Charlie took a quiet, deep breath, focused his attention, and calmly said, “Not only that, but the changes in his fixed assets are also bizarre.”

Charlie was showing Emily the ropes, teaching her how to analyze the loopholes in the reports.

Emily was all ears, and thanks to Charlie’s guidance, many things that were unclear to her before suddenly made sense.

Not just this time; ever since she joined the company, Charlie had been teaching her a lot. Even during their lunch breaks, Charlie would patiently answer her questions.

Emily felt a little shaky inside. She sneaked a glance at Charlie’s handsome face, only to realize how close they were getting, making her feel a bit jittery. Charlie’s gaze swept over her slightly red earlobe, and he calmly asked, “Did you get all that?”

Emily nodded right away and said, “Got it!”

“Focus, some things I’ll only explain once!” Charlie looked at her seriously.

Emily felt like he had seen right through her. Her face turned beet red, but she managed to say calmly, “Once is enough, thank you, Mr. James!”

Charlie glanced at her lightly, his voice low. “Take a look at another report for me; let’s see how much you’ve improved.”

Emily didn’t dare to daydream anymore; she focused her mind and put all her effort into reviewing the report.

They reviewed and discussed together, undisturbed; time flew by until Tracy knocked on the door. That’s when Emily realized it was already past quitting

time.

After Tracy came in, she gave Emily a meaningful look and asked Charlie for permission to leave.

Charlie glanced at the clock, then told Emily, “You should go too; we’ll review the report tomorrow!”

Emily nodded, thanked Charlie once again, and left with Tracy.

As she was packing up in her own office, Tracy passed by her and suddenly asked, “Emily, did you know Mr. James before?”

A newbie that Charlie trusted so much, even personally tutoring, Tracy found this highly unusual!

Emily paused, turned to look at Tracy, and said, “I interned here before; it’s clearly stated in my resume!”

Tracy eyed her with a smirk on her face, then turned and left.

Emily packed up and left, glancing at the closed office door one last time, her gaze complicated.

When she was sitting on the subway, Emily was in a pretty good mood, probably because she learned a lot today, which made her feel fulfilled. She suddenly realized that working with Charlie wasn’t as bad as she imagined.

A week flew by quickly, and Estelle went to give Henson Lamont his scheduled Saturday class.

In the car of the Lamont family’s driver, Estelle suddenly realized she hadn’t heard from Jonathan Lamont for a week. He stopped texting her, and calling her, seeing her. It was as if he had vanished off

the face of the earth.

Their relationship was back to being icy cold.

During the break, Henson asked, “Did you have a fight with Jonathan again?”

Estelle kept her face expressionless, checking Henson’s homework while calmly asking, “Why would you say that?”

“Jonathan has been coming home late these past few days; I’ve only seen him twice, and he didn’t look so well.” Henson frowned.

He glanced at Estelle and said, “Jonathan may have a bit of a temper, but he’s a good guy; you shouldn’t always bully him.”

Estelle raised her eyebrows and asked, “Why do you think I’m the one bullying him?”

“Because he seems to be the one suffering more.” Henson said quietly.
