Chapter 405: Natives (2)
"Urgent report! The Luna Device detected a horde coming from the north. HQ, please reply!" said the member of the vanguards dispatched outside for patrolling task.
It's been a week since the day they noticed what the natives could do with the virus carriers.
There are a few small battles between the vanguards against the natives in these seven days. But while it was just a small-scale battlefield with thousand or so zombies and Tyrants, the difficulty level was about the same as the Beacon's Battle.
Even Zhang Qin Feng was surprised by how precise is the native's control over the virus carriers under their command. The battle was as if they were battling a hive of ants on their own.
Unable to find the correct term to label the natives, Alex, Zhang Tianci, and Tianhuo collectively agreed to name the virus carriers under the native's direct order as a "Horde."
Then, these hordes were further evaluated accordingly to their threat level.
The first threat level is "Zombie Horde." This category would be assigned to a pack with ten Tyrants or less. A horde like this can be easily defended as long the vanguards were given enough preparation time and weaponry to go against them.
Following next was the "Combination Horde." As long the pack contained between fifty to a hundred Tyrants in them, they'll automatically be categorized here. Escape was their only choice if they met with a horde of this level.
To make it worst, it was said that some natives with the power to control hordes of only Tyrants were out there. Although the HQ has yet to encounter one of them, a threat category was issued as a precaution.
The officers all agreed to call this a "Tyrant Horde." There's only one requirement for the native to fall into this designation, and that's by only having Tyrants in their pack. As long as more than a hundred Tyrants and above, they'll automatically be labeled as such.
"This is the HQ, over. What's the horde's category?" a reply came in less than five seconds after the report. From its look, Zhang Qin Feng had invested quite a lot of manpower to keep the communication together.
And in the short one-week period, the Operation Base has been expanding above and below the surface.
Above ground was a simple but efficient forward base with an engineering and research facility. While under the surface level, the technology used by shelter No: 213 was applied over here. A few cloning vats from the older generation were also brought here for it to be used efficiently.
With the capacity of around twenty-five adult clones that can be produced in a matter of a week, this helped push the number of workers and soldiers forward.
He had a feeling that he was taking the spot of the god here. But the thought about making this world a better place pushes Zhang Qin Feng forward as he keeps the cloning facility running.
Not forgetting to mention, the below-surface facility also comes with their first external branch of Prismatic Crystal Production Facility. And to make sure that this facility could run efficiently as the one back in shelter No: 213, a clone of Lucian was made and dispatched to lead this team.
With these two teams helping one another, all Zhang Qin Feng needed to be worrying about was how long would it take for him to control the entire island.
"Report, HQ. First horde, Zombie-Category. Second horde, Zombie-Category. Suspecting third horde coming closer. Please reply." the communication quickly returned as the number of zombie pack steadily increased.
"Base Leader, your order?" the communication personnel turned around and awaited Alex's decision. The team leader that once led the vanguard team back in Strand Continent was now promoted to the leader of this Operation Base, overseeing everything they're doing here.
"How many vanguard's units were deployed nearby? And what is their status?" asked Alex. It seems that all his recklessness back then was gone after accepting the position as the Base Leader. The current Alex can be said to have the quality of what Satella used to have before this.
Calm, careful, and precise.
Furthermore, their opponent was not brainless zombies and Tyrants like before. It was unsure if the virus carriers were slowly mutating or evolving. Still, compared to back then, the zombies are indeed getting harder to defeat.
Even with arsenals much more advanced than half a year ago, they were barely capable of withstanding their attack.
"Reporting to the base leader, there are four teams around the seventeenth zone. Two out of them reported the sight of five hordes in total." the supervisor of the group of communication personnel handling this zone.
If someone were to evaluate them based on their placement, they would notice six aisles in total.
Five aisles of officers were grouping up as they surrounded the middle aisle. This was also the exact placement of the vanguards and their precise position on this island.
Although it was said to be the seventeenth zone, it was, in fact, one of the five zones assaulted by the vanguard forces right now. The seventeenth zone was also the one situated right in front of Alex's aisle.
As for the two on the left and right, they're the thirteenth to the sixteenth zone. As for the second zone until the twelfth zone, everything was annexed by the first zone after it was reported fully in control.
"Sent out two more teams to the seventeenth zone. Move the two idle teams to provide the necessary support. Set the time to fifteen minutes. If the number of virus carriers continues to increase, order all units to pull back until we deliver enough firepower support to control that zone." said Alex.
After giving out the order in a precise and calm manner, Alex pulled a tablet computer out from his seat's armrest and fiddled with the information inside there. He looked like he was filling in a shopping list before pressing the finalizing button.
Indeed, after the request was transferred across a few signal towers until it arrived at the Vermilion Empress, the personnel working in Victor's department was the first to complain.
"Can someone just tell the Operation Base leader to not order the vehicles in double digits?" the personnel yelled.
