Chapter 1325

“Oh!” Emily knew that the James family’s employees all had marriage benefits, so it must have been Elliott’s boss who had come, hence why he needed to report it.

“Can I get an invite too?” Charlie asked with a smirk on his thin lips.

Emily politely chuckled. “It’s just a small wedding: I wouldn’t want to bother you.”

Charlie cast a gloomy glance at Emily, then turned his head away, his arm resting on the car window, his hand clenching as if trying hard to hold back his anger.

He kept his eyes closed for a moment.

Emily did the same, continuing to enjoy the view outside the car window.

The ride was silent. Upon reaching Sunset Ridge, Kent grabbed an umbrella to go pick up Charlie, who emotionlessly said, “Give it to me!”

Then he grabbed Emily, who was about to get out of the car, and whispered, “Wait a sec, don’t move!”

Emily looked at him in shock.

Charlie took the umbrella and got out of the car, walked to the other side, opened the door, and held the umbrella in front of the door, telling Emily, “Come on out!”

Emily looked up to see a drizzling rain. Charlie was holding the umbrella with his handsome face hidden under the gloomy sky, causing her heart to tremble inexplicably.

Charlie moved the umbrella closer to Emily, half of his body getting wet in the rain outside. Emily didn’t dare to dawdle, quickly getting out of the car and grabbing the umbrella handle to push it toward him.

Charlie wrapped his arm around Emily’s shoulder and quickly walked toward the stairs

His hand was long and strong, tightly gripping the black umbrella handle, the entire umbrella tilted towards Emily

Raindrops fell on the umbrella, making a pitter-patter sound.

Emily’s heart was pounding like a drum, even louder than the rain.

Apart from Charlie’s clear and cold aura, everything else seemed to be isolated by the umbrella.

It wasn’t until they entered the building that Charlie let go of Emily and walked inside with the umbrella.

Emily saw that he didn’t seem to want to leave, so she didn’t dare to ask or speak, simply following him obediently. When they entered the apartment, Ms. Simmons greeted them, happily saying “Mr. James, how come you’re here?”

Emily explained, “It started raining, so Mr. James gave me a ride.”

Charlie glanced at her, his face becoming even colder.

Kya heard the sound and came running out of the living room, excitedly shouting. “Uncle Charlie!”

Charlie finally smiled.

He took off his rain-soaked suit jacket and picked up Kya, asking, “Are you bored staying at home?”

He walked inside with Kya and turned back to Ms. Simmons, saying, “The rain is heavy, let me give you a ride home, Kent is waiting downstairs.”

Ms. Simmons didn’t stand on ceremony this time either, thanking him profusely. She winked at Emily and then grabbed her bag to go home.

Emily understood what Ms. Simmons meant and felt like she was getting more and more tongue-tied. She closed the door with a sense of helplessness. Charlie sat on the sofa with Kya, took out his phone, and called Jonathan, “Come down!”

At that moment, Emily really felt as if she had returned to two years ago, when they all used to live in the Royal Mansion.

Emily poured a glass of water for Charlie and hung his coat on the balcony.

Charlie watched her busy figure and suddenly felt a lot better.

Soon, Jonathan and Estelle arrived. They walked inside, and Jonathan joked, “You could’ve just come, why did you have to call and disturb us?” Charlie glanced at him and smiled. “Who said I didn’t come to see you? Can’t I just miss you?”

“Do you think I would believe that?” Jonathan quirked an eyebrow

Emily hung up the coat and walked over, greeting with a smile, “Hello, Jonah!”

Charlie glanced at her with a smile and said, “You remember to call Jonah, but you’ve forgotten about me!”

Emily felt a tad awkward, realizing that Charlie was making fun of her for calling him Mr. James on the street. Jonathan and Estelle exchanged glances, jokingly saying, “Charlie, when did you become such a nitpicker, so petty?”

Charlie chuckled coldly. “If I were a nitpicker, Emily would have been in heaps of trouble by now!”

Estelle continued, “Charlie, you’re always so tolerant, we’re counting on you to take good care of Emily”
