Charlie nodded Alright!”

Dr. Martin cord “She would be soon out of fever, and she might sweat a lot. Mr. James, you can prepare a warm towel to help wipe her

“Got it!”

Before leaving Dr. Martin reminded Charlie about how to take the medicine and remove the IV needle, and Charlie kept all of it in mind.

The room was quiet again. Charlie sat by the bed, covering Emily with a blanket. She was sleeping deeply, her long eyelashes casting a calm shadow on her face

So quiet, it was almost unnerving

Charlie waited for the IV drip to finish, then sat on the nearby sofa to rest his eyes.

He felt like he had just closed his eyes when he heard some movement on the bed. He slowly opened his eyes, and there was a moment of grogginess, which then turned into surprise.

Emily’s fever started to subside after getting the IV, and she was sweating heavily. She was cozily tucked in by Charlie and must have been uncomfortable, so she squirmed a bit and then just lifted her hand and removed the blanket.

She wasn’t wearing anything and was not fully conscious. With her eyes closed, she groaned in discomfort.

Charlie took a deep breath, stood up, and held her shoulder, fearing her movements might dislodge the needle in her left arm. A layer of sweat on the girls delicate skin shimmered in the dim light of the room.

Charlie only took a glance and then quickly looked away towards the IV. The scene was unavoidably making him feel a bit restless.

Honestly, he never had any inappropriate thoughts about Emily, but he was a man, after all!

He calmed down a bit, remembering Dr. Martin’s instructions, and covered Emily again with the blanket. Then he went to the bathroom to fetch a warm towel.

By the time he returned, Emily had thrown off the blanket again.

Charlie:

He covered her again, and with the towel, reached under the blanket to help her wipe off the sweat. However, his hand could potentially touch just about anywhere.

Charlie hesitated, wondering if he should call Estelle to come downstairs and take care of Emily.

He checked the time – it was already 2:30 in the morning. Calling Estelle at this time would probably earn him a cold response from Jonathan. Forget it. He had already seen what he shouldn’t have seen, so there was no point in pretending. He just went ahead and wiped Emily’s body thoroughly.

Suddenly, Emily rolled over and tightly hugged his arm, her eyes closed, calling out for “mommy.” Her hot skin touching his arm, she leaned her whole body towards him.

“Mommy, I’m cold, I want to go home!”

“Daddy, I don’t want presents anymore. Please, come back home!”

“Mom, I don’t have a home anymore. It’s gone…”

Her murmurs continued, tears streaming down her face, rolling along her pale cheeks and onto Charlie’s arm, making his heart tremble. Charlie’s gaze deepened, staring at her tearful eyes. He lifted his hand to wipe the tears from her face, but they just kept coming.

He knew he wasn’t a good person, having seen so many women cry and never feeling any pity.

This time, however, a woman wasn’t crying for him, yet his heart felt as if it was being squeezed by an invisible hand.
