it to the end, but in terms of the story, the author always likes to use psychological attacks on the readers, I've closed the story since more than 400 chapters, when dantalian killed paimon, well it's an emotional story and I myself hope it's what if. you at the beginning of the story maybe hoping for a happy ending but as time goes on the story gets worse, where dantalian wants to run from reality and hide and barbatos tries to find him. all i know till the end is that mc has lied and betrayed too much from the start, you know i want to see at least there is a what if where all the harem is peaceful, ... and there is no bad ending. I feel sorry reading this. oh man, I still want to cry

It's hard to review this with so few chapters (11 atm) but I will give it a try (so this will be more of a first impression I guess...): It's a light academy slice-of-life story in a fantasy setting at it's heart (so far). Characters feel somewhat one dimensional and tropey, but this may be because we have so little to work with. It's very much in the world building phase, but we are being lead along as the MC discovers, so it doesn't feel like an info dump. Still it might be a little tedious to some as there isn't really that much going on at this point as each character is still being introduced.The MC is a calm and collected 'my pace' type of character, who feels little to no need to follow another's rhythm. He is challenged to start his magic carer all over again (transmigrated in a very generic way with no memory) and is forced to adapt to an unfamiliar place and situation. Given his analytic personality, this poses little problem for him as he slowly adjusts.So far I quite enjoy it as the MC just doesn't give a damn about the small-fries around him and wants to focus primarily on his passion (magic, duh...). I think I mostly comment on the MC because, well that's where most of the story is so far.I think that's all I got right now. Cheers.

Okay, yup. Although the story is about a biological warmachine learning to be a real boy, the narrative undertone is female supremecy and abuse towards men. The MC shows clear signs of being in an abusive relationship and having Stockholm Syndrome, but the symptoms were present even before he's even gotten into a relationship.It almost feels like the author grew up surrounded by and normalized to abusive female supremecy and hasn't yet realized it.I was thinking that it might be a kink thing but it feels too real. There's no special focus on it. The MC doesn't act like he's specifically seeking out that kind of stuff, not does he indulge in it. It's just a pervasive normality of women being normally horrible and nobody blinking an eye.

Every challenge has to had some rewards, growth is a good one but at some point is not enoughat what point a gritty novel is too gritty for your tastesthis book is full of misery and yeah everything is going to have a payoff at some point, why shouldn't, but with a minimum of empathy or inmertion in the story you want to stop because you can only see the kid beaten so much
