Amiee felt a whirlwind of emotions, retreating silently until her back hit the wall. She then calmly said, “I’ve told you, I’m not into this idea of a business alliance. I want to many someone who loves me.”
“Don’t I love you enough?” Josiah stared straight at her, “I know you’re busy, picky about food and I always worry you’re not eating well, so I cook for you every night. Do you think I’m just killing time? If caring about you doesn’t count as love, then what does? Anything Hushhush can do, I can do too! Just say the word.”
Amiee looked at him in surprise. Was he confessing his feelings?
Josiah flashed a bitter smile, “I gotta tell you, even though our relationship was supposed to be fake, I fell for you for real! I can’t stand seeing you with Hushhush, can’t stand a day without seeing you.”
His eyes were red, almost filled with tears, “I’ve never kissed anyone before, you were my first. That night, was my first! Maybe you don’t like me now, but can we just give it a try?”
Amiee asked, “How do we try?”
With his arm against the wall, Josiah moved closer and suggested, “We try being together like a couple, and you try liking me.
Amiee lowered her head, seemingly pondering his words.
Seeing her hesitation, Josiah nervously suggested, “We can start with a three–month trial!”
Amiee couldn’t help but laugh, pushing his arm away, “What, do you think this is an internship?”
Josiah instantly responded, “Then you tell me, how long?”
Amiee looked straight at him, “What do you even like about me? I’m pretty boring!”
She was well aware of her own personality, no man would like a girl as cold as her.
“I don’t know why I like you, if I do, I wouldn’t be in such a mess! Josiah retorted a bit irritatedly
Amiee pondered for a moment, then turned and walked towards the living room.
“Amieel” Josiah called out in a hurry.
Without looking back, Amiee simply said, Tm hungry, I want scrambled eggs and pasta.”
Josiah was momentarily stunned, but then a smile spread across his face, his eyes sparkling, “Alright, I’ll get right on it!”
With that, he headed to the kitchen, rolling up his sleeves as he went.
Amiee watched his retreating figure, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
Half an hour later, after taking a shower, Amiee came out to find Josiah carrying the food towards the dining room. With his apron on, holding the dish, and a big grin on his face, he looked just like a pretty girl, if not for his slightly rough buzz cut.
Amiee lingered on him for a few seconds before sitting down and starting to eat.
Josiah sat opposite her, all his previous resentment and imitation gone just watching her with a smile on his face.
Amiee was picky about food, but she had to admit, Josiah’s cooking was right up her alley. After a bite, she noticed he was still staring at her, and asked casually, “What are you looking at?”
Tm just happy.”
Feeling a bit shy, Amiee didn’t say anything else and just continued eating quietly
Josiah watched her the whole time, feeling extremely satisfied when she finished the pasta he cooked.
After she finished eating, Josiah took the initiative to clean up the dishes.
When he came back, Amiee was sitting on the sofa playing games.
Josiah sat down next to her, took her phone and put it aside, then leaned in to kiss her.
Instinctively, Amiee moved back, “What are you doing?”
Looking into Amiee’s eyes, Josiah blurted out, “I want to kiss you!”
His tone was like a child asking for candy, with a hint of pleading and stubbornness
Amiee scowled. “Sit down!”
