She stepped into the ward and caught sight of a dude in a dark blue shirt, sitting in the room, chitchatting with her mom
Emily freaked out, busted in there, and asked nervously, “What are you doing here?”
Charlie looked up, his handsome face devoid of any emotion, “Heard your mom was in the hospital, thought I’d drop by. Why the panic?”
Gina cut in hastily, “Emily, Mr. James is here to see me. Why are you being so rude?”
Emily had a hunch that Charlie was up to no good, and didn’t let her guard down, “Thanks, Mr. James, but you’re a busy man. We won’t keep you.”
“No rush. Charlie remained cool as a cucumber, not giving anything away to Gina.
There were a fruit basket and a bouquet of flowers by the bed, apparently brought by Charlie.
The ward had two beds, the other occupied by a girl taking care of her mother. The two families had been roommates for a while and got along well. The girl curiously glanced over, her eyes scanning Charlie.
After all, someone like Charlie tended to attract attention wherever he went.

Feeling his gaze on her, Emily’s heart skipped a beat and she bolted.
Gina laughed at Charlie, “Emily is still the same, always in a hurry and straightforward with her words. Don’t take it to heart, Mr. James.”
“No problem!” Charlie grinned, “I’m used to it.”
Gina let out a sigh, “I owe Emily so much. I’m sick now, and she’s left her own child to care for me everyday. I feel terrible.”
This had been weighing on Gina for a long time. Seeing Charlie today, she just spilled the beans, regardless of whether it was appropriate or not.
Charlie hesitated, then said, “Her child…”
Gina didn’t know who the father of Emily’s child was, she felt a lump in her throat, and guilt washed over her, “I forced her to go abroad. If she hadn’t, she wouldn’t have returned with a fatherless child.”

Dr. Martin gave Charlie another look, gave him a slight nod, then asked Gina, “Where’s Emily?”
