Chapter 1214

“Yeah,” Charlie gave a gentle smile, “You can give it a shot!”

Kya’s eyes were darting back and forth as if she was mulling something over.

When Emily turned to get something, she saw Charlie and Kya sitting together, chatting away in a warm, harmonious atmosphere. But her emotions were a bit all over the place.

If Charlie knew Kya was his kid, he would probably be over the moon about it. But that would mean she’d lose Kya.

So, she had to keep this secret buried deep within her, never to be spoken.

This was their first time having a meal together, Charlie and Kya didn’t catch onto Emily’s feelings, but Emily just couldn’t get a grip on herself

Lucky for her, Charlie was busy taking care of Kya during dinner and didn’t have time to pay her any mind.

Somehow, they managed to get through the meal without a hitch.

After dinner, Emily went back to her work and Charlie took Kya to play in his office.

At three in the afternoon, Emily received a fax for Charlie. She saw Kya asleep in Charlie’s arms, covered with his suit jacket.

“Kya!” Emily cried out reflexively.

“Shh!” Charlie made a quieting gesture, looking at her calmly, whispering, “Don’t wake her up, let her sleep.”

Emily felt a bit guilty. “She’s sleeping like this, Mr. James will be so tired. Let me carry her to the sofa outside”

“No need, don’t wake her up!” Charlie’s tone was quite decisive, “Just leave the stuff here, and you can go do your thing.”

“Alright.” Emily put the fax on the coffee table and left.

As she reached the door, she glanced back and saw Charlie lounging on the sofa, one hand holding the fax and the other holding Kya. Occasionally, he would look down at Kya, his eyes full of affection.

Charlie really liked Kya.

The affection was so obvious it couldn’t be hidden.

But this only made Emily feel worse. She swallowed the lump in her throat and walked out of the door.

It wasn’t until the evening that Kya woke up. Charlie held her and watched cartoons for a while. When Emily came in, he looked up and said, I’ve got a thing tonight, I’ll drop you and Kya off home first.”

Emily said, “No need, Mr. James, you go ahead. Kya and I can just take a cab home.”

1 call the shots here, stop contradicting me!” Charlie gave her a glare, but perhaps because Kya was present, his tone wasn’t as cold.

Emily didn’t say anything more, packed up her stuff, and went home with Kya.

On the way home, Charlie and Kya were chatting away, while Emily just stared out of the window at the passersby in the sunset. They were all families going out, smiling, either cycling or walking, and all their faces beaming with happiness.

She suddenly thought, if Charlie were an ordinary man, would they be a family too?

This thought scared Emily herself and she quickly retracted her attention, driving this inappropriate thought out of her mind.

When the car reached Sunset Ridge, Emily grabbed her bag and bade Charlie goodbye.

Charlie smiled and asked Kya, “Did you have fun today?”

1 had so much fun!” Kya replied cheerfully

“Would you like to come to where mommy works and play with me every Saturday?”

Charlie’s words made Emily turn pale, and she quickly said, “You’ve had enough trouble today. If I have to work overtime in the future, I can ask Ms. Simmons to come and take care of Kya.”
