Chapter 71

“Why? She saved your life.” Jalen looked at her, with no more tenderness in his eyes.

Marie smiled bitterly and looked up at Jalen. “Why? Why do you think it is?”

“Jalen, we have known each other for so many years. Do you not know how I feel about you?” she roared.

Jalen frowned, displeased. “I remember making myself clear a long time ago. I only see you as my sist er and nothing else.”

He thought that Marie knew what he meant. After all, she had never brought this up again.

Unexpectedly…

“Yes, you rejected me a long time ago.” Marie nodded and couldn’t even force a smile. “But I love you. How

can I be willing to give up?”

“So you did that to her?” Jalen frowned again. “You should have come straight at me. What does this h ave to

do with her?”

Marie raised her hand and wiped the tears that almost fell down. “Jalen, I know you too well. Although you

won’t admit it, I can tell that you treat Dr. Gainsford differently.

“But I can’t accept it. You and she have only known each other for a short time. You were once husband and wife, but so what? If you are the right one for each other, you would not have divorced.

“Since you have divorced, it means that you are not meant for each other. Then why did you meet again?”

Marie really could not understand it. She felt that fate was playing tricks on everyone.

Jalen’s expression became grimmer because of her words. He stared at her. “You know that she is my

ex–wife? When did you know?”

“When I went to the Halton Group to find you, I heard your conversation with Graham,” she replied.

Marie seemed tired. She walked to the sofa and sat down. “Jalen, what do you plan to do with me? Will you

give me to Dr. Gainsford? Or the police?

“Don’t worry, I remember how good you are to me. No matter what your decision is, I won’t blame you.”

She only blamed that woman, Elaina.

Since Elaina and Jalen had divorced, she should not have shown up in front of Jalen again.

Before coming here, Jalen had also been thinking about this thing.

Marie’s brother Kian had saved him. Before Kian died, his only wish was for Jalen to take good care of his

only sister. Jalen had given Kian his promise.

But…

Elaina would definitely not let Marie off easily.

While Jalen was deep in thought, Marie actually looked calm, as if she was prepared for the worst.

After an unknown period of time, Jalen slowly said, “Pack up and leave for another country tonight. I have chosen a school for you over there. You ar e not allowed to return without my permission.”

Hearing his reply, Marie did not know if she should feel happy or sad.

In the end, Jalen let her off for the sake of her brother.

But she might be unable to come back home again once she left, which was extremely heart– wrenching for

her.

“What if I don’t want to go?” she asked tentatively, trying to grasp at straws.

However, Jalen’s face turned cold because of her words. “If you want to be destroyed, I won’t stop you.”

He had already done what he could. If Marie didn’t listen to him, there was nothing he could do about it. And

Kian’s soul couldn’t blame him for it.

“Okay, I’ll go.”

Marie believed that where there was life, there was hope.

Elaina…

Sooner or later, she, Marie, would come back.

At eight o’clock in the evening, Elaina recovered her energy after a good sleep. She thought of what happened

during the day, and her eyes became cold.

She took out her phone and dialed a number.

“Theodore, are you interested in swallowing up the Dunston family?”

Elaina was sure that Jalen would protect Marie. She did not mind getting back at Jalen at the same time
