Chapter 1202

Waters was feeling heartbroken and cold. Everyone said Charlie was a real ladies‘ man, but after getting to know him, she realized if he wasn’t into someone, he’d give them the cold shoulder without a second thought.

She had been chasing him for two years, and she started to wonder if maybe he didn’t care because she was too into him and too forward.

With a sorrowful expression, Waters slowly nodded, “You’re right; I’m just not worth his time!”

After saying this, she grabbed her bag and stormed off.

After Waters left, Tracy didn’t dare move. She carefully said, “Mr. James, I know I messed up. I’ve been working in this company for years; can’t you cut me some slack just this once?”

‘Just this once. If I catch you messing with Emily again, I’ll kick you out, and it won’t be pretty!” Charlie said, his voice low and icy as he looked through some reports.

Tracy nodded frantically, her voice shaky. “Yes, thank you, Mr. James!”

“Now get out and send Emily in!” Charlie commanded.

Tracy quickly complied, and as she left the boss’s office, she realized her palms were sweaty.

She walked up to Emily, her eyes filled with resentment. “Mr. James wants to see you in his office.”

With that, she turned and went back to her desk.

Emily had seen Waters leave looking heartbroken, and now Tracy didn’t look so good either. What on earth happened in the office?

Emily figured Charlie must’ve lost his temper. She’d seen it before.

With a nervous feeling, Emily knocked on the office door.

“Come in!” A voice from inside said, emotionless.

Emily walked in, approaching Charlie and saying, “Mr. James, you wanted to see me?”

Charlie looked up from his report, giving her a cold glance. “You don’t have to put up with anyone’s crap in the office. If someone’s bullying you, why don’t you fight back? Why don’t you speak up?”

Caught off–guard, Emily stared at Charlie’s piercing gaze. She calmly responded, “Since I arrived, Tracy’s behavior changed because she saw you had expectations of me. She’s probably worried I’ll steal her position. Her work performance is undeniable, and you don’t need to get worked up over this minor issue.”

Managing relationships with colleagues was part of her job.

If she can’t handle that, it just meant her experience and skills weren’t up to snuff yet. She can’t just go running to the boss for help because of her own inadequacies.

Charlie stared at her for a while before laughing coldly, “Well, aren’t you magnanimous?”

“I’m not a pushover either. If she asks me to do something within my job scope, I won’t mind. But if it’s beyond that, I’ll refuse!” Emily said it honestly.

Charlie’s eyes were as indifferent as ever, giving nothing away. He tapped the desk lightly and said, “Don’t let people walk all over you. Otherwise, they’ll think you’re an easy target. They won’t appreciate your tolerance; they’ll just push harder!”

Emily thought to herself, wasn’t that advice better suited for Charlie himself?

Of course, she wasn’t about to argue with him. She just quietly closed her mouth, nodded, and said, “Right, I got it.”

“Come here; there’s an issue with the report. Take a look!” Charlie said.

Emily walked around the large desk to his side and leaned over to see where he was pointing.

After she’d been looking for about a minute, Charlie turned his gaze to her and asked, “Have you found the problem yet?”

They were very close. The girl lowered her head slightly; a strand of hair brushed past her nose, and she quickly brushed it aside.

Charlie caught a hint of a milky scent, and his heart skipped a beat, making him feel tense.

Emily was focused on the report, her eyes scanning the pages. She quickly found the issue and blurted out, “There’s something off with their revenue ratio in April!”
