Chapter 1020

The waiter handed the bill to Estelle, making the director a bit awkward as he tried to take it, “Maybe I should foot the bill!”

“No, thanks!” Estelle replied with a laugh, taking the bill and getting ready to pay.

Craig asked in a low voice, “Are you sure you can afford it?”

“Absolutely!” Estelle nodded.

Gwen and Clarice exchanged glances, and Clarice mocked, “This girl really knows how to play it cool, I thought she was gonna blow a fuse right here!”

Clarice said a bit disappointedly, “Looks like she really does have enough dough to cover the bill.”

Gwen didn’t seem surprised, knowing that Estelle had been with Jonathan for quite some time, how could Jonathan let her be short of cash?

The director gave a nod to Mr. Kress, who got the hint and promptly stepped up, saying considerately to Estelle, “Estelle, you just graduated, you can’t possibly have that much money, let me take care of it.”

He made a move to pay, expecting Estelle to stop him, but she didn’t make any move to do so.

He turned around and asked tentatively, “Estelle, is it okay if I cover this?”

Estelle nodded, “Sure, thank you, Mr. Kress!”

Mr. Kress’s smile froze on his face. He could have paid for Estelle, but her reaction made him feel something was off.

The others all chimed in “You’re quite the big spender!””

Having spoken out, Mr. Kress couldn’t back down now, so he reluctantly paid the hefty sum of 310,000.

It almost gave him a heart attack.

Mr. Tucker gave Mr. Kress a friendly pat, joking, “This is the first time I’ve seen you splurge like this.”

Mr. Kress gave an awkward laugh, intending to explain to Estelle that all his actions were for her sake, but found that she had already left without a hint of gratitude.

Craig followed Estelle, looking back at Mr. Kress and said gleefully, “Estelle, did you know this was a setup by Mr. Kress and Clarice?”

Clarice’s plan was, thinking Estelle didn’t have enough cash to cover the wine, they assumed she’d freak out at the price, and then Mr. Kress would swoop in to save the day. But considering Estelle’s character, she wouldn’t let Mr. Kress pay for her, so the most likely thing would be for her to borrow the money from him.

Once Estelle borrowed money from Mr. Kress, she’d be tangled up with him.

They never thought that Estelle would be so direct and actually let Mr. Kress foot the bill.

Until they left the hotel, Mr. Kress’s face was still pretty grim.

Just like Estelle had predicted, Mr. Kress actually thought she would borrow money from him, not have him cover the cost of the wine. Even though he had paid, Estelle showed no gratitude and continued to ignore him, which really ticked Mr. Kress off.

On his way home, Mr. Kress couldn’t help but call Clarice, “What the hell? Didn’t you say Estelle would never let me pay the bill?”

Clarice mumbled, “I had no idea she would do that!”

Mr. Kress gritted his teeth, “What about my 310,000? You suggested it, you pay me back!”

Clarice scoffed, “Mr. Kress, you chose to pursue Estelle, if you’re not willing to part with 310,000, I suggest you give up.”

With that, she hung up the phone. She was pissed. Gwen had made the suggestion too, but Mr. Kress didn’t dare to blame Gwen, so he took it out on her!
