Chapter 406: Natives (3)
"Are you even in the proper position to complain about the Base Leader's order? I'm sure the Engineering Department had it worst." another personnel in the department interrupted. As so many people are working in this factory right now, they could afford to get talkative for a few seconds.
It's not like Victor was around monitoring them to the point they're no different from a slave.
Furthermore, with the level of technology they controlled, the personnel don't even need to be present inside the factory, bearing the heat and noise from the machines.
They're simply required to control the operator robot for precise production and Builder's Frame for heavier tasks. And to make it even better, Zhang Qin Feng was a much better employer. Although they could hardly understand why Zhang Qin Feng was heavily inclined to treat them as humanely as possible.
Since it was pointless for them to get their curiosity answered, they would prefer to work it out and repay Zhang Qin Feng back with their effort.
Just like what the two personnel said, those in the Engineering Department complained when Alex's order came into their controller's headpiece.
"Twelve APVs? What was the Base Leader thinking? Does he assume we're a vehicle production factory? Don't he know we have more to do besides producing APVs to the frontline?" said the supervisor, who had to delegate some people to start working on the order.
Unlike Victor's Department, where everything can be produced in an orderly manner, everything in Marvin's department had to be pre-fabricated, molded, and cut before assembling. Furthermore, in the number of parts, storage space, and tests, everything was handled by their department.
And this was just a tiny fraction of what Marvin's Department was doing. They were also in charge of the new Prismatic Generator's casing and production, shipbuilding, and base-building.
Marvin's department is about the size of a horde controlled by the native. And that's excluded the people like Adam and Frank, where their concern focused more on the shipyard that kept producing more ships for Zhang Qin Feng.
"Boss! You're joking!" as expected, the workers complained once the supervisor delegated twenty personnel to start working on Alex's order.
-----
"Base Leader! Two teams were sent out to the seventeenth zone." one of the officers inside the office reported. And before he returned to his seat, another officer stood up and continued.
"Seventeenth Zone Controller reporting. The two vanguards teams were battling the horde right now. From their report, the third horde is approaching them at a considerable speed." the officer said.
"How many Tyrants were spotted so far?" Alex asked while pulling the tablet computer out from the armrest again. Not even ten minutes had passed after he sent his shopping order.
"Twenty-five, Sir!" the seventeenth zone supervisor answered.
"That number should be still manageable by their firepower… Let's hope nothing happened while the support is still on their way." Alex continued while his attention was all on the computer's screen.
There were a total of sixteen different images shown on the screen, and out of them, ten were in a heated battle against the zombies and weapon-wielding Tyrants.
Although their weapon isn't considerably advanced, it still packs a punch when they hit their target.
In the first week's encounter against the native's personnel forces, Alex and the others were taught a painful lesson. Half of the APVs were totaled by the native's weapon since the Tyrants have no qualm about getting attacked while aiming at their targets.
Furthermore, it seems that the Tyrants under the native's order had quite an affinity for heavy weaponry. From Minigun to guided defensive missiles, each Tyrant was akin to a walking tank or APV on the battlefield.
To make it worst, the defensive of these Tyrants is what makes this battle harder. While they're pretty durable, some of them had ridiculous defensive power and regeneration, to the point they could compete with the Tyrant Variant.
"Sir, the two other teams joined the battle. But we have another problem right now. Another group had engaged against the horde at their side." an officer said.
The following report complicates the situation as they're now forced to divide their numbers into two different battlefields.
Although the situation was still manageable for now, all it took was a quick change in the wind to turn the battle around in the native's favor. Just like Zhang Qin Feng's advanced arsenals, the natives also had their own secret weapons that they could use.
For example, hurling several zombies forward to quickly spread their influence in a specific area. Such a crude tactic was a suicide mission, but what does a dead zombie have to worry about?
This kind of tactic was their forte, their bread, and crumbs.
They were born and made to make this works. And when it comes to explosives, everything escalated by ten to hundredfolds.
"Activates your Leidenfrost Curtain!" shouted one of the vanguard team leaders.
Precisely a minute after Alex was thinking about the worst tactic his opponent could employ, it was used against them. The second battlefield might only have five Tyrants in the horde, but they had a lot of zombies.
The area around the second battlefield was filled with the sound of the bomb detonated in clusters. The deafening sound could terrify even the most veteran soldier present in the room, let aside those standing on the battlefield.
"Pull that team out before they died over there. And get one of the team to provide the team with some backup." Alex said. There's no problem splitting their power into two since both teams rushed into the battlefield on their APVs.
But as the vanguard team on the second battlefield were preparing to retreat, a dreadful concrete slab came like a flying guillotine. It turned the APV into a pile of worthless junk.
"HQ, over! Our APV is destroyed! I repeat, our APV is destroyed!"
"Requesting backup immediately! We'll be retreating on foot. Our coordinate is at…"
"Bzzt…"
The communication disconnected before the sentence was fully delivered. In this case, there are only two possibilities that could happen.
Either the vanguard team leader got his hand chopped off, or the electronic jamming signal had spread out and cut their communication apart.
And from the look of it, the chance of the former happening is much likely.
