Chapter 221: What Was Your Plan?

"You have to be kidding me," Chen Yue breathed. "It was you, wasn't it?" she seethed as her beady eyes turned to Yun Qian Meng. "You were the one waving the stick all this time!" she said.

"I had nothing to do with this. Mr. Bai anticipated this day and he took action to safeguard himself. You didn't allow him time to inform you. You attacked without thinking of the consequences." She sighed. "To think he was still trying to protect you despite knowing you would want to kill him." All this time, she spoke to Bai Ye Qing.

"I need to talk to him," Chen Yue protested. "There is no need for all of this…" she was on the verge of tears.

"I am sorry. I am not the one calling the shots here. Uncle Bai has made his decision already." Qian Meng paused. "The real reason why I am here is because the police need permission for the autopsy—"

No sooner had the words left her mouth than Chen Yue was screaming, panicked. "You said Bai Yu was alive and he woke up. Then what is this autopsy about? Are you lying to me?" she asked.

Bai Ye Qing on the other hand felt a cold hand grip his heart.

"If you allowed Miss Yun to finish, you would know the real story," the lawyer said with a sigh. "As part of the investigation, the police need to exhume our eldest son, Bai Wenxi's body."

"No-no way! He died at such a young age and you want to bring him out from his resting place and cut him up? What kind of disgraceful thing are you asking permission for?" she asked, her eyes reddening.

Qian Meng could see that there was some shred of love for the older son, no matter how much she protected the younger one. She didn't feel any sympathy for this woman though.

"Yes, he died at a very young age. Usually, for medical and police purposes, an autopsy is done on the body, but on the family's insistence, nothing of the sort was done. With the turn of events, we will need your permission to do so."

Chen Yue's eyes cooled. "What are you looking for?" she asked. "I will not give you permission for this. Leave my son alone. He's at peace now."

Qian Meng turned to look at Bai Ye Qing. "What do you say, do you think your brother is at peace?" she asked provocatively.

He turned sharply to her. "Shut up," he gritted through his teeth.

Chen Yue noticed the exchange of glances. "What does that mean? Why would you ask Ye Qing?"

Qian Meng wanted to roll her eyes. "I am sure you already know that your younger son is suspected of murdering your elder son. You don't need to play dumb."

"What nonsense. You're just slandering us at this point!" she said. It had been said before but she refused to believe it.

"Maybe the autopsy will help convince you?" Qian Meng prompted.

"Absolutely not. You won't get it from me." She leaned back into her chair and pressed her lips together into a line. That was that.

Qian Meng turned to the lawyer and gave him a look. He sighed and nodded, understanding what she meant.

"Well, there is nothing more to discuss, then. We will leave now," he said.

The two arrested people were at a loss. They had called over the lawyer to get legal help but at the end of the meeting, they were left with no stake in the family money or a lawyer. They had ended up with less than they had. Bai Ye Qing looked at the table as he tried to figure out what to do.

The three left and there was silence in the room.

"Ye Qing, what are we supposed to do now?" she asked.

He shook his head. "You still have the bank account, don't you? We can use the money there to get a lawyer," he said quietly.

Chen Yue startled for a minute. "Can we afford it?" she whispered.

Before he could answer, the police officers came in and separated them.

"Someone wants to talk to you," they said to Bai Ye Qing. He raised his brow but didn't protest. He was taken to another smaller room. There was no one-sided glass for people to look in and the stoic officer who brought him in was standing on one side.

Mo Qingchen had been waiting inside. With his legs crossed and the leisurely expression on his face, Bai Ye Qing found himself comparing to him once again.

"What do you want with me?" he asked. He had no enmity with this man apart from the relationship with his sister. He could think of no reason for him to come here.

"Guess," Mo Qingchen said. He looked at this puny man and wondered how he had reigned terror in Yun Qian Meng's life for that long. While others couldn't see his anger, Mo Qingchen curled his fingers into a fist. He kept them on his knee, not allowing Bai Ye Qing to see the change in his demeanor.

"Is this about your sister? I really didn't know it was her."

Ah, now that Mo Qingchen thought about it. This guy had also tried to dupe his sister. How had he glossed over that bit?

"Ah, you remind me," Mo Qingchen's lip quirked up. "You made it worse for yourself."

"Mr. Mo. I have no enmity with you. Why did you come to meet me?" he asked.

"You're an idiot, that's why you think that," Mo Qingchen began. "I heard the threats you made. How many voice messages did you send, again?" he asked.

Bai Ye Qing looked confused. "You dared to call back and threaten my fiancé. You threatened to hurt her and you think you didn't do anything wrong." He couldn't believe it.

"Your… fiancé?" he stuttered.

"But tell me, what was your plan?" he asked.
