Chapter 1188

Even under dim lights, even among a sea of people, he could spot her in a heartbeat.

Seeing the girl dolled up and nestled in Manley’s arms, a chill ran down Jonathan’s spine. His eyes turned cold and terrifying.

She claimed she was heading back to work on some blueprints, but in a blink of an eye, she had changed into a stunning outfit and was now cozying up with another man.

When she was with him, she never bothered to dress up. Her clothes were as casual as ever. But when she was with Manley, she would dress up and even put on makeup. Did Manley mean more to her than he did?

He knew there were barriers between them. He thought she was just not ready to let go, but it wasn’t that simple.

Anger bubbled up in Jonathan’s heart; his lips tightened, and his eyes filled with coldness.

He couldn’t tell whether he was more angry or more hurt. He couldn’t move on.

He watched her, watching her laugh it up with Marley, her eyes vivid, her face relaxed. And there he was, standing on high, like he’d just walked out of a freezing abyss.

When the song ended, Manley left with Estelle, asking, “Hungry? Let’s grab some grub.”

Estelle had too much to drink and felt a bit queasy after dancing for a while.

“Let’s bounce!” Manley said, pulling her hand towards the exit.

The dinner and cocktail party were separated by a small garden. When Estelle stepped out of the banquet hall, she breathed in the fresh air, feeling a bit dizzy. She stopped and said with a chuckle, “Let’s chill here for a bit.”

“Not feeling good?” Manley looked at her, frowning.

“Nah, I just want to sit here for a bit,” Estelle replied.

“Cool” Manley smiled and led her to a bench under a tree.

Across them was a fountain. The night wind carried the mist from the fountain. Estelle took a deep breath, trying to suppress the alcohol in her stomach.

“Tipsy?” Manley asked, concerned.

Estelle shook her head. “Nah, I’m just not used to it.”

While dancing, the dim lights and the crowd made her feel suffocated.

“I won’t drag you to dance anymore!” Manley said that, touching her forehead and feeling it damp and cold, he couldn’t help but feel sympathy. “Lean on me. I’ll give you a head massage.”

Estelle leaned her head on Manley’s shoulder, his hand circling around her neck and gently massaging her head.

A new song started playing in the banquet hall. Some were dancing; some were drinking and chatting. The lively and extravagant lights projected on the floor-to-ceiling windows looked like a grand movie in progress.

A large screen separated the banquet hall from the garden, making the garden seem quiet and desolate.

The distant lights, combined with the stars and moonlight, fell onto the pool, causing faint ripples.

Inhaling Manley’s faint scent and looking into the distance, the starlight fell into her eyes and gradually disappeared into the darkness. She said in a low voice,

“Manley, I’m sorry.”

Sorry for making him leave.

Sorry for not falling in love with him in the end.

She could pay back all the debts she owed, except for his. She felt she could never repay him in this lifetime.

She could never give him what he wanted.

Manley stopped his movement, chuckled lightly, and said slowly, “Please don’t apologize. It makes me feel awkward.”

Estelle’s throat felt a bit choked up.
