A Frontline Soldier Awakened as a Gamer In The War!

Chapter 55

Chapter 55: (2)

Dozens of arrows flew from the forest.

Kaiyan calmly deflected the arrows that were coming at him using his sword, but the other mercenaries were caught off guard and hurriedly took cover behind the carriage.

The problem was that they never thought arrows would come flying at them.

“This is unbelievable! Arrows!” he exclaimed.

“Ugh! Are those orcs? I’ve heard there are some among orcs who shoot arrows occasionally,” he mused.

‘Arrows.’

He couldn’t believe that there were monsters who not only shot arrows but also concealed themselves to launch surprise attacks.

“Banson, what should he do?” he asked.

“Heh… We should hide in the carriage until they get closer. What else can we do?” Banson replied.

Observing Banson’s hushed tone, Kaiyan noticed an arrow lodged in one of Banson’s legs.

Among the mercenaries, excluding himself, there were perhaps only three who hadn’t sustained injuries.

Engaging the enemy while already outnumbered would put them at a disadvantage.

I planned to sneak past quietly… But maybe I should demonstrate my skills.’

After a brief moment of contemplation, as he was about to unleash the restrained power within him…

“Everyone, drop your weapons and lie down!” he commanded.

“If you don’t want to die, drop your weapons!” he shouted.

‘People?’

A human voice echoed from the forest.

“Oh, damn it! they were not monsters but thieves?” he exclaimed.

“Thieves?” Banson questioned.

“It seems like there’s a gang of thieves in this area. Ha… The situation has become quite complicated,” he remarked.

Initially assuming they were monsters, Kaiyan was taken aback to discover that it was humans who had attacked them.

There was an unusual sense of unease that had lingered, and now he understood why.

“Don’t you hear the words to drop your weapons and lie down? Otherwise, I’ll kill you all!” he warned.

Swoosh.

More than thirty individuals emerged from the bushes, aiming their bows at them.

Kaiyan found it peculiar that their attire resembled that of the Union soldiers.

“Let me talk to them first,” he proposed.

“What? Kaiyan! It’s dangerous!” Banson protested.

However, given the current situation, there was no other option but to either eliminate them all or attempt negotiation.

‘I don’t have a strong inclination to kill humans.’

While it was not prohibited to kill humans when hunting monsters, he preferred not to unless there was a justifiable reason.

“Let’s have a chat for a moment,” he suggested.

“They told you to drop your weapons!” Banson reminded.

As he took slow steps forward, the thieves kept their bows trained on him.

“Dropping weapons might be a little too much… Is this enough?” he asked.

To alleviate their guard, he sheathed his sword, and the hostile expressions of the thieves softened slightly.

“Ahem, we don’t really have a strong desire to kill people. So if you just leave what you have and go, we’ll let you pass,” he proposed.

“Well… We’re escorting someone important. It seems quite difficult. Is there any other demand?” he inquired.

“That kind of stuff is not important! Leave the goods and go right away!” the thief demanded.

‘I might have to kill them.’

Although he couldn’t comprehend why they were wearing Union soldiers’ attire while engaging in thievery, as per their contract, he couldn’t hand over the upper members’ belongings.

If negotiation failed, there was only one option remaining.

Clang-

“Oh no! Shoot! Kill them!” the thief shouted.

Pop! Pop!

Kaiyan unsheathed his sword, and dozens of arrows were swiftly launched toward him, echoing the desperate cries of the thieves.

The arrows came from various directions, making it somewhat challenging.

‘Strong Downward Strike!’

With a surge of power, he executed a strong downward strike, rotating on the spot with his sword. Perhaps it could be called a powerful slash.

Whoosh!

Thunk.

The arrows were futilely deflected.

Most of them couldn’t even come close due to the air pressure generated by his sword, while even the ones that managed to approach were deflected and fell to the ground.

“Ugh! Shoot again! Quickly!” the thieves urged.

“We can’t keep doing this!” he retorted.

Pshh!

With a forceful strike against the ground, he swiftly charged toward the desperate thieves.

Since the disadvantage of bows was their ineffectiveness in close quarters, those thieves wouldn’t be able to shoot arrows at him. Moreover, there was a risk of hitting their comrades.

“Ugh! Die!” the thief yelled.

The thieves, driven by anger over the death of their comrade, attacked indiscriminately with their crude spears and swords. Witnessing this, Kaiyan couldn’t help but let out a laugh.

‘Attacking to kill and mourning the death of a comrade?’

When one resolved to kill someone, they should be prepared for the same fate. That was only natural.

Swish-

A spear aimed straight at his heart.

He twisted his body to the right, causing the spear to miss its mark. It was a straightforward attack without any tricks.

When facing such foes, he didn’t need to rely on his instincts. Simply seeing and evading with his eyes was sufficient.

‘Strong Downward Strike!’

Phwoosh!

“Kraaack!”

“Monster! It’s a monster!” the thieves exclaimed.

With one powerful blow containing the force of his skill, the spears fell to the ground, and the lives of the thieves were extinguished. It felt similar to facing a group of goblins, albeit with a slight difference — these thieves were a little more intelligent.

“Kaiyan! We’ll take care of the rear!” Bisel shouted.

While Kaiyan was decimating the thieves, Bisel’s voice reached his ears from behind.

It seemed that the thieves who were supposed to attack from the rear were not making any moves.

The mercenaries, with their injured bodies, had joined the fray to assist.

‘They needn’t have intervened.’

He appreciated their concern, but he worried that unnecessary casualties might arise among the mercenaries. He had stepped forward to protect them, and if they also advanced, it would be a futile endeavor.

‘Then I must finish this quickly.’

“Kraaaack!”

“My… my arm!”

“We don’t have time to play around!” he declared.

Gripping his sword tightly, he felt a surge of strength coursing through his hand. Although he had been somewhat relaxed until now, the presence of the mercenaries behind him heightened his sense of urgency.

‘Penetrating Stab!’josei

Phoook!

“Kreugh… Monster…”

“Such words I’ve heard plenty. Is there only one left?” he asked.

Out of the twenty thieves who had blocked their path, only one remained in his original position. The remaining nineteen had departed this world, their blood spraying like fountains due to the strike of Kaiyan’s sword.

“Then you…”

“Centurion Kaiyan! Spare me!” the thief pleaded.

“What…?” Kaiyan was taken aback.

Pausing his sword mid-swing, he stared at the thief, who desperately began to speak.

“Centurion Kaiyan! Don’t you remember? I’m from the 7th Special Unit!”
