Chapter 223

After connecting, a smiling voice came from Charlie, “Are you back in J City yet? I’m hurt, come check on me quick!”

Jonathan thought he was joking and said calmly, “Did you hurt your kidney or your heart?”

Charlie laughed, “For real, come quickly!”

Jonathan asked, “Where are you?”

Charlie replied, “Downstairs of your building!”

Jonathan paused, squinting his eyes.

Estelle was about to call Emily to ask if she was home, but Jonathan came over, ‘Don’t bother, let’s go downstairs together.”

“Huh?” Estelle was puzzled.

Jonathan didn’t explain and took her hand to go downstairs.

They walked down one floor without taking the elevator.

When Emily opened the door, she was startled to see Estelle and then even more surprised to see Jonathan, “How did you guys get here?”

Estelle looked at Jonathan, who asked calmly, “Where’s Charlie?”

Estelle and Emily both widened their eyes.

Today, Charlie was much better, at least not feeling dizzy or nauseous, and was able to go to the bathroom by himself. He was lying on the balcony sofa playing a mobile game when he heard noises and looked up, “I’m here!”

As they walked in, Estelle whispered to Emily, “What’s going on?”

Emily asked, “Did you know this is Charlie’s house?”

Estelle nodded, “Yeah!”

Emily bit her lip, “Why didn’t you say something earlier?”

Estelle replied, “Do you know Charlie?”

Emily’s expression was indescribable.

As they reached the balcony, Jonathan saw the gauze on Charlie’s forehead and asked frowning, “You really got hurt?”

Charlie pointed at Emily and said, “Ask her!”

Estelle and Jonathan both looked at Emily, who blushed and stammered, “I–I didn’t mean it!”

Charlie smiled, “It’s fine, Estelle’s here, you go chat with her, and I’ll have some man–to–man talk with Jonathan.”

Emily immediately dragged Estelle back to her bedroom.

Once they were inside the room, Emily shared the details with Estelle, her voice tinged with guilt. “I had no idea that Charlie was Mr. Lamont’s friend, let alone that this was his house. So that night, I mistook him for a thief…”

Estelle chuckled, finding the situation amusing. “It’s just a coincidence that Charlie happened to be here. Don’t blame yourself for it!”

Emily let out a sigh. “Mr. Dulle didn’t really hold it against me either. In fact, he even covered the medical expenses himself. I decided to take a few days off work to take care of him as a way to make it up to him.”

Estelle asked, “Did you know Charlie before?”

Emily shrugged, “I’m not sure if that counts as knowing.”

Then, she told Estelle the story of Noreen and Charlie, “Noreen still thinks about how to get Charlie back every day, but it seems like Charlie already has a girlfriend.”

Estelle didn’t expect such a story, with Charlie having romantic entanglements with Emily’s cousin, and Emily accidentally moving into his house.

Outside the room, Jonathan learned the general situation and leaned against the sofa, speaking lazily, “Since it’s a misunderstanding, just go home instead of making a young girl take care of you.”

Charlie was also a bit helpless, “You don’t know my mom’s temper. If I recover at home, she’ll drive me crazy. So I’m just taking the opportunity to hide for a few days.”

Jonathan glanced at him and said, “Then hire a male nurse!”

Charlie let out a light chuckle, “Having a man around constantly might just give me a heart attack! Initially, I was a tad annoyed and wanted to playfully tease her, but then I discovered that she’s actually quite skilled in the kitchen!”

Jonathan maintained a composed expression and spoke with sincerity, “I may not be concerned about other women, but Emily is Estelle’s friend. Please refrain from causing her any farm, as I wouldn’t be

able to face Estelle if you do.”
