Chapter 426 - Utterly Lost to Win Her Heart (2)
This was the second time this had happened and Yun Zhen wasn't sure if it was Tang Moyu's doing, but he doubted it. The news about him and the empress had simultaneously disappeared from every social media platform and search engines. His eyes sharpened at the thought of the possibility that he had an unknown rival, fighting for the empress's heart.
Was he already too late? He wondered. Was this the reason why Tang Moyu rejected him and had chosen not to uphold her promise to him when they were younger?
Yun Zhen berated himself inwardly. He must really be a fool to expect her to take responsibility for it and hold onto her promise. Just like what Tang Moyu said, she was nothing but a child when she made that promise, and he cannot force her to take action on the spoken promise.
However, that didn't mean that he would easily give up on her, not when there hadn't been a wedding ring gracing her ring finger, tying her effectively to another man. He wouldn't admit defeat until he knew that he had utterly lost to win her heart.
Yun Zhen suddenly felt confused. He wanted Tang Moyu to love him, but on what basis? Any other woman would willingly throw herself to him, but she wouldn't. She was one of those rare women who seemed immune by his charm and didn't give a damn of what he had.
Tang Moyu had retained her cold aura, but the thorns that were wrapped around her was gone, giving her cold personality a hint of charm for the opposite s.e.x who wanted to pursue her.
He had sent Tang Moyu a text message, but there was no reply on her end. Was she busy? He wondered. He frowned and laid his phone down and rested his chin, but was unable to resist sending another message to the empress.
Yun Zhen could only knit his brows in frustration. He had been staring at his screen for some time now and hadn't noticed that the conference room had fallen silent.
Yun Zhen raised his head to stare at the director standing in front, presenting his monthly report and said, "continue."
The director cleared his throat awkwardly and glanced at Su Jingyi for help.
"But President Yun, I've already said it twice…" Making the atmosphere within the room more awkward than it already was.
Yun Zhen was momentarily stunned, then turned his head to look at Su Jingyi. Su Jingyi let out a sigh and flipped the papers in her hand. Yun Zhen's assistant was quick and pushed his own notebook to President Yun at once.
With lightning speed, Yun Zhen read the records written down and understood the report at once. as well as the proposal the director suggested.
"Does anyone have any objection to this proposal?" He calmly asked the board, his eyes then shifting to Su Jingyi, who hadn't uttered a single word to him since he stepped inside the conference room. He found it weird that this woman was giving him a cold shoulder, as if she would rather be somewhere else.
Seeing that no one voiced their objection, Yun Zhen made a decision.
"Since none of you are objecting, I will consider the proposal. Director Su and I will study the proposal and the plan before giving it a go."
The meeting continued and Yun Zhen fought hard to concentrate on it, refusing to glance at his phone to check if Tang Moyu answered his messages.
"There was a slow drop in the progress of the construction, but that's already expected. Please send me a copy of the report as soon as you can so I would be able to give a comprehensive plan to follow later." Su Jingyi said, clasping her hands together as she gave Yun Zhen a side glance to remind him to focus on what they were currently discussing.
Seeing that their president had nothing to say, the directors of their subsidiary companies could only sigh and listen to Su Jinyi's suggestions. People used to say that Tang Moyu was incomparable, but that was probably because they hadn't met or known about Su Jingyi.
Unlike the empress, Su Jingyi's name was unpopular, but she had been working alongside Yun Zhen ever since he took over the management of the Yun Group. Only those who worked with her could tell that Yun Zhen certainly didn't need to lure Tang Moyu to his side because they already have the capable Su Jingyi on their team.
The meeting was adjourned, but Yun Zhen and Su Jingyi remained in their seats, allowing their assistants to tidy up the files they needed.
"Yun Zhen, I know I don't need to remind you to set your priorities straight. But, I cannot keep up covering after you every single time." Su Jingyi rose to her feet and thanked Yun Zhen's assistant for the files he'd organized for her.
"I'll keep it in mind." Yun Zhen replied before taking his phone, his face fell upon seeing that there was no response from Tang Moyu.
Looking at his pathetic state, Su Jingyi shook her head and stepped out of the conference room with her assistant. Along the way, she accidentally overheard the secretaries talking about the rumors between their President Yun and Tang Moyu.
"It's a pity though. President Yun also looks good with Director Su. I wonder why they never hit off. Do you think she's jealous now?"
They immediately stopped when they saw Su Jingyi raising a brow at them. They muttered apologies before running away, embarrassed that they'd been caught gossiping at work.
Su Jingyi stepped inside the elevator, saw her reflection, and smiled wryly. Did she even have the right to get jealous?
