Chapter 96 : Invention of Barren Land Security Devices - Part 1
The Intelligence Academy uniform was a clear symbol of distinction, setting its students apart.
It consisted of a clean, simple white outfit, with the defining feature being a bold blue stripe running vertically from the chest down to the toe on the left side.
The pristine white fabric symbolized clarity and impartiality, while the striking blue stripe represented the intellect and wisdom that the students were meant to cultivate.
Amid the animated conversations of the students, a young girl with bright, eager eyes gathered her friends.
They looked at her with a mix of curiosity and impatience, waiting for her to reveal what had caught her attention.
"What's up?" a boy among her friends asked, his tone a blend of curiosity and exasperation. "You always make a fuss before sharing news. Just spill it already."
Unfazed by her friend's impatience, the girl huffed and launched into her revelation, hoping to capture their interest. "Do you all hear?" She spoke dramatically, her friends hanging on her every word.
"What's there to hear?" another boy responded, rolling his eyes. "Just tell us, and don't keep us in suspense."
Displeased by the lukewarm response to her dramatic setup, the girl gathered herself, determined to share her news.
"Fine, I'll just go ahead and tell you. The sect master has called Ai and Aiguo to his courtyard," she announced, expecting gasps and shocked expressions from her friends.
However, the reaction she received was far from what she anticipated. Instead of the expected surprise, her friends looked at her with a mixture of disappointment and amusement.
The same boy who had rolled his eyes earlier was particularly unimpressed and voiced his disappointment with her revelation.
"So, that's it?" he remarked, his tone filled with disillusionment. "You made it sound like it was something big. It's just Ai and Aiguo being called by the sect master. We knew that hours ago." With that, he turned away and went back to his seat, leaving the girl disheartened.
Feeling confused and hurt by her friends' reaction, the girl was left standing there with her mouth agape.
She couldn't understand why her dramatic revelation had been met with such indifference and a lack of enthusiasm.
One by one, her friends departed, leaving her behind, and she muttered to herself in bewilderment. She couldn't fathom why her shocking news had turned out to be such a disappointment.
Finally, one of the last students to leave couldn't help but overhear her muttering. He turned to her and offered an explanation.
"You see, the news of Ai and Aiguo being summoned by the sect master spread throughout the academy hours ago. What you shared isn't new to us; it's old news." He added with a hint of condescension, "Tsk, outdated intelligence."
This revelation left the girl in shock, and she stood there with her jaw hanging open, wondering how she had missed such a crucial piece of information.
Shaken from her daze, she approached one of her closest friends and inquired about how they had heard the news earlier.
It was then that she learned that one of the deacons had casually mentioned it while conversing with a fellow student.
The realization that she had been the last to know left her feeling disheartened, and she watched as her friends continued with their tasks, no longer paying her any attention.
Unbeknownst to them, Ai and Aiguo were not in the sect master's courtyard. They had long departed from the courtyard to the sect's main hall.
Inside the main hall, Su Yen sat on his throne with two young stars on his left. His sharp gaze looked at the confused elders.
The elders were not looking at Su Yen but at Ai and Aiguo. There was nothing special about them except for the strange metal they held in their hands. On their other hands was the image crystal.
The impatient elder, Su Feng, asked quickly, "Sect master, please stop keeping us in suspense. We will die of curiosity if this continues."
Su Yen had the corners of his lips curled into a smile. Clearing his throat, he said, "I've completed the device for the citizenship registration and the identification device for the Police."
The elders were stunned for a couple of seconds and turned their gaze to Ai and Aiguo once again to recheck them.
Is that the device?
"Ai and Aiguo are two of my brightest students. They will lead the registration and teach others how to use this device," Su Yen said, not surprised by their stupefied gaze.
"Elder brother should be the first person to test the registration," Su Yen said, looking in Su Ming's direction.
Su Ming didn't flinch and stood from his seat, approaching Ai and Aiguo. Watching the powerful aura emanating from Su Ming, the ordinary Ai and Aiguo were trembling.
"Elder brother," Su Lan called out in exasperation.
"What?" Su Ming halted in his tracks and looked at his little sister in confusion.
Su Lan saw the confusion on her brother's face and realized he didn't know. She gasped and almost slapped her forehead. "Your aura."
It was then the realization dawned on him. He rubbed the back of his head in shame before clearing his throat.
He straightened his back and withdrew his aura and said, "Sorry about that."
The elders rolled their eyes at Su Ming's clumsiness and sighed. Su Ming may be a genius, but his clumsiness sometimes warranted others wanting to give him a beating.
Ai and Aiguo didn't respond as they only nodded with a sigh of relief.
"P-Pleaseā¦stand... Look at the image crystal and answer the necessary questions," Ai said with a trembling voice.
Su Ming nodded and stood a couple of feet from her. He looked at the image crystal she raised with her left hand, a slight puzzlement on his face.
Ai had sent her consciousness into the Spirit Mirror. At once, the one blank surface Spirit Mirror turned into a registration portal with the eye-catching logo of the Celestial Heavenly sect on the left side.
Ai asked Su Ming his name, clan, and other necessary details to prove his identity. Listening to all the questions, all the elders were amazed.
They realized that with this information, it would be difficult for people to disguise themselves as others.
"I'm done," Ai said.
